Title: Gamorrean Guard
Post by: CadBane3 on March 04, 2019, 04:19:56 PM
Hey all! Been awhile and now that Mac's armor is (nearly) done and the Magic Wheelchair is done, it's time for me to start building something else for myself. Missy and I have decided that we want to harass patrons at Rose City as twin Gammos! So, let the fun begin!

First step of any great build is the planning stage. Started drawing out what I wanted to do for the undersuit and then building the parts out of small foam to see if it was even feasible. I've reached out to the most amazing Gammo on the web and been getting a lot of help.

So, I ran to Joann and bought some of the fabrics and foam that I will need to use:

First thing that I wanted to tackle was the torso for the undersuit. It's kind of like a tactical vest, so I placed down a tank top that fits and then started cutting away:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7827/46560367514_a19ce889e5_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dWo489)20190219_133153 (https://flic.kr/p/2dWo489) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

At this point, I was thinking about Velcro to secure it shut. So, I added on the Velcro strips and sewed strapping. I'll revisit this later as it gets tossed out the window... Learning as I go...

I even built a mannequin since I didn't have one...

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7824/32341736667_b6cf2c7acd_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RgVRxr)20190221_154815 (https://flic.kr/p/RgVRxr) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Then, I built the back hump:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7819/40319004183_01d50c92ea_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24qRrfx)20190225_154822 (https://flic.kr/p/24qRrfx) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Now, I started thinking lower torso/diaper area. This is where the craft foam and a small doll come into play.

Attempt 1:

Nah, pass.

Attempt 2:

Too funny looking...

Attempt 3:

Can't even explain what went wrong on this one...

Attempt 4:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7905/40319002733_db4c98a801_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24qRqPx)20190228_152748 (https://flic.kr/p/24qRqPx) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

SUCCESS! Rounded hips, rounding into the belly area. I like it. Now, I have a pattern to use.

Going full size:

The secret is to take the notches out of the top front, back, and sides. This helps to round the foam and keeps it from having abrupt edges.

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7829/32341734377_7dffa6cfa7_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RgVQRX)20190301_124702 (https://flic.kr/p/RgVQRX) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Oh, and I added the cod padding. Not sure if that's necessary but all the other Gammos do it and I don't want them making fun of me...

The next layer in the lower torso is the nappy/diaper. After a small build party this weekend, I hammered out some enormous shorts!

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7895/47283568771_7cc3868469_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2f3hDEk)received_1986750198287388 (https://flic.kr/p/2f3hDEk) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Then, I cut them to fit a little better:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7883/32341738367_a247051fbd_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RgVS3K)20190302_180014_1551578426024 (https://flic.kr/p/RgVS3K) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Now, the fur skirt. I made it long for now as most Gammos have the nappy showing at the bottom but I can always take away fur and I can't really add it. I may also swap the fur out for a longer fur length at some point in the future but am not sure if it's really needed. Maybe something from the goat family...

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7808/47283563391_351e4e6661_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2f3hC4z)20190302_195113 (https://flic.kr/p/2f3hC4z) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

I then added four straps that are sewn into the fur and then they pass through slits in the nappy and the foam so that they will hold everything up. Two in the front and two in the back. These will eventually be attached to my harness system, which I have partially built but am waiting on a heavy duty set of suspenders.

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7876/46369008535_2a457d0f6d_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dDthLp)20190302_210204 (https://flic.kr/p/2dDthLp) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

So, here's where I stood Saturday night:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7825/47283562781_db89acf45c_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2f3hBT4)20190303_105234 (https://flic.kr/p/2f3hBT4) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

I decided that I wanted something to cover the foam on the chest piece. One, to help it stay together. Two, to help it last longer, and three, if it's inside something, I can take it out and swap it should it get funky, which I'm sure will happen. So, I spent Sunday sewing an outside layer for the vest. The foam slides in the bottom and I'll have velcro enclosures to keep it in.

I think I have the Gamorrean posture down!

Today, I took everything apart and sewed elastic into the legs of the nappy to make it an actual nappy. I also cut away several inches of fur at the bottom, but may take more off later.

So, anyway, lots and lots to do still but what a fun build so far! And, I'm going to have a partner in crime so it's great that I've gotten this far and learned from lots of mistakes and things that just won't work. I also am very blessed to have the best Gamorrean in the legion helping me out. Troopers helping troopers!

I have the mask on order from Chris Stephens Creations and the arms, legs, hands, and feet on order from Skywalkers. Hoping those parts aren't the 3-7 months waits I was quoted...

Next up will be undershirt sleeves! Exciting!

SO Cool! Gammoreans kill me with one whack even as a "hero" in the old Battlefront 2 Jabba's palace map.

The next "layer" is the undershirt. The only part of this that really shows is the neckline and the short sleeves. It's a bit tough to make something at this point since I don't know how thick my guns will be once I have my latex parts, but I soldiered on and can remake parts if they don't work.

Made roughly two sleeves attached to part of a shirt since I didn't need the whole shirt:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7824/40339258413_6a503d9547_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24sDf8p)20190305_120427 (https://flic.kr/p/24sDf8p) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7814/46580796834_a60f7818f6_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dYbL3N)20190305_155516 (https://flic.kr/p/2dYbL3N) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

I always make stuff that I think will be way too big, and then cut it down to size. Much easier than starting over. Still, if these aren't wide enough once I have the arms on, they'll need to be remade.

Today, I added some clips to them to keep them in the right place and cut them down to size a bit, and shortened the sleeves some (more to come probably). I also added the Velcro to the chest piece that I wanted to keep the foam from slipping out:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7906/46580796254_b2fe2dd455_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dYbKSN)20190306_160343 (https://flic.kr/p/2dYbKSN) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7879/47251613182_d180fbbd93_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2eZsSnU)20190306_160346 (https://flic.kr/p/2eZsSnU) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

These may need to be remade anyway, but I'll cross that bridge when I get down to it. I don't like how the back sits, but since they'll be covered in the vest/jerkin, it may not be a big deal.

Then, I made this "bib" which just sits on the chest and provides the neck line that you need underneath the vest/jerkin. I added Velcro to it at the shoulders and then Velcro to my vest shoulder straps so it will stay in place:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7832/32362325037_2c8e18fb4c_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RiKnKk)20190306_160411 (https://flic.kr/p/RiKnKk) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7916/32362324757_531c5578e3_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RiKnEv)20190306_160414 (https://flic.kr/p/RiKnEv) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

That's about it for today. I got my suspenders in so I can start building my harness to keep my fur diaper up and then also I believe the legs will need to be attached to it as well. After the harness is in progress, I'll start on my vest/jerkin and see how it looks. May tweak things here and there but I really need my latex before I can do much more. I should have the arms/legs/feet/hands in the next few weeks. Still may be a few months out on my head...

I guess I could make a weapon. That should take a day or so... =)

When we left off, I had sleeves that I'm not sure will work, but powering on...the next layer is the vest/jerkin. This one troubled me as it's tough to see how it is made and I got some really good quality shots of some Gammos and was able to figure out that it's stitched together a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. So, I took a spare sheet that the wife won't miss (I hope!) and cut it to pieces! I wanted a template to start with.

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7806/47280186442_442daac17c_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2f2Zjdj)20190308_130459 (https://flic.kr/p/2f2Zjdj) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7876/46609504514_84f4483f78_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2e1HTQN)20190308_130438 (https://flic.kr/p/2e1HTQN) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

From that basic template, I poured over photos and found about the areas where I will want the stitching to appear and I drew them out:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7818/32390790627_3cb043db48_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/Rmggzn)20190308_131733 (https://flic.kr/p/Rmggzn) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Once cut out, I was able to cut out the layers of the vest and left lots of extra material for a large margin of error. One thing about me is that I mess something up almost every time I make anything. Whether it's sewing a sleeve on inside out, making pants with no legs (a skirt instead) or something else, I will mess something up. Lesson today was that when sewing vinyl, unless your presser foot is a walking presser foot, when sewing vinyl, put it vinyl side down or the top layer will pass through slower than the bottom layer. I learned this about halfway through, so the back is nice and flat, the front... not so much. I got done and was thinking I may need to scrap it and start over. I had this. I was not impressed:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7837/33456914908_242d465982_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/SYtrbu)20190308_165348 (https://flic.kr/p/SYtrbu) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

But, I was going to lose a lot of material when I made the neck line and arm banding, or whatever it is, so I thought I'd just power through and see what happens. Now, I was stumped again. I bought some rope that I could sew into the material, but I had to noodle it for several days to figure out how to get it to look how I wanted, instead of just looking like a lump sewn under the material.

I came up with this:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7828/32390790307_80c5688411_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RmggtR)20190309_125636 (https://flic.kr/p/RmggtR) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7842/46609502884_24934f6618_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2e1HTmG)20190309_130653 (https://flic.kr/p/2e1HTmG) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

First, I had to use the zipper foot on my machine so that I could get real close to the rope. Then, I sewed the rope into a straight bit of material. Once that was done, I pinned it to the place I wanted it and then sewed the inside again, right next to where my initial seam was placed. Once done, I cut away the extra material on the inside.

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7848/32390788967_c7d035ce5a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/Rmgg5K)20190309_131004 (https://flic.kr/p/Rmgg5K) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Well, now! This is promising!

The jerkin is clipped shut in these photos as I've ordered some tan Velcro that I'll use under the arm and on the hips to keep it shut. The lower Velcro will be hidden by the belt. I'm not too impressed with how it looks on my shoulders but I still need my arms and shoulder armor, so I'm hopeful that the shoulder armor will hide that transition. It seems to on the Gammos I've been stalking. Lastly, the jerkin needs the circular disc piece on the chest and a good paint job.

More to come but tomorrow we get to get Missy rolling on her build! So exciting!

Had an amazing build party yesterday where we got Mac all sorted out so he can troop with pride as a stormtrooper and then focused the day on catching Missy up to where I had gotten. We built her diaper, nappy, flak vest, covered the flak vest, and I had already done the bib and sleeves. Look at how excited she is!!!

Next steps on her will be to add the fur to the diaper and make her suspender system. We can then trim down the vest and velco it shut. Once that's done, she needs her jerkin and we are at the same point. I just got my belt materials in today and my Velcro for my jerkin. I'll add the Velcro this week if I have time but I'm still searching for the right size of metal ring and d ring for my belt, as they need to be enormous! Here are a few pics. If anybody has any ideas, short of starting my own blacksmith shop in the back yard, please let me know!

The lower belt is 3" wide, so that should give you some idea of how large those need to be.

If you think you have what it takes to join Hammo the Gammo (which I'm now calling myself), please let me know. The more we can get in our army of guards, the better!

Progress is slowing down as I wait on my latex parts, but I added the Velcro to the jerkin so that it will seal shut:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7824/46455959235_e93780be23_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dM9Wbp)20190313_120942 (https://flic.kr/p/2dM9Wbp) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

The bottom will be hidden by the belt and the top should be hidden by my arms.

Lastly, the jerkin has a circular metal disk with studs in it. I have been brainstorming how to go about this as it's difficult for me to sew the bumped out portion on a circle. Here was my third or fourth attempt:

Use IG88's neck for the size of the circle I want:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7824/47318167102_4019827e8a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2f6kYxh)20190312_133101 (https://flic.kr/p/2f6kYxh) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Find an old charging cable that isn't used anymore:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7883/40405445663_e1ae637c29_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24yuthT)20190312_144507 (https://flic.kr/p/24yuthT) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Figure out how large the outside section needs to be:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7811/46455960745_c34d135593_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dM9WCr)20190312_145700 (https://flic.kr/p/2dM9WCr) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Glue the charging cable into place so it will stay where I want it when I sew:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7895/40405444893_b9af4836f2_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24yut4B)20190312_154530 (https://flic.kr/p/24yut4B) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Sew down inside of outer circle and cut circle so that it will fold over where I want it:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7913/32429238457_c48a9d8643_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RpEjLZ)20190312_174314 (https://flic.kr/p/RpEjLZ) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Slowly sew the inside again on the back this time but as close to the charging cord as possible:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7895/46455959565_0c072f0b3a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dM9Wh6)20190313_112709 (https://flic.kr/p/2dM9Wh6) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

And, you have this:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7883/40405443333_eb87fcfac3_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24yusAH)20190313_112714 (https://flic.kr/p/24yusAH) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Add leather rivets per the reference material:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7886/47371106821_0b0d7c1432_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fb2iF4)20190313_123113 (https://flic.kr/p/2fb2iF4) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

The rivets are in place but are way too long for this piece, since it's rather thin, so I may see if I can find some shorter rivets or perhaps some split rivets that will work, but it came out pretty good for what it needs to be.

I have my belt material and have verified that the sizes I purchased are correct. Going to head to Tandy tomorrow to pick up the massive D-rings I need and am still working on the front of the belt ring but have a few options. Once all that's done, I just need to paint the jerkin and I think I'm just latex goods, arm and shoulder armor, and sandal straps away from being able to submit for approval. I'll probably use this spare time to come up with my ax or vibro-ax.

Was able to swing by Tandy in Tacoma on my way to ECCC and get the D-rings that I needed for my belt. Spent some time today putting it together. I had previously found this ring on eBay.

I've got some glue drying on some Velcro that'll be what keeps it closed in the front and I need to add a little bit of leather cord here and there but it's essentially done and I'm really happy with it.

While I was at Tandy, I also found better studs for my chest disk. Here it is now:

I reached out to the guy doing my latex and it's supposed to be ready next week. I'm real eager to try everything on with the latex to see if anything needs to be remade or altered. Otherwise, I may paint the jerkin this week and start on the weapon. Kinda running out of things to work on...

Went ahead and sewed my chest disk on to the jerkin and then suited up with everything that's done so far:

Also, I did some searching and think I have a viable axe solution. More on that when it gets here as it will need some customization. Last thing I think I can really do before my latex gets here is paint the jerkin. I'd like it to have a bit of a yellowed, but real dirty, color, so I ordered some mustard colored Angelus leather paint. The CRL doesn't really mention any colors, so I think it will look good and be screen accurate.

I think I'll start working on the chest disk for Missy since that was a real difficult part to do and I can do it on my own. Then we get her caught up next time we meet so we can get two Gammos out and about well before Rose City!

Got my paint in and gave the jerkin a nice, yellow, tint. Here, you can see the yellow going on the bottom and the tan part on the top:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7894/46566944255_8047076b3c_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2dWXLae)20190327_151259 (https://flic.kr/p/2dWXLae) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

It left me with something like this:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7864/47482198601_3445c1f83d_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fkQFoz)20190327_153554 (https://flic.kr/p/2fkQFoz) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

But, I want it to be nice and weathered and dirty, so I did that. Of course, I felt like I did too much and then I toned it down, so now it looks like too little:

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7901/40516174773_116f8a451c_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24JgZct)20190327_161145 (https://flic.kr/p/24JgZct) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

So, I'm going to plan to go over that a few more times and bring it up and tone it down to get it to where I like it. It's a start at least.

Lastly, my latex goods should be shipped this week. Here is proof that they are coming soon!

I think mine may be the set without the mask since I bought that elsewhere. I feel like I'm getting real close!

Also, the post office tried to deliver my mask today but since I wasn't back yet, I'll have to see about picking it up on Monday or Tuesday. From looking at the latex parts, the quality is truly top notch. I'll need some foam in the thighs to keep them with their form, but not too much. I'll need to figure out how to keep the thighs up and the arms on. The shoulder pieces need strapping. The feet and legs need their leather wraps. Also, as I hoped, the feet have no bottom so you wear sandals and they kind of just sit over the top. It'll help once the sweat starts dripping.

So, getting closer, but it's going to have to hold off until after Celebration!
Title: Re: Gamorrean Guard
Post by: CadBane3 on April 07, 2019, 05:39:00 PM
Got a pile of parts staring at me and wasn't sure where to start. Well, I guess I could try on the legs to see what needs to be done.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7817/47560028781_547ee0e7ec_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fsHzAe)20190407_122227 (https://flic.kr/p/2fsHzAe) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Putting on the legs, it became apparent that my fur diaper needed to be lowered to hide the sides of the thighs so that there is no gap. I lowered it and this then made it so that my vest comes only to the top of the diaper. Not specifically a problem, but it does mean that there isn't as much girth around my mid section where my belt is to sit. I have 2 options at this point, 1. I could shorten the belt, but that makes me look like a little bit thinner Gamo, or 2. I could add some extra to my vest and to my jerkin to bring it down about 3-6 more inches to make up for the difference. I'm gonna ponder this for a bit and come back to it.

So, I moved on to the arms. I wanted to try them on to see how my shirt sleeves that I made earlier fit.

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7842/47507075282_eb2ab63947_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fo3bmS)20190407_154503 (https://flic.kr/p/2fo3bmS) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Came out pretty good, but I'm concerned that the part of the sleeves that goes around my shoulder is not large enough. It will all be covered by the shoulder armor, but I think from a comfort standpoint, I may remake the sleeves... So, I'll return to this as well... Pretty happy with how it looks though:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7816/46644412755_8174b3ab6f_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2e4NNR2)20190407_155415 (https://flic.kr/p/2e4NNR2) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

So, continuing to work down my list, I know that I needed to add a way to keep the arms on me. So, I cut the latex so that my arm would fit a little better and then added a few slits so I can add some webbing:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7922/47507074922_29c5191719_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fo3bfE)20190407_163355 (https://flic.kr/p/2fo3bfE) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

And then I added one that will sit on the back of my neck to really help keep them up:

That's it for today. I'll keep thinking about the other parts and what I want to scrap and redo. It just wouldn't be one of my costumes if I didn't rebuild parts 3 or more times!

More wonderful surprises!!! Mask day arrived!

But, back to where I left off, working on the legs. I need them to stay up, which is why I built the harness/suspender system. First thing was to add some Velcro to the inside of the legs:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7879/46852382914_25dcb63775_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2eobH8q)20190408_153841 (https://flic.kr/p/2eobH8q) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Then, I needed to sew some straps:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7878/46852382584_1f7f2156aa_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2eobH2J)20190408_211410 (https://flic.kr/p/2eobH2J) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Using webbing instead of elastic as I don't want them to stretch over time and fall down.

And, boom!

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7911/46660734005_81d9c58026_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2e6fszT)20190409_132116 (https://flic.kr/p/2e6fszT) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Trying them on with the fur diaper now as well:

So, trying on stuff again:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7890/32633749197_fcb74fc291_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RHJuGe)20190409_133625 (https://flic.kr/p/RHJuGe) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Still, like I said before, just not happy with the girth now. The vest ends before the diaper and the belt doesn't sit right. So, going the long road, I decided to add foam to the bottom of my vest to give it more girth and to lengthen it:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7927/47523307102_66a69fa3d5_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2fptnvQ)20190409_140630 (https://flic.kr/p/2fptnvQ) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

I did this on the front and back and then sewed on extensions. Then, I sewed another 6 inches on to my jerkin and tried it all on again:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/7884/40610133803_c076e16283_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24SzxWK)20190409_195953 (https://flic.kr/p/24SzxWK) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

So, I'm really happy with where I am, but there's still work to do. I need to paint the jerkin extension. I want to sew velcro on the bottom of the vest extensions to close it and keep the foam in place. The belt may need to be tightened slightly. I may want to add a few pieces of foam to my flanks, on top of the side Velcro, to help bulk it out. I may need to cut off some of the excess jerkin. The axe needs a paint job. The shoulder pads are just sitting in place as the leather strapping for them is on order but I'm going to use some excess leather and snaps to keep them in place attached to the shoulders of the jerkin. The sandals need their strapping, which is on order and should be here in a few days. I also am just wearing the latex feet over my bare feet, so I need to mount some sandals in there to make it more comfortable to wear. And, I think the back of the head scarf needs to be replaced to match my undershirt and it also needs to be tucked in to the neck area.

Otherwise, I'm really happy with where it stands and will take a few days off to go to Celebration. I'll hopefully be able to come back and finish the last few details and submit for approval and focus on getting Missy caught up. If you see any things I didn't list above that need to be done, please let me know!

Back from Celebration and the Star Wars tanks are fully recharged! I received some feedback, which I agree with, that my Gamo was too thin. So, I made some additional padding to go under my arms and help round him out:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/33755189528_919bed9349_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/TqQaQm)20190417_081721 (https://flic.kr/p/TqQaQm) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/46908218094_87131d284a_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2et7SYW)20190417_124047 (https://flic.kr/p/2et7SYW) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

This actually solved a few problems. It also made it so that my belt fit again and doesn't need further adjustment. After that, I cut where the jerkin came under the belt and painted the newly added on parts. No pics though.

Then, I started working on the shoulder armor. I want it to snap into place onto my jerkin so that it hangs where it's supposed to. So, I made some snaps and straps:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/46716886615_acb1b5fef8_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2ebdfNk)20190416_130654 (https://flic.kr/p/2ebdfNk) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

I then made the leather straps to go under my arm but those are boring and I'll put them on once I get the rest on.

Today, I started working on the sandals, which I figure is about the last part for submission. I added some Velcro underneath them:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/46716885715_eae547f3f8_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2ebdfwP)20190417_131624 (https://flic.kr/p/2ebdfwP) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

And then started cutting leather to build the sandal:

Gonna tighten it up in places and maybe add a little velcro to keep them in place but dang, they look good! So, I would power through and make the last one, but this took about 8 feet of leather. And I had purchased about 8 feet of leather... So, now I'm waiting on ebay again. Hope to have it all done and take some possible submission photos in the next week or so!

In a bit of a holding pattern waiting for the final leather for my other sandal, so I took care of the remaining items I wanted to do before submittal.

The scarf on the back of the neck is supposed to match the sleeves, so it had to go!

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/33776400638_f99d270de4.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/TsGTa9)20190420_104008 (https://flic.kr/p/TsGTa9) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

I added Velcro strips so that the new one will be removable:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/33776400488_6f07a468a8.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/TsGT7y)20190420_113454 (https://flic.kr/p/TsGT7y) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

And then reinserted the foam:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/33776399108_9eaa6f5c39.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/TsGSGL)20190420_113629 (https://flic.kr/p/TsGSGL) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

It'll do!

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/40687298433_0c2d60fdcd.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24Zp3ip)20190420_113812 (https://flic.kr/p/24Zp3ip) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Then, while not necessary for submittal, a Gamo needs an axe! Found a pair of these really neat ones but they look like toys (because they are):

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/40687297563_fa5b1f878c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24Zp33p)20190420_134457 (https://flic.kr/p/24Zp33p) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Started weathering the handle. Weathered one in progress on top:

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/32711230687_0b6f84e51e.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RQzBeZ)20190420_141013 (https://flic.kr/p/RQzBeZ) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

And now Missy and I have a nice pair of axes. One for each of us!

(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/32711231057_b407e7c749.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/RQzBmn)20190420_143025 (https://flic.kr/p/RQzBmn) by Michael Halstead (https://www.flickr.com/photos/150894402@N05/), on Flickr

Thinking my leather may not be in the mail today as I've been out there checking all day. Perhaps Monday and then I can make my other sandal and see where I am regarding submittal!

Decided to use some of this ample spare time to see if I can make this costume a bit more troopable. Anybody who has trooped with me while I'm wearing it is aware that it has about a 60 minute time frame and the heat takes a lot out of me. Since the undersuit is all foam, it doesn't breath and it gets really hot, sweaty, and heavy. So, I was brainstorming ways I could try to improve upon the costume.

So, using corset boning, I made a fur butt structure:

And then the gigantic bloomers:

Ordered some better fur off of Amazon:

And added some strapping:

My main concern is that the corset boning, while holding it's shape, it is still rather weak when pressure is applied, so I installed a steel ring around the waist, so that the belt has something strong to sit on, and the fur butt doesn't collapse. And, here we go:

I lose a bit of the girth in the back, but overall, it fits pretty well and I think it looks pretty good. Will need to try it out at a troop sometime, but since there's no foam down there, the breeze is very nice! Stay safe, my friends!
