plastic strengthening
« on: January 28, 2016, 07:39:51 PM »
I have a question for the current TK folks.  I don't have my kit yet, but I have been hearing that the plastic is thin.  I was thinking of reinforcing it using the plastidip+cheesecloth method some use on the bucket
Could I get your thoughts on this?  I asked on FISD, but it was kind of glossed over.

I'm not a current TK, but I do have the Anovos kit, so here's my $.02.

I don't think the plastic seems thin at all. I believe it's 1.5mm and it seems very durable and flexible, in a good way.

Not sure what people are talking about.  IMO, I think it might be people throwing shade on the kit.

ABS kits typically come in 1, 1.5, and 2mm plastic. My ATA is 2mm and it is really thick and rigid, almost too rigid. I know TM kits come in 1 or 1.5mm options. I wouldn't think the Anovos kit being 1.5mm would need re-enforcing at all. Would just be a lot of extra work. :)

Great! Thanks for the input!  I got a tracking notice yesterday and my handguards and belt parts are being shipped next week (ATA)

Unless you find a REALY thin spot, don't worry about it.
I have a TK made out of styrene.
Now that one IS THIN!
And it had a couple of too thin area I bulked up with 2 part epoxy and a piece of webbing.
But I'm talking nearly see through thin.
Other than that, it holds ups fairly well.
So ABS....Don't worry  "A bout it"!

Christina,  I'll add an update... The sides of the kidney are pretty thin.

Okay. :)  I'll play it by ear.  If it seems a bit thin I'll beef it up. :)
