EVENT TYPE: 501/RL Formal
WHAT: Portland Pride Parade
SPECIAL NOTE ON THE EVENT: For those of you that knew Rat, this event was very special to him. It is because of him that we have been participating in this event.
WHERE: The Portland Pride Parade will be held July 21, 2024, and steps off (time to be confirmed). The parade forms in the North Park Blocks (check-in times and location to be confirmed). The parade route travels through Northwest Portland and along SW Naito Parkway to end at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The parade is approximately a mile.
DATE: Sunday, July 21st
TIME: Check-in between 9-10am/Lined up in position for parade no later than 10:30am
PARKING: Numerous garages in the area.
CHANGING AND STORAGE: Car change
COSTUME REQUESTS: Any costumes.
PHOTOGRAPHY PERMITTED: Yes.
BLASTER POLICY: Lightsabers are ok. No blasters please.

FEES: The registration fee per person is $15. Please send payment to @Judith-Janssen via Venmo or PayPal to cjanssen7@msn.com. If you need an alternative to Venmo/PayPal, please contact Judy Janssen (jj49)
NOTES ON FEES: The registration fee is $165.
PAY TO NOT MARCH: You can also use the "pay to not march" - the donations from the "pay not to march" will go towards parade registration, props, con expenses, etc.
UPON ARRIVAL:
- The group must be checked in by 10:00 AM. Marchers should be in position no later than 10:30 AM. Whoever gets there and checks in, please make a post here so others know they don't need to check in and can go to the staging area.
- Parade Contingents west of NW Park Ave should go to the NW Glisan Check in Booth (yellow star on map). Parade Contingent on NW Park Ave and west should check in at the NW Davis Check In Booth (red start on map).

Tee and I are in - provided we have somewhere sheltered to rest and change so we aren't standing in the sun in costume for two and a half hours before the parade like last year.
I'd like to discuss getting a hotel room to change in that will be more central to the staging area if others are keen on contributing for this, or possibly even seeing if a hotel wants to donate use of a conference room for a couple of hours.

That's a good idea and I'd be willing to pitch in. We'd have to know well and in advance where our staging area is likely to be in order to get a room that would be within a couple of blocks of where we need to step off.

As soon as we get a rough idea of where our staging area is going to be, I intend to approach the closest hotel and see if they have a conference room that we can use as a changing and storage area for the parade. If there are costs involved, I’ll update here.

I don't believe spotters are required to pay the entry fee... although GEC's can correct me if I'm incorrect.

There's a Hampton Inn that I've reached out to nearby about using their conference room as a changing/storage area so we don't have to wait in kit for over two hours in the heat again like last year. The rate for the conference room is $50/hour. I'm waiting on the hotel to get back to me with the contracts and details, but I'm thinking we'd be good with 4-5 hours, so the rate would be about $250. Once I get confirmation from the hotel on a total amount, and we get a head count, I'll post with a cost per member. Cheers.

4 Hours would give us the room from 10 to 2. Unlocked at 930. I'd feel more comfortable giving us until 3 so we're not having to hurry back after walking the parade. I plan on stopping by today to discuss with them further and put down whatever deposits necessary for the space.

I've secured a changing room for us at the Hampton Inn at 354 NW 9th Ave in Portland. We'll be using the Mt. Hood Room for storage and changing. Total Cost will be $305 (copy of the contract is attached). If costumed marchers can chip in $15 each to help me cover the costs, that would be appreciated. Parking: are we allowed to use the valet? How much is it if yes, and do we say we are there for a meeting? I think there is another garage close tho…

The parade ends on the waterfront. I’m thinking about parking at Whole Foods underground (if we can’t use valet), walking to hotel, change at hotel, finish parade, and either hopping the MAX to 10th (Galleria), and walking back to the hotel or maybe Uber?
Maybe some of us can share an Uber.

Good idea there and all around. I think parking is going to be the biggest enemy so I think I might just Uber it to the hotel and then back to the hotel with aureing one maybe and another one back home and shold cost around the same price as a parking lot maybe. Don’t know how much the Bancorp tower cost.
