OryCon and Cloud City Garrison
« on: November 10, 2008, 06:51:15 PM »
Some of you may know that I will be hosting a table at OryCon this year. The purpose of this is basically for a recruiting drive for CCG.

I would appreciate any help that can be offered. What I really need are promotional materials, and here is where you come in. I bought a photo album yesterday for holding up to 208 4x6 inch photos.

I would appreciate it if anyone has any 4x6 photos of them in their costumes to send to me. If you have multiple costumes, that would be great as well. The purpose of the photo album is to show the visitors of the table how accurate our costumes are, that we aren't just a bunch of folks in cheap Halloween costumes.

I think it will add, significantly, to the table. So, please contact me right away if you can assist in this project. OryCon is just a couple of weeks away, Nov 21-23.

On a side note, I will also welcome the Rebel costume pics as well, since we all tend to work together for the same goals, I will recruit for Kashyyyk Base, as well as Cloud City Garrison.

The staffing for the table is already full. But should anyone want to come down and check it out, I would be happy to see you guys. For those who don't know what OryCon is, it is a convention here in Portland that takes place every year at the Portland Mariott (on Naito Parkway). It is basically a weekend event where geeks from all spectrums get together, usually "furries" and other fantasy-type costumers. The only lame thing about them is that they have a policy of no weapons / no masks... in Imperial translation, no blasters / no buckets. I will be there in my Imperial Officer's uniform. I will have a couple others, tentatively, as Imperial Technicians from ROTJ.

There is a hospitality room ( for convention attendees to get their food and drink), gaming rooms, merchant's room, workshops and the like. I believe the price of admission for the event is Fri $25, Sat $35,   Sun $25. Admission is required to get into the exclusive areas, aforementioned areas, but the fan tables (where I am located) is in the common areas. Last year I walked around the fan table areas and nobody bothered to check me for my admission pass. The only time I was asked was when I was peeking inside the merchant's room. Not that I would support cheating any entity out of money, but one could wander around the common areas and not pay the admission. I leave that up to everyone's individual moral code!

For more information on OryCon, check out their site here: http://www.orycon.org/orycon30/

Thanks for the help (in advance)!

awesome info bill, i had requested this on another thread.i had checked out their website and was led to believe that it was a $50 fee for all three days, period. i would be happy to print out some pics from past events for your table. and i just might show up as old ben saturday,(are lightsabers ok?), and then go on to meet RL member lufta shift from klamath falls at a place mentioned in the CCG kashyyk base private forums thread "heading to portland" :D
BTW it was great to see you at the portland comicbook show (swap meet).........old tony kenobi

I'm not privy to KB private areas, so I wouldn't even know what you were talking about.
I didn't even know that Lufta was heading up.

Fan tables were free, unless there was a need for electricity. At least that was the case when I inquired about it. I know they did charge a fee for a merchant's table, which is in a segregated section from the rest of the Con. It could be that is what the $50 fee would be.

If you do come, your Jedi would be welcome. In regard to the question of the lightsaber, in a word: no. But let's put it this way, Tim and I went two years ago and he had his lightsaber hilt hanging off of his belt. We happened to be eating at a table with one of the security guys who told Tim to tuck the saber away so that he couldn't see it. If he couldn't see it, he "couldn't" say anything about it. And he emphasized that he didn't want to say anything about it. So, if you do come as Old Obi-Wan, either leave the lightsaber at home, or in the car, or hook on the back of our saberbelt and keep your robe on. If they can't see it, they can't gripe about it. That would be my advice!

It was nice to finally see a Comic Book Show and actually see everything clearly. That was one of the benefits of just showing up as a regular patron. When in costume, I don't wear my glasses and I don't see things clearly at all. I miss a lot of cool stuff at tables just because my eyes are focused enough to catch little things. So it was nice just being an ordinary Joe...

Eric and I did see Dallas and Daria. We chatted with them for a little bit. I was surprised that Daria and Dallas actually remembered me. I've seen them a few times and chatted, but that was in costume and I look a little bit different in my normal clothes. It is always a treat to see them, they are so down to earth and friendly. I shook hands with Dallas and Daria gave me a hug. Eric snapped a pic of the three of us. Good times!

Seeing that other Jedi running around, Eric and I tapped him to join the RL:KB, and chatting with those custom mandos was a real treat. I got their contact info and other info on their costuming group: The Mandalorian Mercs. They have a pretty cool website. Anyone thinking about doing a custom mando should check it out - http://mercs. firespray. net/main/ index.php

ok, will keep the deadly saber on the down low (even just a handle????). i got decked out as "duck vader" at a couple U of O games, and they made me leave the stadium to get rid of my lightsaber
i also got to talk with the mando mercs, "boba fett"s bucket lens fell out and i came to the rescue (in typical jedi fashon) with a roll of duct tape  looking foreward to orycon, anyone else? bueller, bueller.....old tony

Good to know, Matt... I thought you were still on for assisting with the manning of the table with me. Nick2 is supposed to be the other person. As far as I know he is still a go. Nick????

I'd like to get together with Matt and Nick here within this next week, if possible. PM me and let me know when a good for that would be..

Anyone who is willing to give me 4x6 pics, PM me as well. I would appreciate it. Having a full album would be best. Like I said if you have multiple costumes and can get me good, clear pics of you in a 4x6 pic, I'll take them - all of them and put them in the album. The more the merrier! Just make sure they are appropriate for the public to see..... meaning, those trooper on the toilet type of pics aren't what I am looking for.

Thanks, guys!

I can get you a copy of the Pilot Party Poster I'm making for the Pilot Party.  It has the pertinent info on it and is a great way to advertise getting into costuming.

This is next weekend folks. I am still in need of a few more things and I really could use the help from the garrison on this.

I am still needing 4x6 pics of troopers for the photo album. This is where the garrison comes into play. If you have them, or the ability to make them, I only need one for the photo album. This event is to showcase this garrison, let's represent it well. Please get me your photos. PM me.

I am still needing to pick up that Stormtrooper standee from Kyle. Anytime this week would be good, Kyle. Just let me know when would be good.

I am also needing to print out CCG contact cards. If anyone could help in this, I would be appreciative. I would like to NOT be the only one who is shoulder all the cost on this project. Again, this is your garrison, as well as mine. Let's all chip in to help promote it at OryCon.

I am still needing a recruiting-style poster. Kyle, did you still have something available from your work, or no?

I think that is about it. Should anyone have any ideas, please speak up or PM me.

Thanks!

Bill, if you want to come pick some stuff up on Wednesday evening, maybe we could meet up half way? I'm supposed to visit Michael that evening as well.

I can bring some of my photos from last year's WTC event, the CCG Banner, the Stormtrooper standee, some flyers and a recruitment poster (which will at least be 11x17 if not bigger).

Come on folks, if you've got stuff that will help these guys get the word out, they could use it!

Hey Bill, how about this?

I have business cards for the garrison.  A bunch of them.  I will make a way to get them to you.

For the table: How about I make a giant board that has pictures and stuff that we have done.  Very similar to the ones I used to have and made for tabling.  If you want me to make a big or medium sized display of us (CCG, 501st, and even Rebel Legion if you want) I will make one and have it ready for you.  Say the word and it is done.  I have a lot of time on my hands.
