Progress is slowing down as I wait on my latex parts, but I added the Velcro to the jerkin so that it will seal shut:

20190313_120942 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

The bottom will be hidden by the belt and the top should be hidden by my arms.

Lastly, the jerkin has a circular metal disk with studs in it. I have been brainstorming how to go about this as it's difficult for me to sew the bumped out portion on a circle. Here was my third or fourth attempt:

Use IG88's neck for the size of the circle I want:

20190312_133101 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190312_133316 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Find an old charging cable that isn't used anymore:

20190312_144507 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Figure out how large the outside section needs to be:

20190312_145700 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Glue the charging cable into place so it will stay where I want it when I sew:

20190312_154530 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Sew down inside of outer circle and cut circle so that it will fold over where I want it:

20190312_174314 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Slowly sew the inside again on the back this time but as close to the charging cord as possible:

20190313_112709 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And, you have this:

20190313_112714 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Add leather rivets per the reference material:

20190313_123113 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

The rivets are in place but are way too long for this piece, since it's rather thin, so I may see if I can find some shorter rivets or perhaps some split rivets that will work, but it came out pretty good for what it needs to be.

I have my belt material and have verified that the sizes I purchased are correct. Going to head to Tandy tomorrow to pick up the massive D-rings I need and am still working on the front of the belt ring but have a few options. Once all that's done, I just need to paint the jerkin and I think I'm just latex goods, arm and shoulder armor, and sandal straps away from being able to submit for approval. I'll probably use this spare time to come up with my ax or vibro-ax.

Was able to swing by Tandy in Tacoma on my way to ECCC and get the D-rings that I needed for my belt. Spent some time today putting it together. I had previously found this ring on eBay.

I've got some glue drying on some Velcro that'll be what keeps it closed in the front and I need to add a little bit of leather cord here and there but it's essentially done and I'm really happy with it.

While I was at Tandy, I also found better studs for my chest disk. Here it is now:

20190317_160155 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

I reached out to the guy doing my latex and it's supposed to be ready next week. I'm real eager to try everything on with the latex to see if anything needs to be remade or altered. Otherwise, I may paint the jerkin this week and start on the weapon. Kinda running out of things to work on...

Went ahead and sewed my chest disk on to the jerkin and then suited up with everything that's done so far:

20190318_154405 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190318_154403 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Also, I did some searching and think I have a viable axe solution. More on that when it gets here as it will need some customization. Last thing I think I can really do before my latex gets here is paint the jerkin. I'd like it to have a bit of a yellowed, but real dirty, color, so I ordered some mustard colored Angelus leather paint. The CRL doesn't really mention any colors, so I think it will look good and be screen accurate.

I think I'll start working on the chest disk for Missy since that was a real difficult part to do and I can do it on my own. Then we get her caught up next time we meet so we can get two Gammos out and about well before Rose City!

Got my paint in and gave the jerkin a nice, yellow, tint. Here, you can see the yellow going on the bottom and the tan part on the top:

20190327_151259 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

It left me with something like this:

20190327_153554 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

But, I want it to be nice and weathered and dirty, so I did that. Of course, I felt like I did too much and then I toned it down, so now it looks like too little:

20190327_161150 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190327_161205 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

So, I'm going to plan to go over that a few more times and bring it up and tone it down to get it to where I like it. It's a start at least.

Lastly, my latex goods should be shipped this week. Here is proof that they are coming soon!

I think mine may be the set without the mask since I bought that elsewhere. I feel like I'm getting real close!

Also, the post office tried to deliver my mask today but since I wasn't back yet, I'll have to see about picking it up on Monday or Tuesday. From looking at the latex parts, the quality is truly top notch. I'll need some foam in the thighs to keep them with their form, but not too much. I'll need to figure out how to keep the thighs up and the arms on. The shoulder pieces need strapping. The feet and legs need their leather wraps. Also, as I hoped, the feet have no bottom so you wear sandals and they kind of just sit over the top. It'll help once the sweat starts dripping.

So, getting closer, but it's going to have to hold off until after Celebration!

Got a pile of parts staring at me and wasn't sure where to start. Well, I guess I could try on the legs to see what needs to be done.

20190407_122227 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Putting on the legs, it became apparent that my fur diaper needed to be lowered to hide the sides of the thighs so that there is no gap. I lowered it and this then made it so that my vest comes only to the top of the diaper. Not specifically a problem, but it does mean that there isn't as much girth around my mid section where my belt is to sit. I have 2 options at this point, 1. I could shorten the belt, but that makes me look like a little bit thinner Gamo, or 2. I could add some extra to my vest and to my jerkin to bring it down about 3-6 more inches to make up for the difference. I'm gonna ponder this for a bit and come back to it.

So, I moved on to the arms. I wanted to try them on to see how my shirt sleeves that I made earlier fit.

20190407_154503 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Came out pretty good, but I'm concerned that the part of the sleeves that goes around my shoulder is not large enough. It will all be covered by the shoulder armor, but I think from a comfort standpoint, I may remake the sleeves... So, I'll return to this as well... Pretty happy with how it looks though:

20190407_155415 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

So, continuing to work down my list, I know that I needed to add a way to keep the arms on me. So, I cut the latex so that my arm would fit a little better and then added a few slits so I can add some webbing:

20190407_163355 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190407_164451 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And then I added one that will sit on the back of my neck to really help keep them up:

20190407_170844 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190407_171036 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190407_171147 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

That's it for today. I'll keep thinking about the other parts and what I want to scrap and redo. It just wouldn't be one of my costumes if I didn't rebuild parts 3 or more times!

More wonderful surprises!!! Mask day arrived!

20190408_131536 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190408_132113 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

But, back to where I left off, working on the legs. I need them to stay up, which is why I built the harness/suspender system. First thing was to add some Velcro to the inside of the legs:

20190408_153841 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Then, I needed to sew some straps:

20190408_211410 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190408_211410 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Using webbing instead of elastic as I don't want them to stretch over time and fall down.

20190408_214240 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190408_221625 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And, boom!

20190409_132116 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Trying them on with the fur diaper now as well:

20190409_132433 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190409_132442 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

So, trying on stuff again:

20190409_133625 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Still, like I said before, just not happy with the girth now. The vest ends before the diaper and the belt doesn't sit right. So, going the long road, I decided to add foam to the bottom of my vest to give it more girth and to lengthen it:

20190409_140630 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

I did this on the front and back and then sewed on extensions. Then, I sewed another 6 inches on to my jerkin and tried it all on again:

20190409_195953 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190409_195957 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190409_200012 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190409_200015 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

So, I'm really happy with where I am, but there's still work to do. I need to paint the jerkin extension. I want to sew velcro on the bottom of the vest extensions to close it and keep the foam in place. The belt may need to be tightened slightly. I may want to add a few pieces of foam to my flanks, on top of the side Velcro, to help bulk it out. I may need to cut off some of the excess jerkin. The axe needs a paint job. The shoulder pads are just sitting in place as the leather strapping for them is on order but I'm going to use some excess leather and snaps to keep them in place attached to the shoulders of the jerkin. The sandals need their strapping, which is on order and should be here in a few days. I also am just wearing the latex feet over my bare feet, so I need to mount some sandals in there to make it more comfortable to wear. And, I think the back of the head scarf needs to be replaced to match my undershirt and it also needs to be tucked in to the neck area.

Otherwise, I'm really happy with where it stands and will take a few days off to go to Celebration. I'll hopefully be able to come back and finish the last few details and submit for approval and focus on getting Missy caught up. If you see any things I didn't list above that need to be done, please let me know!

Back from Celebration and the Star Wars tanks are fully recharged! I received some feedback, which I agree with, that my Gamo was too thin. So, I made some additional padding to go under my arms and help round him out:

20190417_081721 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190417_124047 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

This actually solved a few problems. It also made it so that my belt fit again and doesn't need further adjustment. After that, I cut where the jerkin came under the belt and painted the newly added on parts. No pics though.

Then, I started working on the shoulder armor. I want it to snap into place onto my jerkin so that it hangs where it's supposed to. So, I made some snaps and straps:

20190416_130654 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190416_130643 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190416_132026 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

I then made the leather straps to go under my arm but those are boring and I'll put them on once I get the rest on.

Today, I started working on the sandals, which I figure is about the last part for submission. I added some Velcro underneath them:

20190417_131624 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And then started cutting leather to build the sandal:

20190417_131629 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190417_143542 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190417_143635 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And now I have one sandal!

20190417_150225 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190417_150417 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20190417_150429 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Gonna tighten it up in places and maybe add a little velcro to keep them in place but dang, they look good! So, I would power through and make the last one, but this took about 8 feet of leather. And I had purchased about 8 feet of leather... So, now I'm waiting on ebay again. Hope to have it all done and take some possible submission photos in the next week or so!

In a bit of a holding pattern waiting for the final leather for my other sandal, so I took care of the remaining items I wanted to do before submittal.

The scarf on the back of the neck is supposed to match the sleeves, so it had to go!

20190420_104008 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

I added Velcro strips so that the new one will be removable:

20190420_113454 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And then reinserted the foam:

20190420_113629 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

It'll do!

20190420_113812 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Then, while not necessary for submittal, a Gamo needs an axe! Found a pair of these really neat ones but they look like toys (because they are):

20190420_134457 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Started weathering the handle. Weathered one in progress on top:

20190420_141013 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And now Missy and I have a nice pair of axes. One for each of us!

20190420_143025 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Thinking my leather may not be in the mail today as I've been out there checking all day. Perhaps Monday and then I can make my other sandal and see where I am regarding submittal!
