Rat's E-11 salvage mission
« on: August 15, 2018, 02:16:13 AM »
So awhile back I was working on doing a modified Rubies E-11 for when I finished my TK and I had something to stand in for my blaster until I could get a hold of something better for higher accuracy. While I was working on it I got an offer of some parts and a not such great shape THG blaster from Chris (cj49). Chris I'm still extremely thankful and grateful for that offer. So needless to say I took him up on it and briefly stopped in at, I think the last armor party, talked with a few of you guys and got said blaster and parts.
I then ordered a counter from doopy doos and this completed all my parts needed to start the building. Rough shape was right, thin parts, broken parts, lots of little defects and a couple of spots where the molds were off.

There was work to be done..
So I started at it.

Got a couple of coats of filler primer on to my counter and scope. I just could not seem to get rid of that line on the scope hopefully once it is painted that will be minimized.

So sort of a small update. I've reworked the rail and am much happier with it now. I've also done the counter bracket however I'm not sure of the placement. Thought it was under the rear scope leg, but seems too close to the stock hinge. I also reworked my D-ring and put together a reasonable rear sight. I also added a bit of material to the y arms for some stability and to, hopefully, keep them from bending when they warm up.

Scope and counter are mounted. Priming time I think.

The painting has begun. Black satin on the scope, counter and rail. Then the hammered finish on the main body. I also decided to get some paint onto the rubies too. Can never have too many spare blasters for photos.

So got the satin black down. Thinking of which techniques to use for the silver/aluminium. I have some silver rustoleum, but I also have a silver acrylic that I could dry brush. The same goes for the spring.

So it seems a little too glossy for a satin finish, but the black is down. Now to let it dry and I think some dry brushing is in my future for the aluminium bits.

That's a blaster hopefully resurrected and salvaged. Just needs a bit of white crayons for the print on the scope.
