Check this out - my first and most likely last time I'll be on the site:
http://starwars.com/community/news/family/news20061211.html
Had lots of fun making the video. Those Golden Gate folks are great. Now, Cloud City must beat them at the next droid hunt ;)
Cheers.

If you have a Hyperspace membership, you can read some more about the Drill Captains:

Look for more pictures and stories in the next two Bantha Tracks in the Star Wars Insider.
Cheers.

Mary Franklin wanted stories and images from the Drill Captains and Helpers.... Well I sent her my story and she published it! Holy smokes.
I am very surprized and VERY humbled.
Cheers.

Must have a Hyperspace account to get there.
Congrats anyhow, Michael! That's pretty cool to be mentioned at all, let alone multiple times!

Yes, hyperspace membership needed. Too bad I can't share it with my family!
You can read the article here:

Thanks, Michael. Nice work.
So that was your whistle I kept hearing on the televised broadcast - good idea.
You flag guys looked like the only ones that were in step at all.
Maybe FRS units with a metronome or live marching orders being broadcast would help in future parades to keep the ranks in step.
(the whistle kinda took away from the overall look, but what else could you have done?).
Can you say Starlight Parade?
Well done and thanks for making the 501st look good, even in light of one particular announcer's ignorant commentary.

My feet hurt already.

Hey Scott,
The whistle came into play the day before the parade because as we practised with the band, they changed tempo so often we could not stay in step. Then given the fact that we figured we would not even be able to hear a base drum because of the crowd noise, we opted for a whistle. At times I could not even hear myself blowing the darn thing - it was that loud!!! All three Senior Drill Captains had a whistle. You may have heard any one of us blowing it. Before the parade I didn't want to blow it very often, but found out fast that I had to blow it almost the entire time. My cheeks hurt for an entire week afterwards. Lots of people said the Flag Party was in step the entire parade and many of the members told me afterwards they really needed that whistle because they couldn't see a thing - too much "rain" inside the bucket!! CRAZY!!!! I have never been in a parade like this one.
I think Pasadena has some rule about radio's... or so we were told so we punted on the FRS idea back in Nov. For a small parade with not too much crowd noise, a drum would be best. I think the FRS radios would be wickedly cool!
Rob - I still have a black toe. It's going to take 6 months to heal. :(
Cheers.
