EVENT TYPE: 501/RL Formal
WHAT: Portland, Walk ALS Event
WHERE: Moda Center - 1 Center Court Street, Portland, Oregon 97232 in Portland, Oregon
DATE: Sunday, June 2nd
TIME: 11am-1pm

CAUSE: ALS Northwest
To provide comprehensive support and advocacy for people with ALS and their families, while advancing research for new treatments and an end to ALS.
PARKING: We are working with Moda Center for free parking in their garages during our event time, but this is unknown for now so you may need to pay for parking.
CHANGING AND STORAGE: We can provide changing space if we have confirmation that someone is coming. Last year we provided such a space and no one joined us. That cost us mission dollars and was disappointing.
COSTUME REQUESTS: Imperials, Rebels, Jedi
BLASTER POLICY: Blaster and lightsabers are fine.
MEMBERS' CHILDREN IN COSTUME: Yes, children in costume are welcome to attend
OTHER DETAILS: This event is an awareness, community buidling, and fundraising event. Generally we have about 2000 people in attendance.
ANYTHING ELSE: We would LOVE to have you join us
EVENT WEBSITE: https://secure.alsoregon.org/site/TR?fr_id=1151&pg=entry

ROSTER:
Andrew - TB (+Joy = Spotter)

Joy and I will attend, I as a Biker Scout, and her as a spotter. They love us being there, and it's a big event with thousands of people. A big turnout from us is always appreciated!

I was looking at the site, I didn’t really see a lot about the walking…what does 501st do here? Are they a walking team, or a sideline cheering team? I was wondering mostly because my job is outside 40 hours a week, and in the summer I need a heat break, but if it is more of a cheering team, I can do this! I was actually going to ask my coworker if she would like to go because she does ALS stuff.

Not committing just yet!

We just cheer. We take pics before the walk. Cheer them and give high fives as they start their walk, etc.

We can always use spotters to help take photos (the kids/groups walking use their cell phones to take pics, but we can always help offer to take them for them so they don't have to do a selfie if they don't want want to). Spotters also can help with any costume help. So you're more than welcome to bring your friend.

I will be cheering, and walking it, since I started the Legion involvement with the ALS Association after my dad passed from the disease, and I used to run a team for him for over a decade. I'm personal friends with Lance Christian. I do not expect anyone to walk it with me, it's a tough and long walk. I'd say just about, or longer than the Starlight. I've also been absent from the walk for a number of years, so I'm pretty eager beaver to walk it again!

Edit: I did not realize it's not on the waterfront anymore and going across bridges, so I have no idea how short or long the walk is! Sorry peeps!

I can do this one with you!! Cheering sounds great.

I just don’t want to be a sad lonely gunner when you run off to do the walk, though. (I’m not doing the starlight the day before so I’ll be energized!)

I hope a few more people sign up to cheer with us!

My friend lost her dad, and then her sister shortly after to ALS, but she can’t do this walk.

I have to be somewhere by 1pm, but I can do 11-12ish as OTTK if we have a spotter.

There is a spotter signed up, and I can also help. I will need some phone numbers possibly because it’s a huge area and I honestly don’t know where I’ll find you guys! I’m super excited more people are coming to hang out!

Thanks! If they don’t tell us otherwise let’s just meet in the Garden Parking garage on N Ramsay Way. We can just walk around the corner to the event from there.

Sounds good. I will try to get there 9:30 ish or so to try to beat the crowds, and just bring a coffee and hang. I’ll post a message when I park (I’m a red Subaru wrx), and let you know where I am. Looks like it will be rainy, I hope we have a covered spot to cheer from. ????

We’re going to get changed at Jack’s down in the main area. They have the restaurant empty and available.
