Title: MISSION COMPLETE: June 5th, 2010: Starlight Parade
Post by: Stomper on February 28, 2010, 11:09:04 AM
Hey Troops,

It's that time of year again... THE STARLIGHT PARADE in downtown Portland is coming upon us again on Saturday - June 5th, 2010!!

This is open to ALL 501st Legion, and Rebel Legion members, and APPROVED GUEST of Legion members.

Event requirements:

1.
Guests MUST BE APPROVED!!  "Johnny-come-walk-in's" that a 501st, RL or Mando Merc member does not know are NOT allowed... even for spotter duty.  BE ADVISED: Any unauthorized "thugs" trying to crash this event WILL be dealt with... and removed (believe it).

2.
Costumes must be PARADE WORTHY, meaning it must be able to withstand a BRISK 2+mile walk and NOT FALL TO PIECES during the parade!!

3.
Costumes should be high quality, like you walked off the movie set... "halloween grade/off the shelf" costumes are NOT PERMITTED.

4.
Costumes should/need to be kept to READILY RECOGNIZABLE Star Wars character types, including Expanded Universe and Canon characters.   Mando Merc's, misc. Jedi, and Star Wars aliens/denizens are TOTALLY cool.

5.
"Face Characters" i.e. Vader (whatever version), Leia (whatever version), etc. need to be approved by CCG command staff PRIOR to payment of the entry fee. (PM the CCG CO, Allan Quick for approval)

6.
As per Starlight Parade Committee rules: NO PERSON UNDER 10 YEARS OF AGE IS PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE (lowered from 12 years in previous years!)

7.
ALL costumes MUST have some form of lighting on them, EL wire works the best, strobes have been used, and chem-lights have been used with varying degrees of success.  EL wire kits are preferred, they're not expensive, and you get the best effects for your money!

The entry fee is $250 for the group, and the registration fee has been $10 per COSTUMED person in the past.  All those who want to be in the parade wearing a STAR WARS costume MUST pay the individual registration fee, those who perform spotter duties need not pay the registration fee. :D

Payment instructions:

You can send $10 to my PayPal account: tkrewson@hotmail.com (don't worry about the PayPal fees)

Please put 2010 Starlight Parade in the subject line , and include ALL NAMES and FORUM SCREEN NAMES being paid for in the notes section!

***PLEASE NOTE ***

To make it easier to keep track of the money... your name(s) will NOT be added to the roster until your payment has been received!

Lets get rostered up!!

Some sort of lighting/illumination is required to be worn on your costumes for this event!

Don't panic!!  It's really easy to do, but NOW IS THE TIME to get a lighting scheme planned and implemented BEFORE you arrive to this trooping event!!!

For all you Jedi types, an EL Lightsaber will be sufficient, BUT you can do more than that if you want, and is highly encouraged!

For all you armored types, EL wire kits work fantastically, are affordable, don't get hot, and will last for hours and hours with fresh batteries!

For Stormtroopers (TK/TD) we suggest a blue-green EL color run along the lower edge of your chest plates (at a minimum).

All other costume types have more or less used whatever they wanted, as long as they were illuminated!!  For those of you who don't have any idea where to purchase EL wire kits, you can buy VERY inexpensive kit's off eBay.

Here is a link to Portalnd vendor that will ship to you as well.  You should get at LEAST 6' long kits!  http://www.coolightwest.com/rcProd1.asp?id=85&c1=1&c2=30

Here's a couple photos from past years to give you an idea:

Please post any questions you may have here (PLEASE... no PM's!!), and I'll be happy to give suggestions and advice!

Thanks Troops!!

PARADE STAGING INFORMATION

We are number 90 in the parade lineup this year, below is the map showing our formation area.  Two VERY easy access parking lots are marked in yellow at Broadway and Couch.  Also is an overview map of the parade route, formation and disbanding areas to help you navigate your way back to the parking lot after the parade.

We must arrive to the parking lots by 6PM (NO LATER!!), because NW Burnside St. closes down at 7PM. Please do your homework as much as possible to orientate yourselves with where you have to be, and when!!

Here is a mapquest link to the parking lots:

Here is a mapquest link with a SUGGESTED traffic route from the disbanding area back to our parking area, but you can easily cut corners when walking or wheel-chairing back:

Hey Troops,

Just an update, the Starlight Parade folks have cashed the $250 check I sent them... as you can see, there are only 13 registered particpants (myself being one of them), that leaves a $120 gap I am fronting out of my personal household budget (actually more after all PayPal fees are considered).  I know times are tight, but if you are planning on participating in this event please get the registration fee paid up ASAP... if $10 is tight within your budget, put yourself in my shoes with 12x that amount.

thanks!

Did anyone happen to tivo the KGW airing of this? I would really like to see the spot where we walked through.

I think I have some family that did but I have no idea how to transfer it from her Comcast DVR to a computer
