Stop the Press!
« on: January 30, 2008, 11:19:31 AM »
Oh how I do wish I could get my hands on one of these.... has anyone seen these yet? European release is 2.2.08. I have read on TechEblog (or something like that) that the projectors are going for $2520! Not sure if the webcam is the same price..... that would be one expensive unit if it were! I think I need to win the lottery or something!

I'd rather build my own.  It would be a projector in a droid body with a DVD/CD player built in.

Insert the DVD, its head spins around, kicks itself onto the third leg, and projects it on the wall with some beeping.  The remote would resemble Luke's droid caller.

For that matter, hook in some bluetooth tech to make it voice activated!

Well... if you are skilled in such areas. I, however, am not. But that would be really sweet to have. I wonder when it will be available here in the States. Now, if that thing could accomodate a gaming system.... yeah, there is nothing like gaming with the screen contents projected up on the wall! I mean, really, how cool is it to see 24" clones or battle droids up on the side of your wall, slugging it out? Let me tell you, it is AWESOME!!!!

Our church sometimes hosts a youth game night when they project these games up front. Take down all the chairs. There are tons of 'kids/young adults' there. It really does make a difference.

OMG, He did say GONK! That thing was awesome. Why, Oh why, didn't we keep it. :(
Now, How about a Full Scale MF-type Cockpit to sit in while watching the Saga and playing video games. Something like it will be built for the Fan Film I'm writing, which is still in preproduction, But soon enough.

I still have the GONK.... it is sitting in my storage unit. It took on some water damage, because you know it rained like crazy after the exhibit had concluded. So I really haven't done anything with it. Besides... that thing is HEAVY!!!!!!

What could you possibly want with that rustic thing, eh?

I think we should repair it, flip it over and use it as a portable carbon-freezing unit.......

I think we should remake Gonk, with a lighter material, and let him live again.....

If this is a costume you're talking about, we can make my wife wear it... she's got the height down.  :D

Lighter materials? Absolutely, man. I do want to do a second version. That first one was and is brutal.

If this is a costume you're talking about, we can make my wife wear it... she's got the height down.  :D

Yeah, umm, dude, trust me, she is not wearing that thing. I can guarantee it! If you have seen what we are talking about it would make you cringe. The thing weighed over 100lbs, at least. I was bruised to the collar bones because it was so heavy. Who would have thought that plywood and other accessory pieces would have amounted to so much weight? Oh, that's right, my fellow costumes did!

tk409 did a very light screen accurate Gonk and even made a tutorial.
