Cutting the cod and trimming ab

I have to cut the cod to trim it down some because the ab piece is too long, but I don't think I'll get enough reduction (and I'm a little freaked out about doing it).  Is it okay to trim some from the top of the ab too?

I've heard of people that have cut the ab in half, behind the belt, and shorten it.  Is that the technique you are referring to?

Yep.  Once I cut the cod though I kind of answered my own question.
