Title: MISSION COMPLETE: 06.04.2011 Starlight Parade
Post by: Zolotkey on January 26, 2011, 05:19:50 PM
THE STARLIGHT PARADE in downtown Portland is coming upon us again on Saturday - June 4th, 2011

This is open to ALL 501st Legion, and Rebel Legion members, and APPROVED GUEST of Legion members.

Im keeping the same rules as before. To keep everything up to par from the last few times.

Event requirements:

1.
Guests MUST BE APPROVED!!  "Johnny-come-walk-in's" that a 501st, RL or Mando Merc member does not know are NOT allowed... even for spotter duty.

2.
Costumes must be PARADE WORTHY, meaning it must be able to withstand a BRISK 2+mile walk and NOT FALL TO PIECES during the parade!!

3.
Costumes should be high quality, like you walked off the movie set... "halloween grade/off the shelf" costumes are NOT PERMITTED.

4.
Costumes should/need to be kept to READILY RECOGNIZABLE Star Wars character types, including Expanded Universe and Canon characters.   Mando Merc's, misc. Jedi, and Star Wars aliens/denizens are TOTALLY cool.

5.
"Face Characters" i.e. Vader (whatever version), Leia (whatever version), etc. need to be approved by CCG command staff PRIOR to payment of the entry fee. (PM the CCG CO, Allan Quick for approval)

6.
As per Starlight Parade Committee rules: NO PERSON UNDER 10 YEARS OF AGE IS PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE (lowered from 12 years in previous years!)

7.
ALL costumes MUST have some form of lighting on them, EL wire works the best, strobes have been used, and chem-lights have been used with varying degrees of success.  EL wire kits are preferred, they're not expensive, and you get the best effects for your money!

The entry fee is $250 for the group, and the registration fee has been $10 per COSTUMED person in the past.  All those who want to be in the parade wearing a STAR WARS costume MUST pay the individual registration fee, those who perform spotter duties need not pay the registration fee. Times are tough I know. So please help with the fee! :)

Payment instructions:

Payments are due on the night of Starlight, Cash is fine. BUT PLEASE PLEASE have it in by March 1st! I am open to alternate ways of payment for those who are not on paypal.

You can send $10 to my PayPal account: Zolotkey@comcast.net

Can you define a "Brisk" walk?

I screwed up both of my knees while I was in the army, and (assuming I have a costume to wear) a trooper marching with a pronounced limp might look pretty bad.

Brisk walk depends on how fast the Rose Festival wants us to catch up with those in front of us. Its not like a walking jog or a power walk. I will say that it is not a walk leisurely around without a purpose.

Official Pace of the Starlight Parade is 120 steps a minute. But half the time like I said before its mainly Walk at normal pace for 5 min, stop, walk slow, speed up to catch up so you walk a little faster, then slow down or stop again. Repeat cycle until after the cameras. :P

Sorry to see your not able to make it Jabba. :(

Payment to secure a spot for the parade was March 1st.  If you haven't paid Nick already do so asap.  He covered the rest himself.  If worse comes to worse pay the night of.

UGH!!! I've not heard from anyone concerning my interest in the walking the Starlight Parade.  I sent the required photos of my costume and have been trying to update it to make it even more appropriate for the requirements to become a full member (very expensive but worth it...I hope)
I will be at Tony's Kingdom of Comics in Keizer Saturday and not sure if I should beg and plead for a "confirmed" member to sponsor me for Starlight or just show up on the night of the event.  Can someone please let me know.
PS Happy Star Wars Day------May the 4th be with you, always!

Is it to late for me to be a back up in the rear as a Vader? It's the Rubies costume (Some improvements) and I did the Star Light in 2009 I have a master replica detachable blade for my belt and I also have one for the show with a blade. If the the group is cool with a late comer than I'd be more than happy to participate.

I am sorry, We will only have one Vader this year. He will be marching in Front and we have a back up just in case he can't make it. Thanks for asking.

Hi All!

I am so excited to be joining!    My love of Star Wars began through my dad taking us to a theater - only to stand in a 3 hour line.....  a long time ago.  Now as a "grown-Up"  he reminds me of how he first heard about Star Wars.

My hubby is very "accepting" of his wife's ideas ... even if there are some eye rolls and Ok honey - what are you up to now and what do you have me wearing this time?   It's OK - I have him turned mostly... yet he still finds it rather amusing that I can quote a line from the movies with a simple 3 second hearing of music out of a scene...

Anyhow, I look forward to meeting everyone and sharing stories!

Cheers!
Macy :D

How long does the parade last? Ron's hoping to get his armor done and approved in time, but I have a friend coming out to visit this weekend that I'm not sure will be eager to spend a decent chunk of her visit time watching the parade if it's too long...

I don't suppose there's anyone who lives out in the Tanasbourne/Beaverton area thats going to the event and would be willing to give Ron a ride?

Ahh, I suspected as much. He was absolutely certain it would be super short since the parade route is only 2 miles or so, but I remember doing the Rose Parade for soccer back in college and I could have sworn it was around a half a day long :) Well, that's actually comforting, it means I will definitely have time to head back home after helping suit him up without spending more time driving than he'll be in the parade :P

Got a bunch of those light up necklace things to have wrapped around. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
