I don't know if anybody has thought of this, but how about a clone wars midnight release Dornbechers advertisement?
While everybody is trooping the Midnight Release, these are the cream of the crop starwars fans, why not pass out
flyers to the Dornbechers Light the sabers event? Or while we are at the Midnight troop sell raffle tickets, all proceeds
go into lighting the Saber, and those tickets all go into the same pile that are sold at the Light The Saber Event?
Good idea. Huh Huh? Your thoughts. If the raffle idea is a go we need to get a list of the prizes to encourage people
to buy tickets at the midnight event.
Oh and I will donate one of those Hasbro Voice Changer Helmets to the Raffle.

Cooter -

Since the "Light Vader's Saber" event is Robin's baby, it would be best to ask her permission to do something like that. While, I think, it is a pretty awesome idea. This IS her event and it is not good to step all over the toes of the individual putting on the event - in this case, her. Feel free to discuss it with her.

Everybody, let's remember that if you have ideas for events, current ones in the planning or something in the future, get together with those who actually do the planning of those events. There are annual trooping events where the same organizers work hard, year after year, to put it together.

I'm not saying you can't offer assistance, I am sure assistance is always appreciated. But check in with those event organizers to see if that is something that they want for their event before proceeding to follow through with whatever idea you have come up with. It saves a lot of headache and hassle in the long run.

Thank you.

Seems to me Tony has a good idea and he brought it to the boards.  Instead of shooting him down with the thought of him stepping on toes (which he clearly hasn't done) why don't we get behind the idea and present it to Robin?

Here Tony, let me do this for you:

That is a great idea Tony.  Robin would be the best contact to see if she is cool with the idea.  I am sure she will be. This is the exact kind of excitement and action that is needed to get the word out about what we do and when we do it.  This has been something that has lacked in the past.  A preemptive strike of advertisements would serve us well and would be generating the kind of buzz and support that we need to turn Light Vader's Saber into and ever growing event.  I think we should get on this now so we can get them printed and ready to hand out at the Midnight Release.  Thanks for the idea, Tony.

That is how I would put it.  Personally, I think it is a great idea and I wish more people would step up with ideas.  Anytime you feel a good one coming on you should feel welcome to say something and get support behind it.  I wish more people would step up, and I wish that things were rerouted when good suggests are present.

I wasn't shooting Tony down and I was directing him to speak to Robin about this very idea. As it stands, I also said it was a great idea. Squabbling over the verbage used is a bit silly. You said the same thing I did, only differently. I was making a point.

Seeing as how I work with Robin on a daily basis, I have a better understanding of her than most. And while, the help is appreciated, I know she doesn't like having her toes stepped on. I am speaking from experience here.

Bottom line is that anyone who has an idea is freely encouraged to do so. I think it is important to remember that for events that have the same facilitator every year, it would be best to contact them about the idea. That way there IS no toe-stepping. That is all I was saying.

But if it will satisfy you better, here you go:

Hey Tony, thanks for the suggestion. I think it is a great idea. Run it by Robin and see what she thinks. I'm sure she appreciates the thought that you put into the idea. It's a great suggestion, thanks!

Just got off the phone with Robin. She thinks the Flyers are a fantastic idea. I didn't present the Raffle idea as I think the huge troop that greedo has in mind might be a bit of a hassel to carry around the "blah blah." Anyway....Anybody have a suggestion as to how many flyers we should have printed off? If its a huge amount, ie to share with the portland troop, anybody willing to contribute a few dollars to
off set the cost? If not we can keep it at the Vancouver Troop, but the more passed out the better.

Just got off the phone with Kinkos.
500 B&W Copies is almost 40.00
1000 is almost 80.00

Anybody have any suggestions that might help finance,or have an alternate all togther, to get this
done?

How big of a flyer were you going to have printed? They don't need to be pretty, I would think that you sized the flyer so that two flyers fit on a page, you could get more for your buck. Or print out a flyer yourself and just make copies of it. I don't know what questions you asked, but that could be a start right there.

But think of it this way, how many seats does a screening room hold and how many screens is the movie going to be shown on. That would give you a fair assessment of how many copies to get.

If you want them passed out at all events, you could send the PDF or whatever it is to the troop leader and get them copied in smaller amounts. I'd be willing to pitch in for some Portland fliers. I can print off some myself if we're short on funds. I've got a massive printer designed for this kind of stuff. It might be easier to divide it up between the troops so you don't have to distribute 500 or limit them to just one location. Just an idea!

Like I said, try to size it down so that there are two flyers per standard page. Then make your appropriate number of copies. However many you wish to make.

Steph, the flyer is on the public announcements section, first post. It is there for anyone to download and print off at their leisure. This is a great way to share the cost.
