As some of you know, I can be rather injury-prone, and having a job as a Martial Arts Instructor doesn't always help.
On Monday night during Jujitsu class my shoulder dislocated. It poped out then went right back in. It was painful to be sure but I got on ice and Advil right away. Over the last couple of days I have experienced a severe loss of mobility, and there are some muscles in my shoulder/rotator cuff that don't seem to be working, or even there.
I had a student of mine, who is a doctor take a look at it, and he gave me some stretches and exercises to do to try to losen it up and regain mobility... they have helped but I still have a severe loss of mobility.
I am scheduled to meet with a surgeon on Feb 5th, to do X-Rays and maybe a MRI, to see if I need surgery.
As such I will not be armoring up for the Winterhawks game, and maybe unable to attend events for quite some time.
I'm really bummed, and albeit a little nervous to see what the doc says... so keep me in your thoughts

Paul, My word.. That is a BUMMER. I injured both shoulder rotator cuffs 4 years ago . One shoulder more than the other and took me a while to heal completely. I did not see a doctor because I had no insurance. Paul I am glad you are seeing a Doctor. This will speed the recovery. Our thoughts and prayers for a Speedy recovery. Come out for support of the events , You have alot of support here Paul.

I still plan on being at thw Winterhawks Game for sure! My armor just puts a little too much weight on my shoulder to gear up for it.
I had my appointment moved up to tbe 5th, which is good - I'm just going to be playing by ear until I figure out what's going on.
Sadly, I have some bruising that's consistent with a tendon snapping or a muscle tear, so I want to get it checked out ASAP while everything still has it's elasticity.
Thank you all for the support
-
dude!!!! that sucks. I will send you some healing forces
-
Ouch! sending a prayer your way dude, heal fast

Dude, that is crazy. I was just thinking the other day, "If Paul had a dislocated shoulder and lost some mobility in his arm, I bet I could take him if I had a club and he was tied to a tree." I fear my thoughts may have done this to you. I am sorry for that. I hope you get better.
If this "Doctor" you are seeing is named Nick Riviera, don't listen to him!
-
Hey Paul, our best wishes are with you for a speedy and complete recovery!

That sucks. I just recovered from a similar injury and was off work for a month. The Doc finally released me back to full duty on 01/15.
I dislocated my shoulder on 11/11 at around 1030PM. I had left over vicodin that let me sleep, by the next morning I was numb to the elbow, by that afternoon my whole arm was numb (numb doesn't mean pain free with nerve damage). After many visits to the doctor and a ton of pain meds they figured out that I damaged the brachial plexus nerves. On a scale of 1-10 the pain was at least a 15. Broken bones are nothing compared to nerve damage. I could do nothing but lay down. My right arm was useless. The nerves heal from your body out to your extremities so my hand is the last this to heal.
My right hand is still not normal. The sharp extreme pains are gone, but its still half numb. The doc says the numbness may never fully go away. Its odd trying to write when you can't feel your pinky on the table.
So I guess my point is that I hope you don't have nerve damage, but its fairly common with shoulder injuries. If you do have nerve damage expect to be fairly useless for 6-8 weeks. Try to avoid Oxycontin because the withdrawls suck. And lastly try to milk the injury with your girlfriend
Nerve damage could also explain the lack of mobility. The nerves have a lot to do with muscle strength and mobility.

Dude, that sucks. I'll be saying some prayers for you.

Hoping & praying for a speedy recovery.

Well I see the specialist tomarrow...
So I should have an idea for how long I'll be out

Good News!
At Best I severly strained the muscles in my shoulder. At worst I have a small tear in one of my muscles.
Long story short, I've been cleared for active duty and should not be needing surgery!

AWESOME paul good news!!!
