Title: Armor party planning?
Post by: sitpadeshu on January 29, 2016, 02:02:21 PM
Should we start looking at some timing for an armor party?  I won't be able to do much other than basic trimming until I get help with all of the extra fitting and shaping I'll need to do to get it to fit properly. :)

I would happily do another armor party at my house, as I am having the same issues with my wife's armor set. I've got everything you need to trim it and shape it, if you want to come by. :) Sadly, we only have Mondays and Tuesdays off right now, but you would be able to come by in the evening, if you like. :)

A Monday evening would work.:) Let's sync calendars
 :)

I'd also be willing to host an armor party for people in the Clark County area.

I would be free on February 8th or the 15th, any time after 6 PM. If you have a spare rotary tool, I would bring it. Other than that, I should have everything that we need.

Let's plan for the 15th. :)

What time? Do you need my address?
Title: Re: Armor party planning?

Yes to the address. :)  I have a friend building as well who will probably want to come so I will check with him on time and get back to you. :)

Is it possible to switch to Friday the 19th?  My friend is a police officer and works at night, but has Friday night off.

I work nights as well, and have to work on Fridays, but I don't have to leave the house until midnight or so. What time were you thinking? My address is 1533 NE Thomas St. Hillsboro OR 97124.

Post by: sitpadeshu on February 01, 2016, 12:38:35 PM
We could probably be there by 6. I plan to trim the pieces before coming over so we can use the time for fitting the pieces and extra trimming. :)

Yeah, I think we can make that work. :)

I live in hillsboro also. May i attend? I would love some examples to gauge accurate assembly of this armor.

I have room at my workstation for 4 people working simultaneously, and I could probably have 3 more observers. As long as we don't go above those numbers, everyone is welcome. I can provide drinks. :)

I get a feeling that armor parties are the way to go... As this will be the first TK for both my wife and I (along with many others) ....  If you have another we would love to join if possible..  Any pre party prep work that should be done before one, like trim work or something?
Title: Re: Armor party planning?
Post by: sitpadeshu on February 02, 2016, 11:39:57 PM
I'm planning to get my basic trimming done before the armor party.  If you are comfortable with that you should do it. :)  where are you located?
Title: Re: Armor party planning?

I would love to observe. I have trimmed down my armor, and have begun to tentativly put things together. I want to better understand the specifics and tolerances before i dive in.

We live in Tualatin... Well.. The good news is that my wife's kit showed up today... The bad news is that it looks like FedEx lost my kit...   Already have called them and am working through the red tape with them o. This incident, and sent Anovos an update with all claim numbers involved...

Not delayed... All paperwork says it was delivered on Tuesday at 2:46 pm... The name for the sig and info does not match anyone around me (address was right)... Just have to give FedEx 48 hrs to figure out what happened..  Sent an e-mail off to Anovos informing them of what happened, and gave them all info that I recieved from FedEx so that they can be kept in the loop and advise on what steps they would like me to take.. I am sure I will still get my TK, but maybe just not as soon as I had hoped for..  Plus I have a shadow kit coming latter as well...  The quality on my wife's kit looks great, so fingers crossed that everything works it's self out soon..

Yes Henri, I believe we still have room for another person or two. :) For everyone who is coming, please bear in mind that I only have one of everything: snips, dremel, power drill, heat gun, etc. For folks that are planning on doing some major work, please bring an extra tool or two, if you have some available.

No worries. So far, we have enough room for everyone. An extra dremel would probably be helpful, and maybe an armor cutting tool. If anyone has those, please bring them, so we can maximize our productivity. :)

I have a dremel tool! what type of tool would I need to cut the armor with??? haha! Also thanks for letting me tag along! I'm looking forward to it. I live in Hood River at the moment, so probably wouldn't be able to make it out your way until around 7:00 if that's ok?

It's official now... FedEx admits they delivered my kit to the wrong address, and that the driver never followed up with it.. They have since closed my case and will only deal with the shipped now (Anovos) as they will have to put the claim in..  Still no word from Anovos from my original ticket number with them, and the link their system is not allowing me to add more info to my claim number..

Henri S. I usually do all of my cutting either with the dremel itself, or with some industrial scissors. It kind of depends on how thick your armor is, and what needs to be cut. And yes, 7 is fine. I'm sure we will probably be working until around 10 or so. :)

FedEx found my kit (after lots oh hounding from me) and finally got it to me..  If you have room for two more, my wife and I would love to join the build party..  Going to start some trimming this weekend, but the trim to fit is where we will need the most help to be good for 501st approval.

Wonderful... We may be a little late, but not by more then about 30min...  We can also bring along tools and such as well, so that more supplies are available for people to use.

Slowly piecing it together. Have everything trimmed out, and almost have the arms assembled. I appreciate the thermal/boiling water trick. I have used it to fit my pieces better.
Ordered the strapping kit today, and working on getting my replacement belt. Received notice my Boots shipped.
The thighs and shins have me worried, but i keep reading.

I haven't even started building yet! I'm inspired by the progress I have seen everyone make.

I encourage everyone looking for help to organize your own build parties!

Getting together to build is awesome, but finding times and places that work for more than a few people can be challenging.

Pick a time. Set something up. Get people together. Share your progress.

The most important thing is to have fun!

Any chance anyone wants to organize another get together? Was thinking ahead several weeks as my kit won't be here for another 3-4 weeks. I'm a planner and brand new to this as well, would have put one together sooner but it took 15 years to convince my wife! Some of you have met me before with a send off we did for a Make-A-Wish kiddo at PDX and my daughter and I helped out a the booth at RCCC last year. I'm the one on the right.....no wait, left!

@sitpadeshu i am nearly down to just the legs. They have me nervous. I think i have to trim the thigh down from the top a little.

If you've still got room I'll join you guys.

I can bring my TK, and some tools, if needed. (Heat gun, soldering iron, lexan scissors, knives, dremel, etc)

Thanks.

Hey guys,
just noticed this thread... I missed last armor party, would it be ok if I joined you guys Saturday? I'll be in Portland area as I live/ work in Hood River during the week... I haven't started working on my kit as I've been nervous about damaging it beyond repair... haha! I have a dremel tool I could bring along  :)

So my armor isn't here yet but I've been doing a E-11 pipe build, everything from scratch. No doopy or sterling parts kits (except he the pistol grip, that thing would be tough to do!) I still plan on coming to meet everyone. Was wondering if someone who has an completed ANH E-11 would bring it along so I can take some pictures as well as measurements with my calipers?? If you're wondering why a complete scratch build? Well because I love doing it and I learn so much about the prop from doing it this way. I'm totally going to do a build probably a doopy in the future but that means saving more $ over time and I am ready for an E-11 now.

Sweet! Thanks. Tons of good stuff on FISD and interwebs, but some specific measurements that I just can't find.

You probably all already know this but if you are looking for the correct Humbrol paints they are sold here locally at Tammies Hobbies in Beaverton for $2.15 a pot. Here is a guide I found somewhere on the FISD. You don't need to buy both blues one or the other based on your preference, both are acceptable. I don't think midnight blue is acceptable anymore, only French blue.

I'll bring my paints tomorrow also.

I have some extra french blue humbrol. I had to get the testors grey, but i have both.

I have two of each of the Humbrol colors, but I only got one of the midnight blue. That chart came from an older post so it could very well be out of date. I like the French blue better any way and that's what I plan to go with.....if my armor ever gets here! I need to be more patient it was just four weeks yesterday and know all of you waited WAY WAY longer, so I'll stop whining now. I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow even as just an observer.

Sorry I couldn't make it, the "honey do" stuff I had this morning took longer than I thought and we had an event started at 6. Next time I guess. Sounds like I missed a good time.

I know that guy now!

I took this while standing in a food line. I was there as a spotter in the Cloud City booth.

By chance does anyone have any leftover grey 2" PVC for a thermal detonator? My kit finally arrived today and it came with white 2" PVC. I found the right stuff at Home Depot but I don't need 10' of it. (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160413/ca2bca4580725883b300a8eb49941420.jpg)

I dont, sorry. You could paint it. The UKSWRATH build thread indicates he uses testors #1923.

My kit came with black PVC pipe. Just hit with a few coats of primer grey and it's good to go!

It's only $6.70 so I may just get it anyway....that being said if any one wants a chunk I'll have approx 9' of it in my garage! I've got a way to go before I worry about my TD.

I did get forearms and shoulders rough trimmed last night! (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160413/a2b3214517240194b0fed5c49c6b9539.jpg) (the pic was after the first two were done.) was going to start with the bucket but got a little intimidated. Using the Trooper Bay videos on you tube (since I missed the armor party). That guy makes it look easy!

Check out the TK1636 videos on YouTube.  He goes into way more detail than the Trooperbay videos.

I'll be working on my armor tonight and all day tomorrow. I have a few heavy duty folding tables and some scrap carpet (to keep armor from getting scratched up) I can set up inside if anyone needs/wants a place to work on theirs. Wife and kids are out of town all day tomorrow. I live in the S. Beaverton  area. I have a Treager we can throw some meat on! PM me if you are interested in this last minute offering for Saturday, April 16th.
