I've always wanted to be an Imperial officer or trooper(scout that is). I'm very eager to learn from this community how to make it happen.
A little about myself....
I'm a 27 year old Human Male living in Portland, Oregon.
The first time I can remember seeing Star Wars was in the mid 90s at my cousins house. Then when the re-release came out in 97, and my mom took my brothers and I to the theater and needless to say, I became obsessed. I started collecting everything I could, and watching the movies at nauseam.
I took some time off from being a serious fan after Revenge of the Sith came out, but I always had a deep love for everything Star Wars, including those lousy(from a certain point of view) prequels.
About a year before The Force Awakens came out, the obsession bug bit me again, and I've been back since.
Hope to get to know all of you, and eventually participate in some events!

The best first step is to sign up with the appropriate detachment forum. You can find a list of them here

They'll have loads of information for the specific costume you want to make. If you wanted to go with scout armor, then the Pathfinders are the detachment you're looking for.

Officer will be easier and less expense compared to TB, both are great costumes.

Cosplaysky is running a sale on their deluxe Imperial Officer costumes $30 off, but you'd want to source the hat elsewhere as theirs is not acceptable. http://cosplaysky.com/star-wars-imperial-officer-uniform-costume-deluxe-version-new.html Madighon makes hats locally, hope I spelled it right. Then boots, a rank tile and a belt and that's a good start as long as the fitment is good. I'm leaning towards getting one myself to complement my existing costumes, and then I'll have a black Imperial Officer, Navy Trooper Warrant officer, (the guys you see behind Vader here) (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll150/Dax_Corrin/Navy%20troopers%20with%20Vader_zpszsiuuood.jpg) (http://s287.photobucket.com/user/Dax_Corrin/media/Navy%20troopers%20with%20Vader_zpszsiuuood.jpg.html) but I'd need the non-jodphur style pants as well to complete the look above, and the flight suit version of the Navy Trooper to go along with my main Imperial Gunner costume.
I recommend the Reserve pilot often as a way to get in on a relative budget compared to more expensive costumes, but I've been impressed with a couple of recent Imperial Officers I saw in July, so that's a way to go too.
BUT, being "behind the mask" can be great too, as part of the faceless Empire. So my favorite is my Imperial Gunner, which can be added if you go the flight suit reserve pilot way, and TIE pilot and Imperial bridge crewman... TIE pilot was my first choice but I have a blast as a Gunner.
Long story longer, take your time, come check us out and maybe sign up as a spotter for a couple of events, figure out what you have for a budget and most of all have fun! The smiles you will see on faces is why I do it.
