If these printers could make objects as big as a helmet? People have already made 3d models for lots of star wars stuff in Pepakura....

Ive seen it done locally with halo helmets and they looked HORRIBLE!, But that may be due to the people doing it..........ol tony

Most 3d printers are "cupcake" sized for home use. The tech is on the way for sure.

My good friend just down the street actually has one of these. I've watched it in action and it is pretty sweet. And yeah, it lays plastic down from top to bottom, so you get a bit of a "sand" castle look. But this is new stuff and this is one of those things that "we" are just getting good at and figuring out. He made cubes, just to test, and was thinking dice. I dont know that we'll ever make a TK helmet from this to go troop in, BUT you could make some cool little TK helmet charms or candlestick holders from it! It's all in the programming, and a little finish work. I would love it get into it, but geez, my wife would kill me if i took on another new hobby!

Working in Pep increasingly myself. Most people don't realize it's a stepping stone, not a cheat. You still have to do the work, sanding, detailing, etc to make what you want. I'm working on a set of Iron Man molds from it, and the paperwork alone is nerve-wracking at times.
