In serious need of help
« on: June 29, 2015, 01:31:01 PM »
Hey guys.

UPS really has it out for me. I got my BBB today and it looked like this:

My cap is totally warped, so bad that I will probably have to get a new one

Also, chest plate is warped, looks like the right upper chest got some love during transit

Bittersweet, to say the least. Seems like every time I've ordered something it's come in pieces or totally screwed up - frustrating, to say the least.

Anyways, waiting to hear back from Mark, UPS is probably not going to do anything about it so I'm hoping he's feeling generous. Any pointers or advice would be appreciated, maybe a little encouragement too - this has been a pretty demoralizing road so far. Also, if any of you guys want to get together this week/weekend Id love to meet up, some TK company would make me feel a lot better.

Thanks guys,  much love.

James

I'll be in San Diego for 4th of July weekend, but I'd be down for a soirée next weekend. I need to go part shopping.

Ouch, that poor BBB has taken some serious hits from the Death Star there it looks like..

Hopefully your armor vendor is cool with sending you some non-"battle" damaged armor. If he's unable to send you replacement pieces, you might be able to grab a heat gun and be super careful about reshaping the front of your helmet. Not sure about the chest piece, but I'm sure some of the other TK's here or over at FISD can chime in that have more experience than I do about potential fixes/modifications to help it look a little less warped.

While you wait, look into getting your other pieces are trimmed and ready! Lots of trimming, cutting and sanding to do to help keep your mind off sending Fett after the local UPS guy!

Yeah there's TONS of stuff to do and most of the other parts look okay... it's just really frustrating that 2 of the really important pieces arrived like this. Mark had a good point, I assembled the bucket and it looks like that bump will work itself out (almost adds a bit of character too) but it's still kind of infuriating. UPS wasn't very sympathetic. Mark is being pretty cool about it - I think that i will at least get a new chest but idk, we'll have to see.

Assembled the bucket and everything looks ok. The ears (as expected) will need some trimming but the dent/warp worked itself out as soon as I put on the brow trim. This is going to be one heck of a learning curve for me. Also, does anyone know if a dent on the right side of the bucket above the brow is screen accurate? I kind of like it after scrutinizing everything but I'm wondering if it's another UPS battle scar.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the support. I was having a pretty terrible day but you guys are definitely helping :-)

I am not familiar with the armor your purchased, I am assuming HIPS or ABS plastic?  I have a chest mold that we could probably heat up your bent chest piece and vac form back into place. My mold should be similar enough to get it back in shape.....maybe?  hard to know without seeing it live. A heat gun will let you shape it however your want, but be very careful, it will go from firm plastic to very soft, VERY fast.  Again, not familiar with your product, but bondo and paint are lifesavers also.

You know what's crazy guys? The bucket looks amazing put together. The bump almost gives it a move along/Gino look and I really love the character that it adds:

The asymmetry is so endearing that I'd hate to try and get the bump out and lose the inquisitive, curious look it produces. I'm really starting to appreciate all of he little intricacies that make each set of armor unique, I'll be able to pick this bucket out of a whole battalion, no problem.

Now, the ears look kind of wonky. I am going to try and sand them down to make them fit but having researched the infamous ear gap for quite some time I can say the ears are either mounted incorrectly, need sanding, or have been over-trimmed.

Right ear front:

Right ear back:

I think the right ear needs the most work. You can see in this photo that you can see light all the way through so this either has to be sanded, redrilled, remounted or completely replaced:

Left front:

Left back:

And a nice head on shot of my unique looking friend:

Thoughts? Comments?

Love you guys :-)
