Title: I need the events coordinator to PM me
Post by: Daverian on February 28, 2008, 08:33:36 AM
I have a great idea for an event.

there is no events coordinator as a title.  That would be the person who makes and maintains an event.  That would be you in this case.  Post the idea, get it rolling, and run the sucker.  But do it in the Events Planning area, that is where this sort of things goes down!!

There isn't one yet.

I hope we don't make one or get one.  That is something the members should be responsible for on their own.  The last thing we need is more plumbing.  The members need to be able to do this kind of thing and not rely on someone to do it for them.

True but it would be nice to have a kind of a goto guy.  Not that coordinated all events but was a person of help.  You know, give Allan a break once in a while to plugging his events.  A guy that newbies and future troopers could go through to find out about events.  That thing.  It wouldn't be a "in charge of all events" guy.  A helpful tool to use.  IMHO

Hi guys,

Thought I'd provide a helpful template for event coordination.

What: [Title of Event]
Where:[Address]
When: [Date] from [Start Time] to [End Time]
Details: [Anything about the event that needs to be shared]

Also, since the roster isn't working (boo-hoo), perhaps the event organizer should be in charge of updating the first thread with an active roster.

Last, but not least, in order to make the event easy to find, the subject should be put into the following format:
[GROUP NAME ABBREVIATON] - [Date] - Event Title
...and added to the calendar.

Like this:
[CCG] - 06/02/2007 - Starlight Parade

As always this is open to improvement, but the beauty here is that we can post events from any group here and utilize the calendar and forum functions.

I don't know... I think it would be kind of nice to have one guy in charge of acquiring, implementing and executing events. You say we don't need more plumbing, I say it is another tool that makes this a more efficient garrison, in my humble opinion.

Make it an unofficial title or whatever. It's not like the position has to be an Administrative position, although I can see some benefit to it. But, again, that is just me...

I don't like the "One guy in charge" that is a ton of work for someone.  Now a "go to/go through" guy is something that I can get on board with.  A liaison of sorts.  This is, after all, a volunteer costuming group.

Why can't people be accountable for themselves?  If someone asks me or you or anyone that is seasoned here, would they not help and give out the ideas and the advice?  I am tired of appointing watchdogs to things when people are quite capable of doing things for themselves.  Just because someone doesn't know, understand, or is lazy doesn't mean we need another official/unofficial person to regulate them.  Regulate yourself/ourselves!!

Martin speaks truth.

I'm not an official 'event organizer' but I took the initiative to set up the whole DCH troop. Communicated with DCH several times, started the thread, opened a poll, communicated the protocols put forth by DCH, communicated with everyone who had questions, posted event data, provided a map and asked another member if he could take 'point' at the event itself. No one asked me to do this. I knew it was time for us to visit the hospital, so I just began the communication.

We all have the ability to do this. If I had a question about how to poll, proper place(s) to post, etc. I just asked one of the admin. folks, or whomever might have the answer.

It's fun! It's easy! It's helpful! 8)

If you've got questions, there are quite a few folks who have been on for years and are willing to give assistance! Heck, I'm "Uncle Barry" and I still have to ask once in a while....

If you're interested in doing an event, be the liason but you've got plenty of help, here.....

Phew - going back to take my nap, now.....

This is going in the wrong direction.  Barry I applaud you for taking the initiative and organizing a great troop.  I UNDERSTAND what an organizer of an event does.  What an "Event Coordinator" job would involve is when we get requests for troops, NOT drum up troops.  Why would someone replace Barry when it comes to DCH?  Why would someone take the reigns away from Allan in ALL his Salem troops?  There isn't any reason to.  What an "Event Coordinator" would be is a go to guy to help drum up support for said event(s).  Or when a Noob want s to troop they know who to go to.  Now this is something we can obviously discuss among the Admins but I don't want people to think an EC is someone who comes up with every troop we do.  I am not leaning either way but just so its clear what I see a EC does.

Point well stated... By the way Rob.. its Eugene Events ..   :P Peace, Allan

It seems to be doing well the way we have been going about it..
This will also allow others to step up and get an event off the ground... Asking questions and asking for help.. Don't feel like you would be a lone ranger... advice is free to those who ask...

Valid points,  Rob. Under that thought process, this kind of sounds like something that a PR guy could/would be doing anyway....

Could be. Let's get the PR guy in on this?

All good points.  :) Before anyone goes making 'motions' for an EC (Not literally - manner of speaking), let's hear from admin. re: PR person.

Okay for the time being there will be no Event Coordinator. But for all you people that want one. Watch out as things develop. I am still trying to get input and in my pro-con stage. :)
