Starting on this journey to finally join the 501st as a TK (big brown box should arrive tomorrow)...I was reminded of a photo I took last year while at the Clackamas Town Center in Portland (technically not Portland I know).
I thought it was maybe store employees dressed up because corporate maybe bought and sent a few costumes to every store.
Little did I know that it was probably one of you guys from the garrison.

Isn't that Rick, Nick and Chris?
-
Speaking of photography. I moonlight as an amateur/hobbyist photographer. If any of the events need a photographer I would like to help. I am a long ways from finishing my armor so in the meantime I would love to meet other members.

Affirmative.

It's cool to have those "Before" pictures.
I've got one too from about 6 years ago when DST trooped at my kids school. Got my picture taken with Chewy, Boba and a TK. Little did I know those guys would later become great friends....... and that the TK would lose tons of $$ every time he comes to my house for poker

I love those "that was you guys" moments and flashbacks. Especially when you have come as far as the purchasing of a costume of your own. I still smile from ear to ear when Vader or Chewie come out all dressed up and I know who's in there. Doesn't matter, still want a picture.

ah good I will try and make it then. So where is it? Sorry since I cannot access the info I have to ask. Is there a higher permissions on the forums, maybe thats why I cannot access since I'm just a member and not a 501st member? I don't know... thats the only reason I can think of on why I can't access the information.

Yeah, Rob gave you a link to a 501st members only section of this site. Here's a link to the comic book show http://www.portlandcomicbookshow.com/

Tony, yes, the two links you posted are public. However, the second one has only one post, which is a link to the private thread. I'm not sure how that's useful to anyone who's restricted to the public side of things. ;)

Let us know when your kit arrives. Holler if you need help. Lots of good advice resides with this group. Keep eyes open for 'armor parties' in the forum.
Welcome....

Well it arrived last week and I haven't touched it save for cutting/taping one forearm for fitting. I was too busy totally messing up my nice helmet. I will probably keep my helmet for personal display of my failure, and order a made one for trooping.
definitely interested in an armor party in the portland/metro area. I cannot afford to mess up the armor.
Help ME CCG you're my only hope. lol
-
Ouch... Well if it makes you feel any better I think everyone messes up at least one part of their first armor. My husband had to order new thighs for his TK after he trimmed the first set way too short. It's a lesson learned, albeit an expensive lesson...
-
Another good tip is show up to one or two of the events. Nearly every event has someone in armor. Forums are great, lots of tutorials and pictures, but that 'in person' view of how things were done is very valuable. Helped me a lot in putting mine together. Once I was able to see what is behind the plates, it gave me a lot of 'options' to explore and the ability to ask questions on the spot. You will also see how troopers store it, repair kits, etc. All very important too.
I think you will find the troopers here if not able to 'physically' help you, can certainly talk you through it and build a sound strategy for attacking it. Patience and exceptional planning now are the key. In the end you will save time and $$ along with being very happy about your kit.

yea going to help spot for the comic book show this Sunday.
Pictures are nice, but nothing beats holding it and feeling the weight of things. Hopefully I can find someone close enough to where I live to help me out on the weekends (or weekdays).
to be honest I don't really care for the build as much as some people. I just want to wear it! <*insert variations on "patience padawan." here>
