Polar Plunge for the Oregon Special Olympics

Hey guys,

I have never presented anything like this on these forums, but a special cause here in Oregon has grabbed by heart.

As most of you know, I am a police officer here in Oregon and several other agencies are involved in a "Polar Plunge" to raise money for the Oregon Special Olympics.  My team consists of 5 other officers from my agency.  What we do is jump into the Columbia River ( very cold ) on a early morning in January. 

I cant think of too many reasons why I would ever submit my body to such agony , but this definately does. 

Evey team member is to collect as many donations as possible before January 30th.  ALL donations go to the Oregon Special Olympics.  If you guys could even just donate  $1, that would add up and make a difference.

woo, i did something like that at camp when i was a kid. wake up at 6am and jump in the river each day of the week to earn a prize at the end. You guys are doing it for a way better cause, hope you raise lots!

Just got back!

Holy bageezus that river is cold.  i cant explain it any better than ''it hurt'', it was so cold.

Thanks to all that donated to the cause.  The Troutdale PD team raised just over $2500 for the Oregon Special Olympics.  I will post pics as I get them.

...and the whole portland metro event turned out $135,000 in donations.  and that was before they were even done counting all the members and teams.  I'm sure it's much greater.  I will post the final $$ when it is announced.
