Post by: Pepito on April 25, 2008, 11:25:13 PM
My XBOX 360 died tonight - 4/25/2008

I'll need moral support over the next few weeks guys, especially with GTA 4 coming out this tuesday.

I feel somewhat responsible, as I was the last one to play it....the poor thing couldn't take the strain of Meeko's terrible guitar on Black Hole Sun.  Not even my awesome drumming could save it.  :(

Everybody I know that owns one has had to ship it back.  Don't feel to bad the turn around on mine was only about a week.  Mine died about 2 weeks after the warranty expired.  1 more reason to hate microsoft.  My Wii broke too, but nintendo was much better to deal with.  They sent me a brand new Wii then I shipped my old one back in the same box.  No wait time, it was nice.

UPDATE:

After searching for the phone number to call, my box is past warranty, but I heard Microsoft made some extension, I found a trick to get some more life out of the dead system.

I wrapped the XBOX in a Towel for 20 minutes while powered on, then rebooted it, and IT WORKED!!!

I hear that this doesn't get much more life out of it, but it let me play it tonight :)

I'm calling microsoft in the morning.

I guess Douglas Adams was right, the most useful thing in the universe really is a towel

Xbox 360 extended it to 3 years.  All you have to do is call them and they can tell when it was manufactured by the serial number.  It happened to about 8 of my buddies and they got a brand new updated one in about two to three weeks.

Nintendo Wii... The arch-enemy of the couch-potato video game player.

If you ever get the Zelda game, though, don't post it or my wife will become your new best friend...

Since I have been spending alot of time on the couch the xbox 360 is getting a lot of use.
I just picked up GTA4 today and I've never seen a game ship with more bugs than this one.
The very first quest, leaving romans appt, I fell through a wall. Inside of five minutes
I have gotten stuck, and even drove down the street, but couldn't see the car.
Talked about rushed. On the other hand.... I've been racking up some paragon points playing Mass Effect.
That game is a lot better I think but who knows........

My roommate suggests get yourself a laser cleaner for your X-Box. Perhaps the "heads" need to be cleaned. He got his copy of GTA4 and hasn't experienced any of the issues that you describe.

I'm 10% complete with my GTA4 and it's playing great, even on my towel fixed 360 (which I send in Monday)

Another officer talking out of his ***.  Bill have you even heard of the "Red Ring of Death"?  A laser cleaner won't fix that.     It's like washing your truck that won't make it run. LOL

I believe the info Bill left was for me. Not for Pauls Red ring of death. And the towel method worked for quite a while for Eddie.

You see how my post came directly under Cooter's there? Yeah, the comments were directed toward him as he was describing glitching problems with the game, itself, not a system collapse like Paul's Red Ring of Death!

Do try to keep up, Sandy!

Just curious bro, but did they send you a brand spanking new one, or a rework?
If you don't know how to tell, pull of the face plate and look at the serial number.
Let me know if it has a big black dot (solid circle) at the beginning or end.

Which means what?  My buddy just got his "new one" and I would like to tell him.

Well under the faceplate is a white sticker that has numbers, or maybe it just says Microsoft (I can't recall exactly,) and it is the warantee sticker.
If its a clean sticker, ie no black circle, it is an original, unmodified by Microsoft, XBOX 360. If it has the black circle it is a reworked, by microsoft, Xbox 360. The only reason I ask is Eddie, a friend of mine some of you have met, had the Red Ring of Death problem. He sent in his 360, and they sent him back a rework. After about a month he had the RRD problem again. This was almost a year ago so I dont know if Microsoft has gotten better, or just replaces them all now with new ones, but I was just curious to know if they still sent out reworks.

Hmmm, I'll have to go home and look. Via the information provided I believe it to be a New Xbox Arcade, they also threw in 6 months of Xbox live Gold :)
