Title: Hello from Beaverton!
Post by: DwarfJedi on June 12, 2023, 03:47:42 PM
Hi! I'm not new to cosplay but it's been a while... for the past decade I've been mostly doing Ancient Roman living history with the SCA, so I need to make all new outfits. I'm thinking Jedi and Jawa to start. I have a sewing machine but there's usually a lot of swearing involved. I can handsew a straight line like nobody's business (see Roman, above ).

I am also happy to be un-costumed help for events. I've got a jacket with geeky patches I like to wear for things like that. :)

PS - the name is because I'm 4'10"  - Happy to take costume suggestions for my height and generous build (don't say Gonk Droid, that's just mean! LOL)

I may be able to help with a Jawa costume, unless you are looking to make your own. I have a couple Jawas that I have purchased the last couple of years that I havent gotten around to using yet :P

Welcome! Jawa should be a fun one to start off, and it is also a dual costume which will get you membership into both the 501st & RL if you so desire.  I did one for my friend "Lil Lisa", she is 5'. The Jawas in A New Hope were recruited elementary school children from Death Valley, CA & some of the producers kids. Heights were all over the the place.

Hello and welcome! Any costume can be made to fit any build, so don't be discouraged or limited! We can help with anything you'd like to make. We're hoping to get some meet and greets and build parties scheduled soon so keep an eye out. It would be great to meet you!

CJ49er: Normally I would sew my own but if you've got them handy that sounds great - I'll PM you.
Nathanzx10r & CadBane3: Thanks for the warm welcome! :)  I'd love to do Pelli at some point. The crazy wig will be half the fun!

CJ49er - I have tried sending you a PM but nothing is showing up in the "sent" area of my messages. Would love to talk about the Jawa costumes.
My friend Sara (who naturally has the hair) is doing Pelli. :)

Yeah man, cosplay who you wanna! :D

But also if you really are looking for more short character ideas, there are also Ewoks, Leia (Carrie was 5'1"), Rose (Kelly Marie Tran is 5'2"), Frog lady (4'9"), Maz Kanata (4'1"), or if you really want to go for short, there is Yoda or Yaddle.

Maz or the frog lady would be a lot of fun, but I wouldn't know how to do the facial prosthetics.

There is a seller that makes a great set, I see them on facebook from time to time. I will keep an eye out and pass on the info.

Sellers name is Walter Welsh, I will link his Etsy Store for you.  Gloves and mask are sold separately.  I do not own any of these, but I have just seen others reviews of the product. Hope that helps some.

Time has flown by! I finally submitted my Jedi outfit pics a few days ago. I didn't get a "your submission was received" email - I don't know if I should have? Fingere crossed...

That's fantastic! Good luck on your submission!

If you don't hear anything after a few days to a week, please let us know and we can have the Rebel Legion side of our command crew look in to it.

Good luck with everything!

I submitted my second costume (a generic Mirialan Jedi) in almost two weeks ago. I haven't gotten an email or anything yet from Rebel Legion. They just updated their judging process, and local applications now have to be screened by a Kashyyyk Base Membership Officer, before they are sent to the judges' queue. Maybe that's why it's been taking longer for them, perhaps working out the kinks of the new system.

Well, it's been another week or two... nothing yet... can you please just check that the submission worked? I totally understand if they haven't gotten to it yet, just want to be sure no more action is needed on my part. :)

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing about mine...since it's getting closer to 3 weeks for me.

Do you have an account on the Rebel Legion forums? LaVonne, or LaV317 is her username, she's the Legion Membership Officer. She's been very helpful in answering my questions about membership. You could shoot her a PM with any questions you have.

I've sent a note to the Kashyyyk Base leadership to see if they can find out a status update.

Stupid question but where do I find info on upcoming events? I added myself to the Spotter list months ago but have never been contacted. I know there has to be something happening for May 4th but I can't figure it out. https://www.starwarsoregon.com/calendar/ maybe it's just my Mac (?) but there's nothing on this calendar.
I'm happy to be a spotter if my Jedi outfit isn't approved by then. *fingers crossed, trusting in the Force*

Spotters are used generally for larger events and cons with large crowds. Full access to the events section of the forum will be granted with approval, which hopefully be soon for you!
