OT TK neck seal
« on: May 31, 2017, 09:03:23 PM »
So since I'm now waiting for BBB day to arrive I can seriously get started on the other stuff. I've already received my TKBoots last year and did a quick sand and paint job on a Rubies blaster. I'll hopefully be able to upgrade to a resin kit. I decided I should start on my neck seal now. I'll be scratch building it and basing it on pandatroopers design but making my own modifications to it.

I decided on a four way stretch "leather" and automotive liner for my materials. I'm no seamstress so this is entirely new territory for me. So yeah any tips or help will be greatly appreciated.

So after a few bad starts and technical difficulties I have the main envelope part done, but I can already see where I need make changes. To me it seems too tall, but perhaps that's normal?

it does look tall, but hard to say until its done. Maybe you have a long neck to cover :)

Not really, but since this is my first attempt I'm not gonna bash myself too much. I am going to trim it down more though. I may do something different on my next attempt.

you are making your own neck seal, so you shouldnt bash yourself at all.

I'm actually not at all as you say. I've never worked a sewing machine outside of making a small bag for my headphones years ago. So far I'm happy with it. Learning curve and all ya know?

Fully agree with you Mindi. Just lots of curve for me in the process.

So ignoring the obvious part of top to bottom made the first major boo boo. Didn't do the top two ribs on the left side, bottom as you see it here. But I do like the look so far.

So finished off the first attempt and I like it, but definitely need to adjust some things.

Thanks Mindi, like I said this just the prototype and I'll have to adjust things and remember top to bottom. I also realized it is a little too small around as well as a little too tall. The next one will be much better. :-)

So test fitting and I think I will need just a little more length to it. Though the gap is minimal it feels a little tight still. Should it be snug on the neck or slightly loose?

The notch at the throat definitely needs to go a little deeper.

looks good. I would go little loose rather than tight. Many of them have velcro so it can be adjusted either way.
