Star Wars experience-Disney question
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:05:21 PM »
With the recent closing of the Star Trek Experience, and having never seen it, I am bound and determined
to see the SW one at Disney World. My question is: Is the attraction open all year round, or is it just a
starwars weekend only thing??? Also is it at Disney Land as Well?

You do realize that it took you longer to type your post than to look up a phone number to someone that might actually know something about this

Disney World  407-828-3453  ( google search......less than 20 seconds)

Of course, it has since 1996, but the last time I wasat Disney Land the Star Tours ride was open - yes it is an all year round thing. It is very similar to what the Star Trek Experience was, although not as elaborate.

Think of the Omsi exhibit, but scaled down to the smallest of their exhibition rooms, that was the main eye candy for the crowd (that was indoors). Mind you when I was there, the line was like a 75 minute wait on the average. As you wrap around this main room that has all kinds of animatronic - like I said, it is a bunch of eye-candy. If memory serves, there is a bit of banter between R2 and C-3P0.

The line eventually wanders up and around this visual stimulus and ends up on the second floor, where you dip out in what appears to be very much like an airport terminal. There are multiple doors to enter into the ride. The first time I was there, one overhead reader said Endor, another said Dagobaugh and so forth. So, I actually convinced my family to go through the ride twice, not realizing that the ride was the same, it was the overhead signs saying something different to add to the experience of going through a spaceport.

You get in the ride vehicle, strap in and the experience plays out like an interactive ride, which is what it is. The vehicle moved up, down, left, right, side-to-side to match the visual presentation on the "view screen".

But, like I said, this is based on my experiences from 1993 (when the ride was brand new) and 1996, when I revisited DisneyLand.

But in general, what Greedo said was true. To see if it is still an active ride, a google search probably would have brought faster results. As far as individual experiences... well, I hadn't had much of an opportunity to share that about this ride. So, thanks for bringing up this thread.

Star Tours is DEFINITELY open!  I went there(Walt Disney World) last Sept.  It was open.  The Endor forest and the At-At were "Under Construction" at the time but it was all clear a week after I was there.  :x  It is still the same ride I remember back when I was in middle school about 20 years ago.

Wow!  I'm  not even sure where to start.

I grew up in Southern California, and I had plenty of opportunities to visit Disneyland with family and friends.

There was a goofy ride that I always enjoyed called "Journey Through Inner Space" or something like that.  It was one of the classic, slow car rides through strange scenery. There was one bit that took you under a microscope and you could look up to see a giant eye peering down at you.

I was bummed when I heard this attraction was going to be closed.  Then, I found out that it was going to be replaced with Star Tours!

Since I'm a sensitive Jedi type, I have no problems telling everyone that I sobbed like a kid with skinned knees the first time I rode Star Tours!

Star Tours set the model for attractions like the Indiana Jones ride that incorporate a kind of visual show while you are in line.  I always enjoyed the kind of "you're getting ready to go into space" vibe of Space Mountain.  Star Tours blew that out of the water. I don't want to give everything away, but you are basically walking through a spaceport on your way to get on your tour.  It's full of robots and fun things to check out. It doesn't hurt that the ride dumps you into the gift shop where you can often find exclusive Disney-related Star Wars collectibles.

Star Tours has been the highlight of my trips to Disneyland ever since. I have a picture from about 1995 somewhere of me wearing a Shadows of the Empire shirt standing next to a Wookie.

The last time I had a chance to go was in the summer of 2000 a few days before my wedding.  I'm just waiting until my boy is a bit older to head back.

It is probably important to keep in mind that the ride is now about twenty years old.  Somehow, we all seem to spend some time thinking about a thirty year old movie, so maybe that doesn't matter. If you can tap into the part of you that loves Star Wars, then you will love it.

The Force is strong with Star Tours!

The star tours in Disney Calif. is still open. although there is rumors on the Disney site that an updated movie is being done for it. Watch at the end it looks like George L. in the controle tower. The one at Disney world has a cooler out side with the AT AT and forest but it is still fun. Don't forget to catch the Jedi training Academy if you have a chance while you are there. My son got lucky enough to be in it 3 time in 5 days, the kids all get a kick out of that and there actors are fun and have the best lame jokes.
