Title: Anovos crew - what else have you ordered already?
Post by: Starrfox1 on May 13, 2015, 01:45:33 PM
So obviously the wait for the BBB is going to be excruciatingly long and arduous... but I decided that it would probably be a good idea to start sourcing all of the extras to satiate my notoriously bad G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

So far I have ordered an E-11 from Germany with a real Hengstler 400 Eagle counter, real M38 scope, and real sterling mag courtesy of Felix over on FISD.

This morning I also PayPal'ed a gentleman in Iowa with a Hyperfirm DLT-19 - which should be here a heck of a lot sooner.

Also eyeing a pair of boots from imperialboots.com

What does everyone else have in the mail?

Hey Chris!

I just got my E-11, unfortunately customs REALLY did a number on it and as such, there will be lots of work to do to get it back to its former glory. I started a WIP repair thread on the FISD, Felix is sending me some new parts free of charge (I tried to send him money so he could get a beer but the guy is stubborn and wouldn't accept my gift lol) -> http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31508-e-11-repair-wip/ (http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31508-e-11-repair-wip/)

Also got my Hyperfirm DLT-19 which came out of the box looking flawless (surprise surprise)

Now I'm actually torn between getting a refund on my ANOVOS armor to get an AP kit, he has a few in stock and says that he can ship within a week... I don't mind the price difference but I really really don't want to wait 8 months to start building...

What do you think Chris? Wait 8 months for armor that nobody has seen in person (and also miss out on the bucket assembly - which I was looking forward to) OR bite the bullet, get a refund, and start building in 3-4 weeks?

Thats great that he is sending you new parts!

I am not familiar enough with the AP kit to offer my opinion, I do always hear good things about it though. From what I have seen, the ANOVOS looks good, but again, hard to say for sure. I tend to be a tightwad so I am ok waiting for the ANOVOS    but I also have other costumes keeping me busy....

What you want, and how long you want to wait are the deciding factors probably. Although I am certain other members around here can inform you better on the AP.

good luck with your decisions, let us know what you decide.

CJ

AP Ordered and on the way! Looks like I just cut my wait time down significantly. I feel bad pulling out of the ANOVOS crew, but I'm sure they have more than enough people already clamoring for a kit. I mainly went for AP because of my body type, I'm 5'11", 140lbs and 30" waist (so I basically have the physique of a really fit female athlete lol) and lots of slender people have said great things about Mark's work. I'm impatient, but I thought long and hard about the pros and cons and I'm pretty happy with my decision.

And now, to the hardware store!!!

The wife came across a pair of Hasbro E-11s (one white, one black) on her vacation this week.  I'm looking forward to getting them in hand and figuring out how to make them approvable.  Droopy Doos has an upgrade kit, but with the extended time I have, I may try to scratch build the upgrade pieces.  I'm sure the TK forums have lots of info on how to do that.

Got two E-11's off the target site (yea, I know rubies bad, but will work until I get a THG or Hyperfirm)... Have taken them apart and cut out all rail and scope areas, along with drilling the holes out on the muzzle.  Will be painting them up and getting them back together soon...

Finished my Doopy's kit about a month ago and today I got my TK boots in the mail from Imperial Boots!

I've got my TK boots and iComm system.

Trying to research and save for an E-11. Lots of choices, trying to find the most bang for the buck.

I have my boots and a new E-11 should be on the way from THG.  I'll wait until I start building to get electonics.  I might buy an ATA helmet too.  I'm making an ESB TK so I already have to buy a new belt, but not sure how easy it will be to repaint the assembled ANOVOS helmet.  I'm planning to buy the iComm, some fans, hearing system, and leg garters.

Hi Guys,

I'm working on my TK kit and haven't bought my boots, what do you recommend that are fully accepted by the 501st? TK boots or Imperial boots? is there any other?

Thank you!

I have TK boots for my classic stormtrooper and Imperial Boots for my First Order stormtrooper and the clone I am working on. The quality of both vendors is very good.

For the classic TK, more people seem to prefer the TK boots, but I am sure the Imperial Boots version would also be very good.

Please keep in mind that no costume, or piece of a costume, is 501st approved. Members are approved based on the final appearance of their costumes. What matters is how everything looks at the end.

Both TK boots and Imperial Boots have been used for 501st approved costumes.

Thank you for your answer MetalJedi, having both which one is more comfortable for you for trooping? I know that TK boots are a little narrow, has this been a problem for you?
Thank you!

I have not had a problem with the width of the TK boots. I went a size up, and they are actually too big. When I eventually get another pair, I will probably order at my normal size. I also don't have particularly wide feet.

Boots from both vendors seem reasonably comfortable for hours of trooping. I have walked the Starlight Parade in my TK Boots three times, and they hold up for a good walk.

Adding a nice set of insoles can make a big difference in terms of being on your feet for a while. You might keep that in mind when you are choosing the size of your boots.

My TK boots are true to size and fit well. :). I haven't trooped in them though
