Star Tours 2.0 for you Disney fans
« on: September 22, 2010, 05:39:28 PM »
A friend of mine in the Golden Gate Garrison that works for Disney and there rides has this to report on ST 2.0

Ok, while I was down working on the WOC Premiere we had the opportunity to hold a number of press conferences and of course "Star Tours: The Adventure Continues" was covered. I can report the following to you now:

The new journeys will be drawn from a time period set just before the original film trilogy, drawing on characters and settings from both sets of Star Wars films. To the previously announced Tatooine trip, Coruscant had been officially added. There was also a promise of new technologies for the attraction, specifically digital 3D projection. The final trips to Endor at Disneyland will be on July 26, 2010 and September 7, 2010 at WDW

This can now be made public so I am sharing it with everyone now. Hope you enjoy, and plan on seeing new "sneak peaks" posted a few each month until opening. The simulators are now undergoing intial programming, the entire layouts plusses and cues changed at both DLP and WDW. Enjoy and I'll keep you updated as the work progresses:
BTW you'll get a sneak peak also of the re-designed shuttle and color sceem.

Thats pretty cool.  I'm guessing that will be the video as you wait in line.  Then oops the stupid pilot gets lost and mayhem ensues.

A long time ago (around '86) in a galaxy far far away (Los Angeles), I worked at Disneyland as a cook. I actually was picked in a lottery to test Star Tours when it was being developed. We would show up and ride it without sound, then no video or audio - just motion, then motion and sound but no vid; you get the idea. By the time it was open to the public, I had experienced it in one form or another easily 25 times.

The thing i remember liking the most was how the line to get in was all steel ramps and studs and posts, so you could see the path, but all the cool machines, robots, and bits didn't go in until the very end. Being 'backstage' brought a whole different perspective.

Best seat? - back corners.

totally agree about the best seats....I had annual passes for 7 years, I would make kamakazi trips (1 day trips to open the park til it closed at midnight-6 hr drive each way) down with Natasha 8-10 times a year where we would have to skip the ride because she was too small to ride.  She wanted to ride it so bad that her Aunt rode it with a video cam and gave her the disk so she could plan on the dvd in the car ride home.
