Sherwood Neighborhood Block Party August 11th, 6:00 pm

This is a summer block party that they folks throw every year.  They saw us at Krispy Kream and got our contact info and would love to have us there.  This years theme is, obviously, Star Wars.  They are going to play the movies, and would love to have us there as long as week can be there for pictures, games, and whatever.  They would love a Vader, but I made no promises on it.  They are donating a couple hundred to DCH for us!

Roster starts here:

Martin~Airborne or RC if done
Nick
Mary
Phil
Qui-Fawn
Robin (maybe)
Todd
Wilson Kaine
Pepito
48 hours of Bill (hopefully!)

LOCATION (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&addtohistory=&address=22629%20Sw%20Pinehurst%20Ct&city=Sherwood&state=OR&zipcode=97140%2d6807&country=US&geodiff=1) is here!

I can't tell you how excited we all are to have you come for our neighborhood outdoor movie event.   The kids and grown ups will be just so excited to see you all (mostly all boys ages 5 to 40).    They will all have dinner prior to coming, so we are just going to serve movie treats and have you all come and meet, greet and take pictures (I am thinking a couple of hours at most).    We are keeping your arrival  secret to the kids, so when you do come they will be that much more excited. Parents will be present, so there aren't any crazy kids to worry about without adults.

Here's our address:   if you get lost, but it is very easy to find from mapquest.   We live on a culdesac and so there is lots and lots of parking.

Thanks again!!!

EDIT by FireStorm:  Sorry, I didn't want #'s and addresses on the public section.  These have been moved to the private section.

Probably right at the house...well not probably, for sure.  I will make sure that there is something, most likely a garage.  They are really wanting us to hang out and participate, so this should be more then an hour gig if we chose to do so!  I will hang as long as the food holds out!!

Perhaps Todd could bring that changing room contraption he built up for the Starlight Parade?  That seemed to fill the need for those uber-pale Luke Skywalker impersonators so they could change into character and not blind everyone with the glare from their frog-belly-white appendages being exposed.  :P

I have confirmation that there is a suitable place to change, so all of you ninny-hammers that are too shy to change in public can have your own little hiding place away from the leering eyes of the neighborhood.  Hopefully that makes some of you a little more comfy!

Hey Barry, I have a request for you to check on with your DCH contacts.  Can you see if they have a receipt process for donations.  Someone wants to go hi-dollar but wants a receipt for their taxes.  Thanks Barry.

Alrighty folks, this is happening this weekend.  The folks are beyond excited.  There are to be thirty kids plus parents, so there is going to be a huge amount of folks!

Can anyone think of any games or anything else that they would like to do other than stand around for pics?  How about the back drop?  Is that too much?  What about anything we can do with the kids and parents?  Ideas?

I got a game, how about pin the tail on a Stormtrooper. Line up all the kids with with a sharp object attach to something that resembels a tail, then line the stormies about 15 feet away and yell go. First one to make a stormtrooper yelp wins.

I would be willing to modify that into something less painful!  To be honest I think you may be on to something there...minus the pain and the sticking and the ouch!

ok trooper friendley version, like flag football. clotch pieces hanging off the belt or other spot. kid who collectls the most wins. or modify the pin the tail to some form of velcro. Wish I was gonna be there we need pict. or movies of this. Wait I have another one. Will the hasbro suction cup darts stick to armor. You could get an original hasbro clone trooper suction dart gun. I would be like a shooting gallery. Biker scouts 5pts, Sandtroopers 10pts, Stormtroopers 15pts, Clone troopers 20pts.

You guys and gals are awesome!!!  Some kids will be wearing their costumes and most will have light sabers too.  I have purchased notepads and pens for all the kids so hopefully they can get autographs from you all. :)   This is great...it's like Disneyland!    I am up for doing any fun ideas with the kids, maybe breaking up in groups for some lightsaber training or jedi training?   They are just going to be so excited to see you all.  We went yesterday to get the equipment to run the movie and our little neighbor boy said we don't need the movie just the visitors. :)  You all are going to totally be the highlight of the night, not to mention the summer for these boys and girls.

Thanks,
Tiffany

On the kids attending.  They were ok with one person asking to bring their kids but didn't want everyone to bring their kids.  For the simple fact that there are 30 kids with parents in tow, that is a lot of people to plan and shop for.  They really wanted to be able to know specific numbers so the planning worked out.  So while Daverian has asked and it seems ok I would say that not everyone can bring their kids, and if you are you needed to decide yesterday about it so that the numbers would include them.  Sorry, I think they have their hands pretty full with the 90+ people that are going to be there.

Gladstone... and I am off, so I can do this event.

Here is the googlemaps link to my place. But if it is easier, I can meet you at the Winchell's Donut shop instead. You can't miss the donut shop. You have to pass it to get to my place - that is if you are coming up McLoughlin Blvd from I-205.

You can call me 503-962-0365 if you get lost. Thanks!

 No, Allen, you're awesome.

Ok, if you insist.... yes, I am awesome!

This was a really fun event. I especially found it funny at watching about a half a dozen screaming kids chasing Nick2 down and him having to use his sister as a shield to protect him from the mob. It kind of reminded me of the Empire getting their tails whipped by those cute little fuzzy teddy bears....... wait, I am a member of said Empire who got their tails whipped by said cute little fuzzy teddy bears. Oh, man!!!!!

On a more serious note, it is always a pleasure to troop with and hang out with all of you fine folks. Dinner afterward was, as always, an enjoyable treat. Thanks for the fellowship everyone!

This is from Tiffany, the person who coordinated with us for the block party:

Quote
Hi Martin,

Just wanted to let you know we raised $351.00 for Doernbecher last night.  Thank you so much for organizing this VERY fun and memorable evening for the kids.  They are all talking about it today and I am sure for many many days ahead.   I took a walk this afternoon and I saw a lot of the same kids that came last night, playing lightsabers in their front yards.  The parents tell me they too are still talking about it.  The parents had a great time as well..the ones who stayed for the movie and of course the ones who got a little break and had a night out without their kids.

I have to tell you, your group is fantastic and should be very proud of what you are doing.  It is very neat that you all take time out of your busy lives to do what you do and to do it for such a great charity.    Kudos to you and the group.   I just can't say enough great things about  you guys.

If you have anything you could e-mail me regarding the event at the end of the month at the World Trade Center (times etc.).  I would be happy to forward it on to others via e-mail.   As you saw from last night, I am sure your event will be BIG success.

I will go ahead and drop off the raised money next week to Doernbecher.

Thank you again!!!!!  It was great working with you.

Tiffany

You know after reading the letter from Tiffany, something occured to me.

I got to spend a few hours, dressed up as one of the characters from one of the greatest films of all time, sign autographs for kids (wait a sec I am just some nobody schmoe), be the topic of conversation for some kids for years to come, and just generally have a good time. Now with doing all this somehow we managed to raise money for bunch of sick kids in the hosipital. Hot damn, honestly, what could be better than THAT?  Freaking COOL!!! Sign me up! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
