Looking For a New Civil Deputy
« on: January 22, 2009, 11:35:46 PM »
Just an FYI for anyone who might be fed up with their current job or just in need of one.  My office will be accepting application soon for a new full time Civil Deputy.  Pay is right about $20 an hour topping out at about $24, but its a great foot in the door if you looking to get into Law Enforcement.  Basically Civil Deputy are an uncertified position and serve court documents, but they're in uniform with a gun driving a police car.  The best part is you get to play with me almost everyday .  I am the only certified guy working in the Civil office, I get all the paper where the defendant has a warrant and I do the evictions.  The civil guys cover me on most of my stuff.

Its really a great group of guys that we have right now.  If you are interested feel free to contact me and you can check here for when the position official opens.  http://www.co.washington.or.us/cgi/home/washco.pl  There is also a link to the Sheriff's webpage here.

For those who were interested the hiring was supposed to start advertising this last weekend, but apparently HR dropped the ball.  The should be posting the opening anytime.  Sadly the link was dead on the county site today.  You can look these 2 spots.  There is a phone # on one to call and they'll mail you the application.

OK I got some bad news today for all those that are interested in this position.  Until today my boss and I were both told that this position would be open to the public, but today we were told different.  For the first time in the 10 years I have worked for Washington County our patrol and corrections are nearly fully staffed.  We currently have an over abundance of well qualified people who have applied for those positions.  So the commanders decided to 1st make an attempt to hire a new civil deputy from that group.  The reason being is that they already have background checks done, interviews done, and testings done.  So fiscally it makes sense.

Now with that said it doesn't mean that the position still won't be made public soon.  They will not let civil pull from people at the top of the portion of the list those are reserved for the few current openings and the projected openings in patrol and corrections.  My boss is actually not very hopeful about finding someone off the current applicant list.  Honestly I believe that a lot of people would consider the civil job a let down from what they hoped to have.  That and I really don't understand why, but there is a stigma with the patrol guys about civil like its beneath them or something.  I believe its all BS, but its kind of like the cop to security guard thing I guess.

Anyway the hope is to have someone hired by mid April.  Those that were interested I would still encourage you to maybe apply in patrol or corrections at my office which is still open right now.  I will let you all know if it does become open to the public.  If any of you do still want a ride along to see if you really would be interested I can still arrange that.

Sorry for wasting anyone's time at this point.  I feel like an jerk for putting it out there and then pulling it away.
