Uncle Owen? Aunt Beru? (From Portland)
« on: January 16, 2021, 07:32:45 PM »
Hey, everyone! Call me Sentinel. I've been on here since the days when I founded a Star Wars Club at Lincoln High School, and you guys were kind enough to come over.

I will be modifying several parts of a Luke Skywalker outfit from Return of the Jedi / The Mandalorian, and planning a Din Djarin outfit from The Mandalorian as well.

Speaking of Din, I understand that he is apparently part of the 501st's characters. That seems slightly illogical to me, considering that he left the Bounty Hunters' Guild 13 episodes ago... But his outfit is armored, and they specialize in armor, so I guess that that makes sense.

And regarding Luke, I have rough versions of everything but the upper vest, which he only wears while on Jabba's sail barge. Modifications will be made.

Thanks for having me... I hope that my materials are up to your standards.

Welcome! I believe that the Din Beskar armor is not included in the 501st approved costumes because we are the "bad guys" from what I have read. I know the Pre-Beskar Din has a CRL and is accepted because he was actively working for the guild at that point. That being said, there are other characters that are approved in the 501st that are not "bad guys", like the Canto Bight Police Officers (who just jailed the rebels for a parking violation, not because they were rebels).... So I have no idea really.

Welcome the boards, Sentinel!

Believe me, there was/are many  'discussions' on that particular costume being in the 501st, along with many other costumes

Awesome... I'm just glad that all the information's there. And I just ordered some 3D files, which I will probably be modifying, to use as a basis for my armor print.

According to the Bounty Hunters Guild DL, there will not be a CRL for any season 2 version of Din, since he is not a bounty hunter in S2.

Welcome to the boards! I've been working on a Beskar Din for a bit, so feel free to ask any questions. If you want to go the Season 2 route, I believe the Rebel Legion is accepting that version so you can attend any of our events if that's the armor that really speaks to you as well. Which armor files did you go with?

I went with Galactic Armory's version, which seemed slightly off in terms of the hand plates, I think. (The 501st said that the triangular greebly on top of the hand plates was supposed to protrude a bit, and I'm worried that I might have to edit the file.)

And yeah... I'm also working on a Luke Skywalker from Episode VI and The Mandalorian, and am honestly unsure if his cloak is supposed to be black in the latter time period or if it's just the darkness of that Star Destroyer messing with my vision.

Which armor files would you recommend, Lidocaine? And how would you acquire the other materials?

Personally, I really like the files that Great Ape Studios put out. Darren put a ton of time and effort into getting them really close to the actual props, and it shows. He's taken feedback from the community as well and made some tweaks along the way too. His etsy shop is here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/GreatApeStudioArt?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=773669193
He does have some of the files separate from the bundle if you're after just the hand guards for example.

Cloak is a dark grey boiled wool. The lighting in the show varies a ton from episode to episode but I believe the crl has it as a dark grey for both S1V1 and Beskar. Boiled wool can be expensive to source, so something that looks similar is allowed.

For the rest, here's some recommendations, the typical "Luke isn't at fault for anything" disclaimer applies here too. ;)

Boots: Crow Props (https://crowprops.bigcartel.com/) makes a pretty close reproduction of the boots, or you can find the Sketchers and cover them in leather like the show did for the super accurate look.

Gloves: Endor Finders (https://www.endorfinders.com/) has done gloves for a bunch of Legion costumes and come with velcro ready to go.

Leather Parts: One of the most expensive aspects to this costume I think. There's a few places making these, Sines Industries (https://www.etsy.com/shop/SinesIndustries?ref=nla_listing_details) has made 100s of them now, and includes a lot of the metal parts in their builds as well. When they have open slots for their runs they'll have them on their shop. Usually 1-2 months I believe.

Flight Suit, Vest, Cumberbund, etc: Lots of makers on the market now. Some folks get the CosplaySky suit from China and take off the cheap vinyl armor and dye it to the correct color. For something a little nicer, Leather Fashion Valley (https://www.leatherfashionvalley.com/star-wars/the-mandalorian-beskar-v2-flight-suit), Magnoli Clothiers https://www.magnoliclothiers.com/mando-outfit-other-garments-p-964.html and The Darkside Closet (https://www.facebook.com/TheDarkSideCloset) are all pretty good options.
There are patterns out there for sale as well if you want to save a bunch of cash and have someone sew it for you.

Optional Items:
Pistol: Lots of people 3d printing or using the Rubies toy blaster. A full aluminum one is SUPER nice if you want to spend that stimulus money ASAP. :)

Rifle: Only option is 3d printed right now. We might get someone making a resin/metal one eventually but hard to say.

Knife: Can be 3d printed, but having a rubber one that's con safe would be nice. JSC Props makes one: (https://jscprops.com/collections/mandalorian/products/din-djarins-vibroblade-kit-v2?variant=36466240159910). He also makes a nice MandoPuter that goes in the gauntlet.
