Title: Don't get it wet, or feed it after midnight...
Post by: The Kreator on December 16, 2009, 10:09:51 PM
Some of you may have seen these on the RPF about a year ago, but I acquired the molds a while back and have been working on them off and on in my spare time.  I'm hoping to get the process of casting the pieces down a little faster without having to bake the molds to accelerate dry times.  Tinting the latex properly will save some time too.  As you can see from the second picture of the "naked" mogwai in progress, his natural skin color is a bit too dark so I had to paint over it.

Oh yeah, you can also see the second one has different eyes.  I used glass human eyes, which look somewhat creepy I think compared to the first one.  Also, they look buggy because I put them in after casting and foam filling the head.  Next one I'm going to put the eyes in the mold first, then cast and fill so they'll be properly inset.

I was thinking about trading a few after I get the process down a little faster.  The polyfoam I'm using to fill them with is somewhat inconsistent, so I'll be testing out a new brand soon.  Might even go for a self skinning foam (similar to a Nerf football) so he'd be squishy and soft.

Yep, I was thinking of doing some weird ones with the various crazy muppet furs and other animal variety furs available.  Probably try out some different eyes too.  Van Dyke's Taxidermy has a huge selection of stuff that works great for these kind of projects, and the fur shop, Mendel's, where I ordered the Gizmo and Wampa fur has just about any fur you can think of.

Yes!  That's definitely a good idea.  I also need to find one of those cheap pink Barbie Corvette's like he drove in the toy store.

Check these out. Some good ideas. PM'ed you with link for pics. Also, I have heard from a friend who is really big into the Gremilns movie, that it is kind of hard to find that car.

Those are great!  I love the paint job on the last pic, especially the ears.  I need to brush up on my airbrush skills to do that.  You can't see from the low res phone pics, but the ears do have vein detailing, so it would look great with very lightly airbrushed color on there.
