Hey guys, I'm Chelsea
I'm a tattoo artist in the Beaverton area though I only moved back to Oregon a few months ago after living in Kansas City, MO for the past three years.
I've been costuming for about 11 years, but recently decided to return to my Star Wars roots and have been spending the last two weeks working on Captain Phasma. Figured I'd join the forums to show ya'll some of my progress and generally just have an outlet of like minded people to be excited over this with.
I decided to go a Pepakura route since I am the most familiar with it, I'm nearly done with all of the base portions of my armor, next week I should be starting to fiberglass, bondo and smooth the armor!
Here's a shot of the helmet, as well as a few of the pieces in a test fit!

Very cool! Phasma is a complex costume, so best of luck! If you're going for 501st approval, it looks like the current costume requirement list is still being put together, but it might be interesting to see some of the things they're thinking about here:

I saw this the other day, I believe the gal who had a Phasma at the world premiere put together some notes and ideas in a quick presentation, might be helpful too:

Have fun and I'd love to see progress pictures!

welcome to the forum Chelsea,
Phasma is a good one!
-
Yeah, I've made a lot of armor before but mainly for video game or anime related cosplay so this is definitely a new adventure for me!
I'll be sure to post progress as much as I can, hopefully I'll have it in wearable condition in time for Wizard World

Welcome to the forums!
Good luck with your build.
If you have any questions, then please feel free to ask.

Welcome

Greetings and welcome to the forum!
Captain Phasma, eh? That should be a neat costume! I've been slowly working on a First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter pilot myself, though I'm taking the easy way out and just buying all of the parts from various people who make them. :P
I'm curious, what kind of anime armor cosplay have you done? I've been itching to do a couple armored Gundam cosplays but, man, it looks so daunting. XD I'm a big anime geek.

Welcome to the forums!! I'm excited to see your Phasma when complete. :)

Nothing too gnarly. These were projects I did last year just before moving.
Everything I made this past summer was fabric based because I'm still getting settled back into Oregon lol
the gold shoulder armor and gun are all simple foam work, I did that entire build in an afternoon
and the chest plate is thermo plastic and is a costume I've delayed finishing

The character cosplay looks familiar but I can't quite remember... What is that from?
Snazzy job on the armor, though! Looks nice to me! I made armor once, and only once, but I made it out of craft foam. I probably should have used Worbla or something but I got lazy (and cheap :P). 'Course, I also have yet to finish that armor... And it's not even that much. XD
-
Those are both League Of Legends, female versions of Graves and Darius
and thank you! Yeah craft foam is rad for simple pieces but worbla/wonderflex are really rad for those more complex shapes
-
Ah! Man, I really need to play League of Legends... Can you believe that I never have? So many people I've heard from play it but I never have. That and Minecraft. I think something's wrong with me. :P
Worbla and such would also hold up better than craft foam. And I'm sure that they'd take paint better than craft foam coated in Plasti-Dip (which does paint okay but it chips fairly easily). Ah well, maybe if I ever get ambitious enough I'll remake the bits of armor. Or at least coat them in resin.
-
League really isn't as fun as I used to find it but that could have a lot to do with my grinding myself into the top 5% of North American players just to end up getting my account banned Hahaha
-
Getting your account banned? Wow, naughty. :P
-
I got... a little too competitive and may have spewed some not so friendly messages into the game chat.
Though honestly the toxic poodoo talking is part of what I loved about that games community
-
Oh, naughty indeed! XD Yeah, saying some things like that might definitely get you banned. XP
I remember in my time playing on the Japanese server of the MMORPG Universal Century.net Gundam Online, which had open-world PVP where you could get attacked at any time, anywhere, and if your mobile suit was destroyed you'd lose it completely and any items you had stored in it... The game got pretty darn competitive. I remember the first time I lost my twenty or so million dollar Mass-Production Ground Assault Gundam that I saved up for to a sneak attack by a player in a Dom that I couldn't outrun... I had just got the thing and took it out for a test run, had it for barely ten minutes. That was a bad day, to say the least. :P
I learned my lesson after that and never took any of my expensive gear out into the field. Sometime later I had someone build me a Full Armor Gundam (which was something around a hundred million dollars or so)... I never took that thing out of the hangar unless I knew that my chances of having it destroyed were slim, such as when enemy forces raided an Earth Federation city, and I could go up on top of a building and blast at the enemies from a safe distance while they focused on the players that were on the ground and easier to reach... And then if someone did happen to attack me I'd run like a total coward back to the hangar and stow it safely away again. Oh, good times. XD
