Title: Ebay king strikes again.....
Post by: tavrikgannon on November 04, 2007, 08:31:03 AM
Look what I picked up on ebay. I don't even know why I got it. It just looked pretty cool.

Why do you do this Bill!?  That is a pellet gun with a scope on it.  We could make you a better Naboo weapon then that one.  Holy Crap!

looks cool to me. too bad it isn't a pellet gun. The idea of our weapons actually being able to fire appeals to me (airsoft, nerf guns, water guns and paintball prefferably) Althought that function might prove to be a handicap when doing events, but we could jsut leave them unloaded, and plugs in the barrels

It looked cool...... besides, fearless leader, that isn't a Naboo gun. It is the Skiff Guard gun Han uses to shoot the sarlacc tentacle that was wrapped around Lando's leg!

It was the geek in me coming out!

oh dear god help us all from the geek coming out....and on the usable weapons, that would be cool....but sometimes I thing the temptation to pop the kids might win over some people...

Eh.... it's a show piece. Sure I should have not bid on it, but I just thought it was pretty cool. I mean I should be focusing more on the DLT-20a for my Storm Commando costume. But all will come together in due time!

Well if it was a nerf gun or a water gun it wouldn't be so bad... water gun would be the best, especially for summer marches ;)

Personally, Bill, I happen to like that gun and I don't think you paid too much. There. I said it.

I know how that feels when the geek comes out,My mum works at Target and when I go to visit her I have to resist the urge to go look in the Star wars action figure aisle

((Although I did manage to find one of those Stormtrooper action figures made to look like the concept art from the first movie, comes with a blast shield and lightsaber Whoo hoo!))

And that's an interesting purchase,I could see the TIE pilot's using that as a survival pistol

Actually, it did turn out to be a pretty decent little prop. I am happy with it, even if others don't like it. But whatever, I really am not interested in what others think of it.

However here is the latest and greatest of the ebay king...

Just won this on ebay Friday! Woo hoo! I am rather excited...

I'm afraid I must agree with Kyle on this one Billiam....

LOL... We shall now call you 48 hours of Trash-Trooper! (with all due love and respect of course!)

In the not TOOOO distant future I will have an affordable EPIII bucket available to CCG members, so unless you just HAVE to have SOMETHING now, go ahead I suppose.

BILL!  WTF?  You have soooooooo many resources for Clone armor just in our garrison!  You should just ask any number of people to see what they think before you buy, it might help your impulses!   And save you money.

WTH... I am damned if I do and damned if I don't with you people!

Anyone else want to chime in? Martin? Anyone? No, really, I don't think I have heard enough criticism from everyone!

No, Bill, you are damned if you do.  Never buy this stuff without contacting someone to find out if it is CRAP or not.  I could get you an MR recast for $100.

Not that I would support recasting...

I love how everyone chimes in after the fact... I could have done this or that for you, Bill...... whatever!

Bill, if you haven't realized that this is a community of people that you can go to then I will say that this is all a failure and resign my post.  To think that we have tried to build this as a community and not have people come to any of us with a question seems crazy.  especially since you went to at least one armor party in which I supplied the armor and the helmets.  How many people have I set up as clones?  If you had said anything about wanting to get or be a clone you would have been set up.  To my knowledge you have never asked or said anything!

I have purchased armor from Martin... but i have yet to build it   i would think that buying off of Ebay would be a last resort after PM'ing people on our boards for info, advice, or other resources.  Ebay to me seems like playin Russian roulette with half the chambers full.  i personally dont care if you buy off Ebay or not so if you like it and feel you got a good deal, then why care what everyone else thinks?  but if it is crap then prepare to deal with it (how's that black Stormtrooper armor doin?)

Bill, I wasn't trying to rip on you, man. But when you don't ask for advice before-hand, you can't expect anything but comments to be made "after the fact".

Of course it was a rip, Kyle. Otherwise why preface the remainder of your post with me not consulting, yada yada yada... whatever.

I do believe I have asked for assistance for other projects. I tend to get crickets chirping or I get a hearty clap on the back and a "good luck with that project". And while it is true that I could go to garrison members for armor items, somehow I just don't really feel like lining their pockets when I can find something has potential of being just as good, in my opinion. No offense to those who produce props for gain. You have the talents and you are utilizing them to their fullest potential. No matter how good that item is, it is well beyond my acceptable price range. And I have said this before and I will say it again, I refuse to pay as much for a bucket as one would for a complete set of armor. So for me getting a Clone bucket that is already painted to the color scheme of the 442nd Seige Battalion, the clone I have been wanting to do for a long time (yes I have talked about it a great deal), for under $150 was a deal that I couldn't pass up. But you all may be right and once again I have blundered. But I don't think so. We shall see.

Then again, I don't know I even bother. I'm wasting my time bothering to respond to any of this. You all have your opinions....

Because I was responding to your specific comment - as I am doing now, only choosing to quote that which I am commenting on. And again, my post was not a rip on YOU (as it says above). And I'm sorry you feel as if your projects are met with "crickets chirping"...I know several instances where the good folks on these boards have not only helped you, but been enthusiastic about it (me included).  :?

I like the helmet. There I said it.

I actually almost put a bid on this thing myself......

Talking about getting armor and deciding to get armor are two different things.  You could get a helmet from me and paint it exactly the way you want for the same price.  All I am saying is that when you want something ask first then bid.  If you had come to me I would have gotten you a helmet on my last helmet run.  They just came in two days ago.  You can line our pockets, as you so eloquently have said it, or line the pockets of someone else selling crap.  I would never sell you crap and I charge a lot less to people at home for the stuff I get then to anyone else in the legion!

C'mon Bill, WHAT is this group all about?  It's about PROFESSIONAL GRADE, ACCURATE SW props and costumes.  Now honestly, with allllll the reference materials and KILLER/SWEET TO DIE FOR props out there, can you HONSELTY say that bucket is on par with what we do here?  You get peeved and your feelings are hurt (wasn't my intention) when YOU bragged it up in your post like you made the SCORE OF THE CENTURY

With a bucket like that, what the "H" did you THINK we were going to say?  Would you rather we LIE TO YOU and say, "oh yeah SUUUWEEEET BUCKET DUDE, you should troop in that!!", only to have the inevitable happen while you are trooping... some 5-year old kid tell you your bucket looks like it has a chromosomal defect or something?  I am (most everyone here as well) an accuracy/quality fiend, not an "armor snob".  If you dig it for your collection because its a fan made "thing-a-muh-bob", then cool... more power to you!

Like it has already been mentioned, you have some SERIOUSLY talented (and connected) resources within this garrison that are MORE than happy to help you out (in many ways), and those resources DO NOT profiteer off fellow garrison members.

respectfully (believe it or not),

To answer the question, yes. It looks fine to me. It doesn't look like crap to me, it has an appeal to it that I find cool. I do like the weathered look, I do like that it is abs. If I didn't think it was worth a lick I wouldn't have bid on it. Yes, I did think I was getting a good deal for what was being offered: a clone helmet (what I wanted. check) that is weathered (also what I wanted. check) and was already paint-schemed to the 442nd Seige Battalion (again, what I wanted. check).

Lie to me? Of course not. But do you have to slap me in the face?

Talented people here in my garrison? Yes, I know this. I have asked for assistance in the past on certain projects. The willingness to actually, physically help hasn't been too forthcoming. There is always an excuse (I understand when life gets in the way. I get that! I respect that families and personal lives do come first. I have never had an issue with that) as to why I can't be helped, or it has been excitement over the completion of the project. Excitement doesn't help me achieve my goal of completing the project. I'm no artist. What I require is something of artistic talent. The fact is I have asked. In one case I got a "sorry, dude, you're on your own".

Now, back to what Chris mentioned about ebay. Yes, I know that it is a buyer's beware market. Yes I have been hosed on some things in the past as Chris has pointed out, specifically a certain set of black tx armor. I should also point out that a-hole was a legion member from Carrida Garrison. The armor looked immaculate in the pictures that he provided, it was only upon receiving the armor that it's true colors were shown. Lesson learned and I don't deal with that guy again. But I have also picked up a lot of other good things over the years, specifically the black armor set that Dave Hamm has. My TIE ARMOR, ebay. All of my accessories, for the most part are ebay or other sources. Contrary to popular believe, ebay isn't the Great Satan that people make it out to be. And I am getting tired of getting beaten up over it.

You guys are entitled to whatever you believe. Yeah, it ruffled my feathers getting ganged up on. And now I am a bit pissed at people who are supposedly my friends. But, whatever. I think from here on out whatever I get off ebay, I will just keep it to myself. I still see the value in ebay, even if everyone here is dead-set against it. Again, personal preference. Not everything off ebay is automatically crap. Every bit of costuming that I own, for the exception of those pieces that I have hand-made or my mom put together for me has been from ebay. Professional grade? Yeah. Accurate? Yeah. Unless for some strange reason I haven't fit that mold for the past year and a half. If that is the case then what the hell am I still doing here?

Bravo people. All of your points have been duly noted. I'm going to take a break for awhile. I'll talk to you all later.
