DCH Troop Aug 25th thread: www.cloudcitygarrison.com/forum/index.php?topic=2266.msg28007#new
This surely is a busy weekend, and both events need YOU
-
Sounds awesome. I may be fighting the night before in Cresent City, but nothings official yet. Put me down as a maybe.
-
Ah man, I'd love to do this as well as the DCH troop if I can get my armor done in time! *crosses fingers*
-
Pepito, I've penciled you in. Do hope you can make it.
Trumby, you're on the list,
Thank you.
-
Count me in too! Jedi scum present and accounted for! :D
-
:D Qui-Fawn :D
-
Count me in. TB. :-)
-
:D Ara :D 8)
-
Pencil me in for Maul if I can get the makeup done up ok. That, and I am trying to find a good pic to use.
-
Doug, :D penciled in. Do you need assistance in taking New pictures??
-
Please Note the date/time. August Sunday 26th at 12noon to 4pm has been set.
-
The major holdup on the pictures is finding time to do the whole paint scheme well and my normal person who does the paint moved out of town for school :(. I will figure out something though.
-
Doug, if you want armor for the day let me know and I will put you in my Desert Trooper!
-
Plan for TROOPER OLYMPICS:
Trooper games (based on CIV activities):
All Events for troopers are conducted with Helmets and Armor on except where noted. Jedi may participate but MUST wear a helmet when performing the course.
Event #1:
Trooper teams compete against one another in a costuming contest. One member is in undersuit only, the other members must fully armor the member without the help of the member. Each team competes at the same time, the winner being judged by fastest time completed.
Event #2 – The Course:
The course consists of one team going at a time for fastest time on the course. The course itself is marked out on the ground in masking tape.
-The first heat is the target table, in which troopers shoot nerf guns at targets on 4 tables lined up on either side of a path. They can only use the rounds that are loaded in the gun. Troopers can continue to shoot as long as they have nerf darts. Each hit target deducts 2 seconds of time from overall time. Troopers who cross the designate line add 5 seconds to their time.
-The second heat has four steps, one trooper at each of the first three and two troopers at the final step of this heat:
Step 1; trooper shoots a nerf gun at the open mouth of Jar Jar Binks. Each nerf dart successfully through the mouth takes two seconds off the overall time.
Step 2; the next trooper throws 5 plastic whiffle balls (like snow balls) through the mouth of a Wampa, each one successfully through deducts 2 seconds off overall time.
Step 3; the trooper throws 5 Frisbees through a Death Star exhaust port, each frisbee through deducts 2 seconds off the overall time.
Step 4; Two troopers, preferably one that is a Biker Scout, will toss 5 Ewok dolls (teddy bears). One trooper will toss the dolls to the second (preferably the biker scout), the second catching them in their helmet. Each Ewok is worth 2 seconds off the overall time.
-The third heat consists of the Ewok catcher placing their helmet on their head, batting their way through a series of Ewok cut outs on the ground and making their way to the final heat. There is no time or score value to the ground Ewoks.
-The fourth heat is the final part of the course where the Ewok catcher, who has made it through the batting section, gets on a skate board or razor scooter and makes their way through a narrow course of corners that has tree obsticles. Each tree touched adds 2 seconds to the final time. The course is over when the trooper on the skate board/scooter crosses the finish line.
-
I wouldlove to do this, put me down
Kevin (jedi)
-
:D Kevin :D :D
-
Hey me and my woman would like to come down for this. I'd either do Obi-Wan or a Ep 2 clone. Or both! And my woman has Mando gear, Vhonte Tervho. (Steven and Katie)
-
:D Rotten + 1 :D :D If we get to vote, please do Obi-Wan. please
-
For those of you wondering what the heck "Lighting Vader's Saber" is... (this idea/concept was Robin's idea) it's a display I made for this event last year that has a clear hollow tube set into Vader's light saber hilt that gets cash donations (wrapped in red tissue paper) dropped into it until it fills up... thus "Lighting Vaders saber".
Me and Robin guarding the "ton o' cash" in the saber last year!
and the all time classic...
Here's Billiam... adjusting hisself (internally I suspect)!

-
The "crane"... I was performing the "crane" technique. You know like in the Karate Kid??? And NO!!! I was not "dropping the chalupa", as you put it, Tony. Nor was I adjusting myself...
Why do I allow Tony to suck me in like this????
-
STAY ON TARGET... flyboy.
-
Yeah, yeah....
-
Well I won't have my armor by then (ended up having to wait to buy it as I am moving in August and I got a sceurity deposit to pay! <.<), but as long as I don't have anything Kumoricon related (we have a meeting the day before so there shouldn't be anything) I believe I will still be there to meet you all and help out with whatever :)
-
One way or another I will be there - either I will be working onsite, or I will join you guys in my officer's uniform.
- Bill
-
Well either way Bill, just make sure you're wearing SOMETHING.... no nakkie trooping!!! :P
-
*smacks forehead*
-

Looks like he's got a little 'Cap'n Morgan' in him. :P :P
-
I suppose I could do a Capt'n Morgan pose, just for you, Robin! 8)
-
Checking in...... :D
Kyle, how is the flyer design coming? Anxious to get a few 100 printed off, get the gear on, and ‘troop’ them out.
Martin, do you have all your game bases covered? Do you need more help? BTW: saw your mug in StarWars magazine #95.
To all, I will be out of town Aug 17-22, and will only have 4 days to iron out any wrinkles. So, if you need help getting pix printed, please email me a copy sooooon ( rtpaytner@yahoo.com)

OK here are a list of things that I need:
Fawn can you be responsible to get 5 small, brown teddy bears for Ewoks
Paul can you be responsible to get 5 frisbees
Doug can you be responsible to get 5 wiffle balls
Think Dollar Store!! Can people please get some of these?
Also I need about 80 targets made up. These can be printed out and glued to cardboard. You don't have to shape the cardboard to the target, but it needs to have a slit at the bottom and a slide in tab so it stands up.
Here are the targets:
Robin can you print out and make 20 of these: http://www.goldengategarrison.com/gallery-members/album05/targettrooper?full=1
Nick can you print out and make 20 of these: http://www.goldengategarrison.com/gallery-members/album05/ewok?full=1
Allen can you print out and make 20 of these: http://www.goldengategarrison.com/gallery-members/album05/jarjar1?full=1
Scot can you print and make out 20 of these: http://www.goldengategarrison.com/gallery-members/album05/jawa?full=1
Ara and Kyle and Phil, will this be of any use for advertisement and promotions? http://home.comcast.net/~lcostorage/trooperOLYMPICS4vari.jpg
At this point I need to know what we know about promoting this thing out. TV, print, radio, satellite, Bill's forehead! Where are we, what do we need, can it be done, who is doing it, and what can I do? I have two tv spots ready to go, I just need a cable access address to get them to!!

I also have a bucket of various sized wiffle balls lying around the school that I can bring.
Plus I think Fawn and I have about 10 Nerf Mavrick's between us if you need em.
Let me know if these things can be of use.
-
If Nerf Mavericks are Nerf guns then YES, BRING THEM!!
-
I can spot on Sunday.........
-
Thanks, Cooter :D
-
I can do Vader if you still need one or I can be chewbacca . just let me know .
-
RHEBB, can you do Both ????? On the scale of popularity, I'd say do Vader, though Chewie has his own fan following, too. This is a tough one for me to decide on my own. I'll put you down as Vader. Thank you for volunteering to wear that personal black sauna suit in August  8)
-
Count me in as TB. I'm looking forward to this one.
-
Bskull....gotcha :D

I'm already having one of Those days.. :| :| .....I cannot find Nick2 anything to get in contact with him. Can you help verify him doing Vader on Aug 26th ?, and I'll make a note of it in the roster.

Nick2 is doing vader with my outfit at DCH. I don't know about WTC..... 8)
BA

I can bring both Vader and chewy just to be safe.

BA
-
Martin,
What is the finished size of the cut outs ???
-
About 6 to 8 inches tall.
ALSO, IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE THAT WE GET A BOX FOR VADER CHOKING PICTURES!! DOES ANYONE HAVE SOMETHING PEOPLE CAN STAND ON FOR VADER CHOKING PICTURES???
I still need to hear from people who I have asked to do some work for this event. If you are not going to or can't then tell me now so I can make other arrangements.
Robin, is it possible to get a roll away tv and dvd player out there? I thought we could throw the DVD from OMSI out there maybe.
Also, Phil, are there fliers left from the Special Olympics gig that I brought? If so we need those on deck and out there for us!
Kyle has made a beautiful flier for us to advertise. Do we have a ways and means of getting that out there? Where are we with other advertisements for this event?

Indeed my friend,The one and only!
Dad's away on business but yes we still have the box filled with fliers,I'll get to work and print out those Ewok pics Martin
-
I have a poly step stool. If I can't make the event I can give it to Kyle to bring. 12" tall.
I'm not sure if I can make this event. But, I shall endeavour. We'll see I suspect.
About 6 to 8 inches tall.

I have the step stool from last year's event for Vader Force Choking pictures. It accomadated a child of 8 to an adult. It worked last year - I'm bringing it again.
I have printed (Kyle's) flyers and have already handed them out today.
About the TV: we can bring our's...I already asked about borrowing one - Nope.
-
After Martins mass Email, I'll try to help with Advertising. Tomorrow I'll write up some Professional "looking" email, and email to every DJ on KUFO. Everybody loves Starwars and sick kids, so if I work that angle in the email perhaps we can get a "on air" mention or maybe even an interview. Should I drop them my phone number or somebody elses?
Also most local Tv News stations have some local heros segment. I'll try emailing them too, explain the situation, and maybe we can get an on air mention too. That would be kudos.
Also I will start making up a Tattoo gun out of a VCR motor and some indian ink. I know where Bill lives so I will go over there on Sunday to put that advertising on his "forehead!"
-
Sorry I've been out of the loop for awhile and also this whole event is new for me. I would like to attend and try and do anything I can that my schedule and budget allows.
Also the last few days Heather, my girlfriend, has been bugging me to ask you guys a few questions. I figured it might fit in here. She recently acquired some candy molds off of ebay, one has yoda and r2 as suckers and vader, stormtrooper and chewie as bitesized candy bits, and then two sucker trays with r2 and 3po respectively. Well, she's been asking me if it would be ok if she made some up and sold them, giving what ever money she got from them to what ever charity we were running the event for, which in this case would be DCH. But like I said this event is a new one for me and I'm not sure if there's room to set up this sort of thing. But just let me know and I'll let here know the answer.
EDIT
Also I'll ask if I can drop some fliers off at the daycare that I work at. I'm not sure on our policy about advertising but I'm sure it wont be that big of a deal.
-
Here's my suggestion, Cooter......give the folks you contact for advertising your number, and include the event flyer in the original email to them. If you have any questions, you can ask me or Martin.
And Knaves, I would need to inquire about homemade food products sold to the public guidelines before I can answer/comment on this. If not this year, possibly next. However.....I'm not opposssed to a trial run with CCG members :D
-
What event flyer?
*Nevermind I found it.....
-
Well I emailed Kufo, and Jammin 95.5 (those guys came over and took a pic with us at the trailblazer event), and hopefully they will give us an on air mention. I dont see why they wouldn't, Marconi uses the Imperial Death March music on his show as do Cort and Fatboy, but who knows I tried. Yes I sent them our flyer. Now its onto news Channel 2 Katu............(christ I hope they dont ask for an on air interview! I suck) lol
-
Scot, thank you for getting the targets done!
Kirk, thanks for getting 50 Imperial handbooks done!
Knaves, all you have to do is log on here and we will keep you up to date. Please come and please bring the lady!! Robin is on it about the candy. As far as I am concerned it is fine, but I don't know what kinds of stipulations there may be in doing this. It can't be any different than that of a bake sale, so I would think that such a thing is completely fine. Stay Tuned.
Cooter Davis, thanks for getting those out. If anyone wants or needs on-air I am a microphone and camera whore so I have no issue doing all or both or something.
For everyone, you are welcome to get the flier that Kyle made, print them out and circulate that to the best of your ability!! That would help out tremendously!
Here are the fliers if they are needed:

-
I also emailed every local news station I could think of. I'll call my wife (works in a Doctors office) and see if we can pass out some flyers there...........
Cooter Davis, thanks for getting those out. If anyone wants or needs on-air I am a microphone and camera whore so I have no issue doing all or both or something.
Yeah but dont you live in blimchuck or BFE or something????
-
ahem---found this in my email box this morning.....
Hi Anthony,
I think we should be able to stick a mention or 2 of this event into our morning show on the 26th. I’ll have it posted on our website community calendar as well.
Thanks,

Just got off the phone with Natali, with KATU channel 2, and she is going to forward my email upto the assignment desk, and try to get it on the air!
She also mentioned she would forward that email to her family and friends as well as bring her son!
*can I get a woot woot?
-
*can I get a woot woot?
WOOT WOOT !!!!!!!! Awesome !
-
Well I heard back from KGW, and while they aren't going to air anything, they said I could post the event on the community calender. So I did just that, and hopefully that gets a zillion views a day or so.
Still waiting for news from KOIN 6, and that would be the end of the stations I contacted.
-
Great Job Cooter.. Way to get word out... WOOT WOOT.. This is going to be a fun event.
-
i got nuthin goin on that weekend.... i suppose i can come play with you all. count the Fettman in. I'll bring the jedi outfit, just in case i get the urge to throw down the sabers.
-
Way to spread the word cooter!
WOOT WOOT
-
Fawn -5 small, brown teddy bears for Ewoks (check)
Paul - 5 frisbees (check, plus he scored the guns for us)
Doug - 5 wiffle balls (nothing yet but I think Paul said he had wiffle balls)
Robin - 20 Trooper tagets (check, plus the box to stand choking victims on )
Nick - 20 Ewoks (check)
Allen - 20 Jar Jar tagets (check)
Scot - 20 Jawa (check)
Kirk is doing 160 Imperial Handbooks for kids.
Promotional stuff has been going out.
Kevin, Fawn, Paul - How is the Apprentice Academy going? Kevin, will you be showing and bringing the sabers?
Backdrop - Is DST willing to have the Tantive IV backdrop there?
CCG banner - This is in Bill England's shop. Can that get to someone or be brought to the event by someone?
Vader's Saber - I will be picking this up from Tony.
RAZOR Scooter or the like - Does anyone have one we can use? We need one for the final heat of the Olympics event.
I believe the teams will still be 5 to team, but if need be for numbers reasons we can make smaller teams. So far we have a tremendous turnout!
Anything else anyone can think of?
I am making the giant Jar Jar, Wampa, and Death Star targets!!
-
I will bring Luke Skywalker costume as well .. it depends if I want a break form TK..But I doubt it ..LOLOL.. I love my TK. I have not slept with it on yet.. LOLOLOL.. Karyn would boot me out of bed ...Anyway.. Do we have numbers on how many of us are going to make this??
-
And Knaves, I would need to inquire about homemade food products sold to the public guidelines before I can answer/comment on this. If not this year, possibly next. However.....I'm not opposssed to a trial run with CCG members :D
She said she was pretty sure there was some regulations about it all and if it wasn't ok she suggested that she could make soap out of the molds and sell those for charity. But either way i'll keep checking back and see what's up.
-

Soap? Now there's a good idea. Nothing can Defeat a "Clean Empire!" Especially since after that armor comes off we all smell like a bad sock!
-
Yeah I'll bring the wiffle balls... as far as the Jedi academy, Fawn and I have a series of Esricma counts that we use at the school so i figure we can do something based on those. I'll bring both my TK and my Revan (Don't feel like being called skeletor)
-
Well I got approval to pass out fliers at my wifes work place. She says they have aproxamately 80 kids through there
a day. So hopefully those fliers will go like hotcakes.
I havn't heard from either Radio station, but I found out later that
KUFO has rock fest the same day. So I doubt we will get any love from them.
As for the Playhouse, jammin 95.5, I think I emailed them after their show
was over, so maybe I'll hear something tomorrow. Who knows......
-
I'm planning on chatting with Kevin on Saturday at the whole bar-thingy about what he wants to do for the Lightsaber Academy. Like Paul said, we've got escrima counts we can use but hey, it's a lightsaber and we should be doing way cooler things with it. I know Kev's really keen with swords and stuff, so we should definitely work on incorporating that in. We had a pretty good trial run at the Sherwood block party that was pretty much ad libbed, so with more planning we should be stellar.
And oh, by the way, Cooter: you're the most awesome of awesomeness. :D Nice networking!
-
I'll ask Rick about the Tantive IV backdrop and T'Igor if I can borrow his Razor scooter.
-Kyle
-
Sweetness! Thanks to all of you.
One thing to keep in mind, I am sure you have, with the sword play is that these are mostly going to be little folk that don't have the experience, so I am sure that your knowledge and what you can ad-lib will be huge amounts of info. If you want I can through a video together that shows what they do with Jedi Academy and ship it to you ASAP. If you want...
Thanks to everyone who is coming through on all of this. I think this is going to be one of the best events ever!!
-
I can get wiffle balls no problem. I am going to be in town for a couple of days before and will have nothing to do so if you guys need any help with anything else, let me know. Not looking like Maul will be ready to make it, I got too much that I want to change before I bring it out again, but I will be there one way or another.
-
Star Wars Video you say Martin.... we'd love one
I figure we'll do something along the lines of what we did at Sherwood... we pretty much modieifed our escrima counts to look cool, and the kids picked it up really fast. The good thing about the counts is that you can dumb them down or jack them up depending on skill level.. and most of the times the kids just like to hit things :)
Fawn, kevin and I will work out all the particulars at the Bar thing tomarrow.
-
So for this thread from now on we need to keep all the planning in the Events Section that is on the private part. For the people that are not members of CCG or KB we can keep up with certain updates on here. The issue is that the public section is only to be used for updates and specifics while all the planning takes place in the private section. So for now, if everyone would please move to the Events Thread to discuss, plan, and otherwise cavort about this and Robin or I can make updates to this section as needed. If you are in the public section only, PM Robin or and I we can make sure to make updates in here. You are all welcome to talk and discuss in here, but decisions and plans have to be kept in the Events Planning thread. We are getting too many lines run here and people are having a hard time keeping up.
Please continue on the Events Planning section.
ps...don't move this post, simply move your mouse over to the Events Planning section and discuss and plan there!

Hey,

Thanks Greg

If you are meaning pics to autograph and hand out, you can make them any way you chose. Cheap and easy 4x6 at Fred Meyer; I think $0.19 a piece.
Thank you so much Allen, those look perfect!!
-
Yeah, Greg. That is all you have to do is what Martin suggested. If you have a good pic of you in your costume ( I used the photo that I submitted to the 501st ), then just go to Fred Meyer or Kinkos, or whoever and get a bunch of them printed off. I'd say you can't go wrong with having about 75-100 photos on hand... maybe more. That is what I generally try to do - have at least 100 or more photos at all times. You never know when the need for the 48 Hours of Bill to make his mark comes in to play.......
-
I'm going to have to back out of this one. I have a wedding that day.
-
ARA IS GETTING MARRIED!!!!!  :P
-
This is TK 2129, I can make it. Do you need any help with the targets? I'm not very good with a computer and I've never done one of these events. Is there anything I need to know ahead of time?
-
Heya SaberWolf, would you mind sounding off and telling us who you are? I am afraid you are unknown to me.
At this point I think we have most of our needs met. I need 6 tables for the event, but those should come from WTC if they have them. If not we will have to scramble.
ps...I found out who SaberWolf is, so welcome Will from Vancouver, here is his pic:

Hi, SaberWolf. I'll add you to the roster and get with Martin for any last minute Trooper Olympic stuff.......otherwise, polish up that armor and see you Sunday

Yea I wont be able to make it. The Feds need me longer this weekend. :(
-
I'm still not sure if i'm going to be in armor tomorrow or not so I haven't printed or asked any one to print off any photos yet. It's been a really really busy week and I still have to do some repairing on my legs. The catches broke the last fifteen minutes of last weekends event. I talked with Kyle and he gave me some tips so If I have time tomorrow or late tonight i'll fix them up. Heather is still planning on making soap for sell tomorrow for the charity so we'll be there either way.
-
I just got back to Heather's house and i'm exhausted, so I wont be able to work on my armor. So i'll be doing spotter duty tomorrow and helping Heather with the soaps. But while I was at home grabbing my stuff I picked up one of my extra McQuarrie Chewbaccas so I'll be bringing that tomorrow as a prize too.

It was great to see everyone that I only talk to (or about ) on the boards. The few minor glitches, which all events have, were quickly ironed out (or shoved in a dark corner  ) and we kept the ball rolling 8) It was great to watch my fellow troopers & Jedi 'at work', and the positive energy at the event was a "Force" of its own :!: I noticed that several families stuck around for the whole 4 hours, and it's not just the kids smiling in those pictures ....way cool ! I do hope you all felt comfortable and welcomed (because we're doing this again next year and you're already invited back   )
A very special thanks to Jeffery for trooping with us :!: 8) and the crew behind the scenes that took pictures, drew targets, handled the money, guarded doors & the "Saber", and endlessly stood up Olympic targets and collected the 'ammo'........ THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
As soon as I can I'll get my pictures posted on the gallery (almost 400)
And lastly I must say that those who could not make it, I am sorry and your absence was noted and felt. :(
because we talked about your lazy no show butt and had a hella good time :!: :P :P

Hey Chris--several people are asking for a copy of this. Any way you could burn it, to a dvd, and get it to somebody in the group?
-
I would love a copy if it is easy to do. I think my parents may have snagged it on VHS so I may be able to make a copy and put it on You Tube and link it to the forum!!
My deepest thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. This was one of the best events ever! David C from GGG said this was the best event he had ever been a part of and he is from San Francisco, so to me that says something!!
Casey and Madison and Mary _ Thanks for the help with the Trooper Olympics!
Thanks to everyone who gave out items for the games and the prizes!
Thanks to Tony2 for getting the media there!
Thanks to everyone who do anything!
Thanks to Robin for making this happen...Lotsa Love to you!!
