Title: MISSION COMPLETE: Oct 18, 2008, Saturday,6th Annual Pig Bowl Flag Football Game
Post by: tavrikgannon on September 05, 2008, 09:31:05 PM
I got the following request for an event. I am putting it out there for everyone to take a look at (which is why it is in the public section). This is a Saturday, let's see what we can do, rally up troops!

2008/6th Annual Pig Bowl Flag Football Game
Location: The Dalles, Oregon at The Dalles Wahtonka High School (Freshman Campus)
Address: 3601 w 10th St. The Dalles, OR 97058
Date: 10/18/2008 (Saturday)
Time 7 PM (1900 hrs) Try to be there by 6 PM (1800 hrs)
For: Brandon Walter Family. He is a Goldendale Reserve Officer that has been battling Cancer for a while and has been off work etc. To make it worse his 8 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with some form of lymph node cancer and shortly after that his wife was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Please understand that for The Dalles this is a pretty big event.

1) Contact an Outside Entity:
Rattlehead

2) Determine Security Issues :
There will be a decent amount of Law Enforcement present since this is to benefit a Reserve Officer. Honestly, security will not be an issue. If something we to arise then contact Rattlehead.

3) Communicate the Event Information to the Garrison/Legion :
Can anyone head this up and coordinate with Rattlehead?

4) Arrange for Water :
As soon as I know how many are going to be there I got you all covered.

5) Make Food Arrangements, if possible :
There will be Pizza sold there for a $1 a slice to raise money. Please help out! Sometimes there is Pizza left over and you are all welcome to some if there is some left over.

7) Arrange for a Handler(s) :
Security is not an issue in my opinion. We have several staff members around handling all aspects of the event.

 Backup Trooper :
? I hope there will be no one left to be back up as everyone will be there.

9) Contact the local press :
This has already been taken care of on a local aspect. If you can contact more news down there is Portland then awesome.

10) Be Early :
6 PM(1800 hrs)

11) Supervise Trooper Activity :
There will be several people at the event to inform who ever needs to be notified that someone has crossed whatever line it is that they have crossed.

12) Post a Follow Up & Thank You :
I hope to be able to do this! Meaning I hope someone is able to come by and hang out with us.

13) Notify the Command Staff About Problems :
Let Rattlehead know of any problems or your Commander.

 ROSTER:

Bill - Imperial Officer
Kyle + boy - Clone Trooper
Rick - Vader (possibly)
James + family - Sandtrooper (possibly)
Matt - Spotter

 - edit - roster update

I'm new on the boards here but after seeing all the cool things that the garrison has accomplished I had to ask for all of your help on this.

I have been heading this event up for the past 5 years and I thought it would be great to get the garrison involved.

I'm hoping to have some of you show up and help with a few things initially when we do the escort entrance where we drive the recipients out to the field where the game is being held and have some troops with the escort group and also I was hoping to have some of the troops be our color guard. If the garrison has some flag that could be carried with the normal color guard that would rock as well. After the opening ceremony, the game will start and I was hoping the troops could be around for some photos and maybe we could raise funds that way. Just an idea.

I hope some of you can make it and I need to know in advance so that if no one is going to show I can go with an alternate plan.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm really wanting to have some troops there to help us out!

Thanks all!

Long live the Empire!

I will try to make this one, as well. Jason indicated that he was willing to do this as Vader, if you'd like. I will be doing some Imperial costume, not sure which one, yet. Provided nothing bars me from attending this event.

I would also encourage folks to carpool as much as possible. If it is the distance that is hindering folks, then let's put our heads together and come up with a carpool that will benefit everyone and be easier on the pocket book for all parties involved.

I might be bringing the family out for this one myself.

Well, the plan is to bring in the family on an old style fire truck and I thought it would be cool to bring the Garrison group on the Fire Truck or possibly a police vehicle. Still working on that.

I'm getting on the radio soon and want to be able to tell people some rough idea of how many are going to be showing up so that they can bring the kids down and meet some troopers.

Let me know as soon as you know who is coming on down. If you decided later of course that is okay as well. Just trying to get numbers.

Thanks to all those coming down to The Dalles! I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

Kyle, if you want, we could always carpool. I could just wear the Imp Officer uniform so it won't take up so much space. Just an option.

Can I just say without sounding to corny that I am super thrilled that you are all coming to the event.

I have been telling my kids that Lord Vader will be at the event. They are super excited.

Note: I am trying to lock down the use of the school's locker room for you to use.

I'm getting on the radio soon. So let me know what characters are actually going to be there as soon as possible.

So I can say, Vader, Imp Officer and 2 Stormtroopers or whatever.

I will be suppling you all with water and will try to square some pizza away for after the event to say thanks.

Later, Rattlehead/Curt

Okay!

I have two options for you guys.

#1 Be brought out with our family that we are playing for either in a pickup you would stand up in (there will be rails to hang onto) and then step down via some stairs or a mini van. (I'm not sure if all of you can sit due to costumes, however this is the safer option?)

#2 Walk out onto the field from behind the crowd, there are some stairs to negotiate. Not to bad but still. I wanted you all to know.

Let me know what works better for you.

Okay, I will set it up for you to come from the locker rooms at the school out to the field via the stairs. I will probably come and get you and then your spotter can lead the way. I hope to get you some music as well and that should not be a problem. "Imperial March" of course!

"Imperial March" of course!

To all,

I have the Imperial March* on an "iPod" type of device.  All I need is an input; for 1/8" phone plug.

*I have the "traditional" version or the "rage" version; as heard, number 03, here (http://galactic-voyage.com/Music-Force%20Commander.htm).

Anyone else want to do this event, please sign up.... consider this my Allan-style bump.

Oh wait, don't I actually have to say BUMP?

Does this count as me bumping an event twice in the same post without setting or spiking?

We still need a Vader. Jason, are you still up for doing Vader? Let me know.

Still advocating carpooling. Rick had mentioned that he'd like to do the event but his car isn't working the best.

As it stands, Kyle and T'igor, Matt and myself are on the schedule. Kyle has an Outback that is actually quite roomy. I have a 1988 Blazer S-10. I can take one passenger (if I am packing two totes), or three people with one tote.  I suspect that Kyle is able to do the same?

Let's plan on carpooling and helping out with gas to get to this event. And by all means troopers, please sign up!

Bill,

FYI my Camry (Sp?) can fit 4, comfortably; 5 if we use the back middle seat.

Since some of us have totes to haul that was the reason why I mentioned the Outback and my Blazer. I know that you mentioned being interested in carpooling. Both Kyle and I offered up carpooling to the event.I just assumed that you would ride with someone. That's what I get for assuming...

Kyle will have his son. Rick can ride with either him or myself. You can with ride him or myself. Or you and Rick ride with me and Kyle just goes with his boy.... whatever the logitics, either way, it doesn't matter. Between Kyle and me, we will make sure everyone gets there.

I can fit one more with a bin in my car, it just gets a little creative. Me driving, whoever is carpooling in the passenger seat and T'Igor in one of the back seats and the other would be folded down.

Soft costumed folk are welcome as well since their bins usually aren't as large. So if I could give a ride to two s.c.f.s (acronyms rule).

To bad you are not going to join us XO.

Okay, do we have numbers for who will be in attendance yet?

Also how should I list you in our program? Cloud city Garrison out of Portland of the 501st. Star Wars - Cloud City Garrison.

Also and this of course is only for people who wish to attend. I did not want to be rude and I know you all will probably be wanting to get back to Portland but I wanted to say that there is an after game party that is only a mile away from the game location if anyone wanted to attend. No pressure but I want to invite you all.

It is getting to crunch time and I'm stressing so keep that in mind, please.

The first post has been updated with the most current roster, to date.

Unless someone has to back out, looks like Matt is spotting and Kyle, James, Rick and myself are costuming.

We are Cloud City Garrison, local chapter of the 501st Legion servinf Oregon and SW Washington. I think anyway you spin will be fine.

There is a guy in White Salmon that has applied for 501st membership. The GML up at Titan felt he should be with our garrison, instead . So, I will follow up with him to see if can make it. I believe he is applying as a TK.

I will keep you posted.

In the past we have had the game go as short as 105 minutes. We have 4, 15 minute quarters and it is running clock till a score, or 2 minute warning of each half. The last 2 minutes is standard NFL time keeping rules.

Thanks for the roster update.

So my guess is that you all could be gone and out of The Dalles no later then 2115 hrs (9:15 PM).

Just wondering:

1) Has there been discussions, in areas of this forum I am not aloud, about who is carpooling with who? If not I volunteer to go with Bill, he knows were I live; or I could go with what was decided.

2) Is it OK if I bring the music, Imperial march?  If I can, should I bring the traditional, or the Rage version?

Oomar Galor, yes please bring the music. I would prefer the original "Imperial March". I hope to figure out tomorrow what kind of hook up we will need to pipe it into the PA system if that is possible at all on the system they have. We may just have to kick it over some speakers and put a mic up to it.

ALERT!!!

I read the article in our local paper today and the town is buzzing about you guys coming down to The Dalles. My kids inform me that several of their friends will be in attendance to see the Star Wars guys and gals if they were to show up as well.

Really hoping as many of you as possible can make it.

Really, really hoping the other two "maybes" show up in Vader and a Sandtrooper attire.

Peace out and have a great day.

I wanted to tell all of you. The way we do this event, people and businesses are aloud to purchase touchdowns prior and during the game.

$50 = 7 pts.

So the the current score of the game is 436 for the Oregon Team and the Washington Team is at 203.

Yes, quite a bit lop sided but it is all good. Those totals roughly come out to $4500. Not bad for a game that has not even started yet.

Again, thank you all for your help in raising funds.

Well, I think it went quite well. With the Mission complete I must say I was most impressed by everyone in attendance.

I want to give a special shout out to Bill. Thanks man, you being my go to guy I really appreciate all of your efforts to make this event a success.

Kyle, sorry you couldn't make it to the party afterward,(hope the family gets to feeling better) the other guys I think had a good time. It was late but I'm glad you guys hung around. Also Kyle your Clone Trooper suit looked killer!

Rick and Matt thank you again.

Vader was a big hit, my son was thrillled but even more so was my brother-in-law. He was half freaking out and got a photo with you guys. Today we had a b-day party for him and they had the photo from last night on display. It looked awesome.

Not everyone there was as big a Star Wars fan as I am so I must say Bill as the Imp Officer you looked great man. Also just so everyone know even our announcer had to give Bill a little love by saying, "Yes, the Imperial Officer leading the way not to be left out as one of the first to catch Darth Vader's wrath.

The cooperation of the Cloud City Garrison and 4 of you that I met last night for the first time just reassures me that this is something I very much want to do. I even have my brother-in-law talking about it.

I was asked by one of you last night what I wanted to do and I'm still leaning toward Biker Scout however, I'm stating to think about other options after last night.

Peace out for now and I will get back to you all on an amount that we raised and photos from the event.

Myself and Trooper Holloran went to see the family today and we handed them a check for $8713.

Hopefully that can go little ways to paying some bills putting gas in the rig to get to doctor's offices and food on the table.

Thanks again all and I won't be a stranger around here.

I have to say that was an awesome event and I was glad to have been there. Hanging out afterward was pretty cool. I hated to be a party pooper, but I had to get Rick and Matt home at a somewhat decent hour.

Who knows, maybe next year the 48 Hours of Bill will really strike and go up to that announcers booth!

I am glad that we were able to contribute in some way to helping that family out. Thanks for having us out there in The Dalles!
