Hi all,
I have recieved a request from my friend Patricio.
Matt,
Happy New Year! Here is another Mascot Night event that I need help in getting the word out. Below is the post I put on DST. Can you post it on your groups for me? Hope all is well. Thanks in advance.
Alright you hockey fans . . . It's time again for The Portland Winterhawks Mascot Night at the Rose Garden here in Portland on Friday March 4th 2011!!!
This event is so much fun. The crowd is always good and eager to get their picture taken with us. We stroll around the concourse generally taking photos and greeting the public as they enter the Rose Garden. After the match starts we then get to wait around either in the wings just outside the seating area by the delicious concession stands or in a dressing room fellowshipping with our mascot costume wearing brethren. That is one of the benefits of The Portland Winterhawks Mascot Night at the Rose Garden - there are so many mascots to take YOUR picture with! If you want that picture with the Duracell battery or Chester 'Cheetos' Cheetah to post on your favorite social networking site, then do not let this opportunity slip by. There are usually games and other surprises during the match they like us to do - including going on the ice if you are willing?!??! Come on out even if you just want to 'spot' the other costumers.
March 4th will be here before we know it so I will post more info as I get it. Please feel free to pass this event along to your other Star Wars groups you belong to, see you there!
Patricio

I assume then that admission is covered... Is that correct?
Also, are we required to get out on the ice at any point in time? Just the thought of slipping and taking a spill in my Vader wracks my nerves.

I'm not involved with this time around, but I can tell you about the couple that I have done. I don't see why it would be any different
* Admission was covered
* Anyone who wanted to went out on the ice....strictly voluntary. Although, they always have Vader as the goalie...... no worries about falling.
I never went out on the ice just because I'm always thinking worst case about things. but it sure looked fun. We need Dan to get back out there again for sure. I have never before seen someone so nimble in armor. he actually slide tackled a mascot. it was awesome

i've been to a couple games recently, and the dancers have these special shoe clip-ons called "ice bugs" that let them stay up on the ice. i actually had an idea that our garrison could go help with a chuck-a-puck event. i know last year the had the Portland Phillies (women's full-contact football team) come and promote themselves by cleaning up the pucks on the ice. i figured if they could do it, why not us? just ask that the money go to our fav charity.

To all,
I emailed Patricio and got the following responce.
Matt,
The admission is always covered for these events. I am not sure what this year's antics will include, however there is never any ice skating required. The mascots sometimes wear skates though. We have only walked on the ice or played the mascots very gingerly. I'll be fearless and wear my Vader, we don't need two. Did this only get posted on Monday? I never heard from anyone besides you concerning this event. If any noobs have questions on the way this goes down, they can refer to last year's Mascot night posts on DST:

I would have no problems showing as Vader, I just want to make sure I'm not going to go down...
I think it would be a blast.
If thats the case you can count me in.

UPDATE:
Matt,
I finally got word back from the contact about particulars to the Mascot Night for the Winterhawks.
Unfortunately there are no parking passes available for this event. You can load in before 5:30pm in the loading dock but after that I would leave a few people there to watch tubs, go park at Lloyd Center or the Lloyd Center Cinemas and then Max over. Or just pay to park on site - no biggie.
We will have our own area for changing. Water will be available as well.
The Winterhawks has also offered two tickets for every costumed member to a future Winterhawks game as their way of thanking us!
Lastly, there is a promo on Thursday, March 3rd at 5am that I do every year and they are looking for costumed people to help with. Let me know if anyone is interested. My guess is the time is earlier than most folks even get up. Let me know just the same.
Feel free to contact me with any more questions.
So does anyone want to help on Thursday?

UPDATE:
I have some updates FYI.
The Winterhawks representative will meet us at the loading dock at 5:30pm on Mascot Night to let us in as a group so we do not need any passes to get in this year. Stragglers will have to call us to make sure we send the rep back out to get them so they do not get left outside. We can then go inside and get dressed to be ready for gates opening at 6pm. We usually mill around taking photos on the concourse and greeting patrons as they arrive. Then the night progresses from there.
The morning shoot WILL NOT be downtown this year and will be held at the Winterhawks Skating Center (formally Valley Ice Arena 9250 Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy Beaverton OR 97005) just East of 217. So those folks that live in the area now have the opportunity to join us for that part on Thursday morning. The doors will open at 4:30am to let us in so we can be ready and dressed by 5am.
That is it for now and I will give you more updates as I get them.

Allan,
There are pictures; I am waiting, for Navy Sith, to get them to me. The only Star Wars represntation, on the ICE, was the friend; who was dressed as a Jedi. I wasn't sure I wanted to go on the ice; maybe next time...
