Attention SWO Spotters:
Rose City ComicCon is coming up quickly and we wanted to alert you that we will be looking for some help at this year's event. We will be offering discounted tickets to spotters who volunteer at our booth.
Here's some details:
WHAT IS ROSE CITY COMICCON (RCCC)??
RCCC is Portland's premier pop-culture event, Rose City Comic Con is produced locally with a focus on creating a fun and friendly event for everyone! Here's the event website if you want more info: https://rosecitycomiccon.com/
WHEN IS RCCC?
RCCC is a three-day event in 2017! Friday has been added to the fun. Convention floor hours:
- Friday, September 8: 1pm-8pm
- Saturday, September 9: 10am-7pm
- Sunday, September 10: 10am-5pm
PAY NOW
PRICES ARE NOW SET. No new signups for discounted tickets can be accepted now. If you have your own ticket, you're still welcome to sign up for whatever you'd like to do.
Weekend pass (if you signed up for 5+ hours): $35

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR A DISCOUNTED PASS:
5 booth hours for a weekend pass (you can choose to volunteer five hours on one day or spread it out to two or three days)
2 booth hours for a one-day pass (one-day pass will be for the same day that you volunteer to work)

NOW! Signups open for all spotters - minimum shifts only - no extra hours (this is so that we give everyone a chance to sign up before filling the schedule with people willing to work extra time)

PAST - Deadline for shift signup for ticket discount - ticket cost will be posted this day
September 6 - Deadline for ticket payments - if we don’t have your cleared transaction by this date, you will not be getting a discounted ticket - plan accordingly!

A Note Before You Choose Your Shifts
We need everyone to be on time for their shifts and stay on shift for the whole time scheduled. When you're not there for a shift or if you are late, it leaves a hole that someone else has to fill. Please don't be that problem-maker! Build in breaks for yourself when you need them to eat or rest.
How to sign up:
1. Take a look at the schedule sheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VEe42ohP0DfPDPWBTEo7hWY6MvFrewUuM3IiX27UsyI/edit?usp=sharing). Note that there are separate tabs for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday booth schedules (and the Rebel Hunt).
2. Review the Role Descriptions tab to ensure you're familiar with the expectations and duties of each position you want to help with.
3. Decide which shifts you want. You can select from the three Helper/Photographer roles, Entrance/Donations/Line Control, Line Control, and Floater.
4. Reply here with the following information. Please copy and paste and fill in as appropriate.

If you want a discounted ticket through us, there are minimum shifts to fulfill. (5 hours for a weekend pass or 2 hours for a day pass)
Sometimes people like to work more than the minimum.
When signups open, we'll limit signups to the minimum (5 hours or 2 hours) for each person to leave spaces available for everyone to sign up. Then a little later, we'll lift that and let people sign up for as much time as they want, if they want to do more than the minimum.

There will be more info about final cost and payment deadlines as we get closer.
Passes will be distributed at con setup (if you're able to make it to that) or on your first day of attendance at the con. Again, more details to come.

Sign ups for booth shifts are now open for spotters! Check the OP for updates and instructions to sign up.
If you'd like to help with load-in on Thursday, setup on Friday, or teardown on Sunday, you can let us know that, too, but we won't have specific details about those things for a little while yet. (These activities don't count towards our discounted tickets; only the blue shifts on the schedule sheet do.)

Oh I thought I was short an hour. This is mostly likely going to end up being some kind of trial by fire deal for me. I always miss the events due to my work schedule, especially meet and greets. Not this time though. It's my birthday weekend, I still have to work, but what better way to do it?

Is it too late to change my schedule? I am actually unable to attend on friday. I'm totally okay with the one day pass anyway so I believe I have enough hours on Saturday to fill that requirement if that's still a possibility.

Spotters and Helpers - Rose City Comic Con is almost here!
Three things:
1. Please double-check the signup sheet and make sure we have you recorded for the times you requested. I did a big reconciliation today but also want you all to check and make sure neither of us made any mistakes. Mark your shifts in your calendar so you don't forget. If you need to change anything about your signups, that's fine. Please do so as soon as possible!
2. If you'd like to help out more than the minimum you signed up for earlier, reply here let me know where to add you. I've highlighted spots where we really need to fill people in if you want to be really helpful. :)
3. Tomorrow, we're closing the addition of new signups who want a discounted ticket. For anyone who hasn't signed up yet, that means you have about 16 hours to sign up for shifts to get a discounted ticket. If you've already signed up, you're good. Ticket prices will be posted tomorrow and payments will be due no later than 9/6. More details will be posted tomorrow, too.

Parking Cost: On-site parking garage is a maximum of $12/day.
Where to park if lot is full: There is street parking in the surrounding area, as well as additional parking lots that are not affiliated with the Convention Center.

Weapons Policy: Please see the weapons policy according to the event Policies here (https://rosecitycomiccon.com/policies/weapons-policy/)
New Security Check Policy: Please plan for extra time to enter the event and be at your shifts! There are limited entry spots and even exhibitors will have bag checks and standing in line. Please plan for extra time. Lines open 11am Friday. 8am Saturday and Sunday.
This year the event has put in place a bag check to ensure no weapons are brought into the Convention Center. The entrance points for the event will be at the corner of Holiday and Martin Luther King intersection, the North East side of the building. There will be directional signs along with staff on hand should you have any questions.
Entry Points:
• VIP, FastPasses, Premium Pass holder will enter through the VIP security check point.
• Anyone requiring accessibility access will also enter through the VIP Security check point
• All other badge holders, Weekend, Friday, Saturday, Pros, Media, Exhibitors, Guests, and Artist Alley will use the Main GA entrance.
• If you park in the Convention Center garage, please head straight to the garage elevators, we will have a bag check there and route you directly into the convention center.
Point of Contact and How to pick up your discounted ticket(s):
Friday/Saturday mornings, the first hour before the con starts, Harry will be at the bottom of the stairs to hand out badges to those needing them. If you arrive later in the day, please contact the following member(s) during the time when you need assistance. Also, these are the same contacts for specific days/times if you have any issues, are lost, running late, etc. (Put these contacts in your phone now so you have them)

Location of our changing room: We are in the Droid Builders’ room to change in and out of costume (c128). As in past years, it will not be locked. Plan on valuables accordingly. A few tips to help make the most efficient use of the limited space:
• Use only to change. If there are people changing and space is tight, don’t use it as a chill out or social spot.
• Bring a spotter only if necessary for your changing, otherwise, ask non-costumers to stay out.
• Don’t eat messy or stinky food in the area.
• Store your costume bin here while you are in costume, otherwise, please take to your car so we can maximize space.
• Be respectful of other people’s things – don’t sit on bins that aren’t yours and try to avoid moving someone else’s things.
• Pick up any trash or loose items – leave the room cleaner than you found it.

Storage Space at Booth: Please bring something for your personal belongings on your body (backpack/purse, etc) while you are out of costume/not in booth shift. We likely won’t have much room to store much at our booth so don’t plan on leaving things there.
Booth SetUp/TearDown Days/Times: Anyone available for helping is appreciated (especially load in/load out)
• Thursday – 6pm Loading in/Initial Set up
• Friday – 8am Loading in Millennium Falcon/Finish Set up – 8pm Clean up/End of day
• Saturday – 8am Set up – 7pm Clean up/End of day
• Sunday – 8am Set up – 5pm Tear down/Loading out

Tips for Cons
Here are a few tips to help make the Con a success!
• Take some Vitamin C/Airborne leading up to and during the con. Take care of yourself or else the con crud will find you. We'll have hand sanitizer at the booth for you to use, too.
• When you're in the booth, actively interact with the con attendees who stop by or are waiting in line. You're an ambassador for the legions. Show our guests how our group shines!
• Bring: a Water bottle that you can refill and snacks to keep up energy levels and hydration. Layers of clothing when out of costume (sometimes it's hot as blazes, and other times it's cold as ice in big spaces like this). Your feet will appreciate a comfortable pair of shoes for when you're out of costume. You will likely spend a lot of time on your feet at a con.
• Use designated areas to sit, eat, and drink--not the booth. Consider our booth area as a place where we are "on stage" for guests at the con. Please don’t mingle around the booth, it will be busy and we need to interact with the attendees at this time, not each other.
• Have fun! When you're not signed up for shifts, check out the con, enjoy others' costumes, and buy some cool Star Wars swag!

I just realized, for my shift starting on 1 tomorrow, there's a tiny schedule conflict. I might be a tad late due to my miscalculation of transportation. It shouldn't be too long, and hopefully things go flawless and I actually get there on time. I just want to make sure no one's going into chaos on the likely event that I'm a few minutes late.
