i just read this on a eastern washingtons 501st members myspace
"Though it's important to let people know that as of this month, Lucasfilm has asked that the 501st does not renact lightsaber duels."
has anyone else heard about this?..........old tony kenobi

Steve Sansweet sent an email, from Lucas Film, to Ablin Johnson (and the rebel legion as well) stating that we are no longer
allowed to perform Lightsaber Duels.

A Lightsaber Twirl at an official 501st event? Yes

In Short, the official Reason:

The 501st, and The Rebel Legion, are an official organization that has limited use
of a copyrighted product, image and such. Our use only continues as long
as LFL grants us the say so. They could, at one swoop, destroy everything
we have, to include events, websites, products, ect ect. LFL has made
the decision based upon that at an official 501st event we are a representation
of LFL themselves. In which case if anything ever were to happen, such as an
injury, during a lightsaber duel LFL would be liable.

Even shorter, because they said so. End of story.

seems odd though. Wonder what the motivation behind that move was? Risk of injury... our inability to "yoda flip" all over the buildings, thus un-cannon?

In the base temple thread, there i a big discussion about this... I was already aware, but I was under the impression that we couldnt duel kids... Duels (staged of course) between members should be fine... Right?

No organized light saber duels whatso ever.
Nothing between members.
Nothing between  non-members.
Nothing between members and non-members.
No bashing of lightsabers at events what so ever.

This will be EXTREMELY hard to police.  Everyone in the world who isn't affiliated with any Lucasfilm type group(501st, RL, OFF etc) is considered "non-member".  How can anyone stop that?

I conquer - That is pretty foolish to think that all saber duels will stop just because Lucas says so. That's non-sense - non-members are not going to give a darn that's for sure...
