Should we start looking at some timing for an armor party? I won't be able to do much other than basic trimming until I get help with all of the extra fitting and shaping I'll need to do to get it to fit properly. :)
-
I would happily do another armor party at my house, as I am having the same issues with my wife's armor set. I've got everything you need to trim it and shape it, if you want to come by. :) Sadly, we only have Mondays and Tuesdays off right now, but you would be able to come by in the evening, if you like. :)
-
A Monday evening would work.:) Let's sync calendars
:)
-
I'd also be willing to host an armor party for people in the Clark County area.
-
I would be free on February 8th or the 15th, any time after 6 PM. If you have a spare rotary tool, I would bring it. Other than that, I should have everything that we need.
-
Let's plan for the 15th. :)
-
What time? Do you need my address?
-
Yes to the address. :) I have a friend building as well who will probably want to come so I will check with him on time and get back to you. :)
-
Is it possible to switch to Friday the 19th? My friend is a police officer and works at night, but has Friday night off.
-
I work nights as well, and have to work on Fridays, but I don't have to leave the house until midnight or so. What time were you thinking? My address is 1533 NE Thomas St. Hillsboro OR 97124.
-
We could probably be there by 6. I plan to trim the pieces before coming over so we can use the time for fitting the pieces and extra trimming. :)
-
Yeah, I think we can make that work. :)
-
I live in hillsboro also. May i attend? I would love some examples to gauge accurate assembly of this armor.
-
I have room at my workstation for 4 people working simultaneously, and I could probably have 3 more observers. As long as we don't go above those numbers, everyone is welcome. I can provide drinks. :)
-
I get a feeling that armor parties are the way to go... As this will be the first TK for both my wife and I (along with many others) .... If you have another we would love to join if possible.. Any pre party prep work that should be done before one, like trim work or something?
-
I'm planning to get my basic trimming done before the armor party. If you are comfortable with that you should do it. :) where are you located?
-
I would love to observe. I have trimmed down my armor, and have begun to tentativly put things together. I want to better understand the specifics and tolerances before i dive in.
-
You are welcome to come by. I'll be trimming tomorrow. PM me. :)
-
We live in Tualatin... Well.. The good news is that my wife's kit showed up today... The bad news is that it looks like FedEx lost my kit... Already have called them and am working through the red tape with them o. This incident, and sent Anovos an update with all claim numbers involved...
-
Yikes. Hopefully it's just delayed. I'm in Beaverton so not far at all. :)
-
I'd love to join any armor parties. I'm super new and looking for help. I just got the ANOVOS Stormtrooper outfit. Still waiting on gloves and leotard thingy. Email me anytime for any updates :-)

Not delayed... All paperwork says it was delivered on Tuesday at 2:46 pm... The name for the sig and info does not match anyone around me (address was right)... Just have to give FedEx 48 hrs to figure out what happened.. Sent an e-mail off to Anovos informing them of what happened, and gave them all info that I recieved from FedEx so that they can be kept in the loop and advise on what steps they would like me to take.. I am sure I will still get my TK, but maybe just not as soon as I had hoped for.. Plus I have a shadow kit coming latter as well... The quality on my wife's kit looks great, so fingers crossed that everything works it's self out soon..
-
We're they left at your door?
-
Not left at my door.. Was delivered to someone else's house... But they are doing their due dilagence first and I have to just sit back and know that everything will be resolved one way or another at some point soon.
-
Hey guys, I'm new... just received my ANOVOS armor and would love some help figuring this stuff out... any chance I could tag along???
-
Yes! Hopefully soon :-)

Yes Henri, I believe we still have room for another person or two. :) For everyone who is coming, please bear in mind that I only have one of everything: snips, dremel, power drill, heat gun, etc. For folks that are planning on doing some major work, please bring an extra tool or two, if you have some available.
-
Where is this party ? :-) when ?

Friday, the 19th, 6 PM, at my house. My address is listed in this thread.

Thanks for hosting. :)

We will let you know if we can make it..while I don't have mine yet,we do need to work on my wife's suit..
-
No worries. So far, we have enough room for everyone. An extra dremel would probably be helpful, and maybe an armor cutting tool. If anyone has those, please bring them, so we can maximize our productivity. :)
-
I'll bring my tools. :)
-
I have a dremel tool! what type of tool would I need to cut the armor with??? haha! Also thanks for letting me tag along! I'm looking forward to it. I live in Hood River at the moment, so probably wouldn't be able to make it out your way until around 7:00 if that's ok?
-
It's official now... FedEx admits they delivered my kit to the wrong address, and that the driver never followed up with it.. They have since closed my case and will only deal with the shipped now (Anovos) as they will have to put the claim in.. Still no word from Anovos from my original ticket number with them, and the link their system is not allowing me to add more info to my claim number..
-
Boo. That's a bummer man !
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
On a side note.. It was signed for by CHIGHGINNS. In case the kit shows up with someone asking how to put it together..
-
So frustrating!
-
Copy. I will keep my eye out for that or something similar.

Very.. But I have ticket number with Anovos, and will keep you all updated.. I am sure they will make things right, just a question of how long it will take..
-
Henri S. I usually do all of my cutting either with the dremel itself, or with some industrial scissors. It kind of depends on how thick your armor is, and what needs to be cut. And yes, 7 is fine. I'm sure we will probably be working until around 10 or so. :)
-
Sweeeeeet! see you guys there! Thanks again
-
FedEx found my kit (after lots oh hounding from me) and finally got it to me.. If you have room for two more, my wife and I would love to join the build party.. Going to start some trimming this weekend, but the trim to fit is where we will need the most help to be good for 501st approval.

Barclay, yes, I think there is still room, but no more after this. By my count, we have 5 builders and two observers. Not room for any more.

Wonderful... We may be a little late, but not by more then about 30min... We can also bring along tools and such as well, so that more supplies are available for people to use.

Vaughn and I are stil coming as well. :) it will be a full house! I'm only working on fitting the main body pieces though so that should help. :)
-
I will probably be primarily working on my helmet. :)
-
I have a really big pot for boiling water for shaping. Can I bring it?
-
I'll bring booze cause I'm a n00b (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160218/e8fb77ed78be7ba566fe24420be9c161.jpg)

Christina, yes, bring the pot. The one for boiling the water. ;)
-
I can bring cutters, and rotary tools..for folks to use..
-
My wife's Kylo Ren helmet came in the mail today. Might spend some time working on it during the armor party. Does anybody have some bondo they would be able to bring?
-
See you all tonight :) cant wait to get a look at the process.
-
You don't live too far from me so we may get there between 6 and 630 if that's okay. :)
-
Thanks for hosting Wes!
-
My pleasure, it was a good time! Always nice to meet new people within this group! :)
-
Hey guys, bummed I missed out :( work week was ruff and decided to stay in Hood River... Thinking of heading to the event today in Portland though if anyone is going... also let me know next time you guys plan to get together.
-
Thankyou again for hosting.. Lots of good info for moving forward with the mods that will be needed for Valerie's kit.
-
Wes I think I left a few small bags of snap components at your place. Could I schedule a time to pick them up?
-
I double checked the work space, as well as the floor area where most of the armor was placed while we worked, but didn't find anything. Is there a chance somebody else may have taken it home by accident?
-
I remember you pulling those out and giving a pack to your friend and then putting them away.

I found them. :) Thanks!
-
It's so quiet now. :). Are folks still building?
-
Slowly piecing it together. Have everything trimmed out, and almost have the arms assembled. I appreciate the thermal/boiling water trick. I have used it to fit my pieces better.
Ordered the strapping kit today, and working on getting my replacement belt. Received notice my Boots shipped.
The thighs and shins have me worried, but i keep reading.

I haven't even started building yet! I'm inspired by the progress I have seen everyone make.
I encourage everyone looking for help to organize your own build parties!
Getting together to build is awesome, but finding times and places that work for more than a few people can be challenging.
Pick a time. Set something up. Get people together. Share your progress.
The most important thing is to have fun!
-
Any chance anyone wants to organize another get together? Was thinking ahead several weeks as my kit won't be here for another 3-4 weeks. I'm a planner and brand new to this as well, would have put one together sooner but it took 15 years to convince my wife! Some of you have met me before with a send off we did for a Make-A-Wish kiddo at PDX and my daughter and I helped out a the booth at RCCC last year. I'm the one on the right.....no wait, left!

Jim M.
-
I'm always up for hosting an armor party. Maybe this time, my wife can be present, so I can start fitting pieces to her. Sunday or Monday evenings would work best for me.
-
Ok, i am going to clean up my shop this coming weekend. Its a two car garage for just building. I am tentatively looking at hosting a build April 1st or 2nd. I am in the hillsboro area. Is anyone interested?
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?
-
I'm interested. :) I still have the arms and legs to assemble.

If my kit gets here before then I'd love to come if you don't mind having someone new crash your party
. I live just SE of you in Beaverton next to Progress Ridge.

-
I have to work both of those days, but I might be able to come, depending on the time.
-
@han_solo, sorry about that, best days i can do at the moment.
I would be open after 5pm on Friday, and after probably 1/2 on Saturday.
Would everyone prefer to do it in the evening on friday again, or afternoon on a saturday?
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?
-
@jim M no troubles, i am new also. This is my first go at armor.
@sitpadeshu i am nearly down to just the legs. They have me nervous. I think i have to trim the thigh down from the top a little.
The shins are double joined in the front, but i havent managed the back yet.
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?
-
I will probably be done by the armor party, but I can come and help. :)
-
I might be able to swing by on the first after work, how late were you thinking of going if we do it Friday April 1st? I'd love to hang out and work on my Rex build too.
-
@lidocaine - as far as friday night, maybe 9/10pm.. ish...
I am usually in bed early, but would anticipate a much longer evening. I just dont know how long necessarily.
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?

Cool, no need to pull an all nighter, I vote for Friday evening then! I can bring my TK if folks want to use some of it for reference too.

Saturday April 2nd. Yes. :)
-
Unfortunately for me Sat is a no go, I've got a bunch of stuff with the family then. Sounds like Sat works for most of the folks so I'm ok sitting out this round.
-
Luke you have more experience than I do and I'll be done building by then, so if Friday is better for all of you then you should go for it.
-
I could definitely could use an experienced eye on what i have coming up.
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?

I'd like to come and meet you guys, if there's room. Friday or Saturday works for me.
I could also bring my Anovos armor for an example, if people are interested.
-
Well, it seems the most agreeable day is friday. My apologies to anyone who cant make it.
If you can attend Friday April 1st (TFA digital release - and i have a TV in the garage :) around 5pm till 9-10 please let me know if you plan on coming. I will pm you my address.
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?

I just realized my kids have theater auditions on Friday 4/1, so I won't be able to make it.
-
Hmm, sounds I'm the only one who can't make Saturday, so you guys should totally switch the date to Sat.
Daryl and Christina both have great costumes and I think they'll be a great resource!
-
bwahaha like herding cats. OK.
Lets try Saturday afternoon, does that work for most?
say, 2pm - ish till whenever.

Hey guys,
just noticed this thread... I missed last armor party, would it be ok if I joined you guys Saturday? I'll be in Portland area as I live/ work in Hood River during the week... I haven't started working on my kit as I've been nervous about damaging it beyond repair... haha! I have a dremel tool I could bring along :)
-
I think we should have room. I will send you a pm with my address.
See you all on saturday.
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?

So my armor isn't here yet but I've been doing a E-11 pipe build, everything from scratch. No doopy or sterling parts kits (except he the pistol grip, that thing would be tough to do!) I still plan on coming to meet everyone. Was wondering if someone who has an completed ANH E-11 would bring it along so I can take some pictures as well as measurements with my calipers?? If you're wondering why a complete scratch build? Well because I love doing it and I learn so much about the prop from doing it this way. I'm totally going to do a build probably a doopy in the future but that means saving more $ over time and I am ready for an E-11 now.

Jim
-
I'll bring my Doopy's E-11.
-
Sweet! Thanks. Tons of good stuff on FISD and interwebs, but some specific measurements that I just can't find.
Jim M.
-
You probably all already know this but if you are looking for the correct Humbrol paints they are sold here locally at Tammies Hobbies in Beaverton for $2.15 a pot. Here is a guide I found somewhere on the FISD. You don't need to buy both blues one or the other based on your preference, both are acceptable. (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160401/974cc4aed9fd0aef2b5b69be04dc5c49.jpg)
Jim
-
I don't think midnight blue is acceptable anymore, only French blue.
I'll bring my paints tomorrow also.
-
I have some extra french blue humbrol. I had to get the testors grey, but i have both.
Omg bear is driving!? How can this be!?
-
I have two of each of the Humbrol colors, but I only got one of the midnight blue. That chart came from an older post so it could very well be out of date. I like the French blue better any way and that's what I plan to go with.....if my armor ever gets here! I need to be more patient it was just four weeks yesterday and know all of you waited WAY WAY longer, so I'll stop whining now.
I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow even as just an observer.
Jim M.
-
Thanks for hosting! :). It's was a lot of fun and very productive. :)
-
Sorry I couldn't make it, the "honey do" stuff I had this morning took longer than I thought and we had an event started at 6. Next time I guess. Sounds like I missed a good time.

Jim M.

Thanks everyone for coming. Got the help i needed to start wrapping this project up. Hope to see you all soon :)

By chance does anyone have any leftover grey 2" PVC for a thermal detonator? My kit finally arrived today and it came with white 2" PVC. I found the right stuff at Home Depot but I don't need 10' of it. (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160413/ca2bca4580725883b300a8eb49941420.jpg)

I dont, sorry. You could paint it. The UKSWRATH build thread indicates he uses testors #1923.

My kit came with black PVC pipe. Just hit with a few coats of primer grey and it's good to go!
-
It's only $6.70 so I may just get it anyway....that being said if any one wants a chunk I'll have approx 9' of it in my garage! I've got a way to go before I worry about my TD.
I did get forearms and shoulders rough trimmed last night! (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160413/a2b3214517240194b0fed5c49c6b9539.jpg) (the pic was after the first two were done.) was going to start with the bucket but got a little intimidated. Using the Trooper Bay videos on you tube (since I missed the armor party). That guy makes it look easy!

Check out the TK1636 videos on YouTube. He goes into way more detail than the Trooperbay videos.

I'll be working on my armor tonight and all day tomorrow. I have a few heavy duty folding tables and some scrap carpet (to keep armor from getting scratched up) I can set up inside if anyone needs/wants a place to work on theirs. Wife and kids are out of town all day tomorrow. I live in the S. Beaverton area. I have a Treager we can throw some meat on! PM me if you are interested in this last minute offering for Saturday, April 16th.
