Dax's Navy Trooper build
« on: March 31, 2016, 11:36:28 AM »
For those days when I don't want to wear a full face-covering helmet, I decided that a Navy Trooper would be cool. Same flight suit, gloves, belt boxes, etc. Just need an E-11, holster (I'll be talking to you, B-Pfau) and of course, the helmet.

In exchange for some work on Carlos' gear, he is trading me his trooper helmet.  :)
It needs a helmet liner, and a fresh coat of paint after sanding. The finish is pretty rough.

I ordered one of the last remaining "Disney Parks" stormtrooper blaster with lights and 2 sounds, stun and "higher power"
that I will re-paint and weather hopefully it will look good enough for regular trooping.
As stated, probably get a holster from B-Pfau.

Pictures to come.

I disassembled the helmet Sunday and fitted the hard hat liner in it. sanded all parts and added a nice glossy black finish. No touchee till Friday after lots of hot dry  time in my shed. Pesky pollen started landing on it when I had it in the sun, I think it will all wash off just fine.

Helmet liner installed.

Main part of helmet, most of which is covered by the cheese grater parts.

Rough sand with 100 grit to knock most of the old paint off. Followed with 1000 wet or dry then 1500 wet or dry for a smooth base.

Shiny.

The liner forehead pad was blue, painted it black as well so it won't be easily seen.

Everything inside the shed, out of the pollen fest, not to be touched until Thursday or Friday after work for full cure.

Also playing with a DL-44, added better speaker, jack for plugging into an amp, and a superbright red LED inside the barrel.

I have a E-11 that I'm hoping will pass muster with lights and sound once I get done painting it (I luv lights and sound) coming, was hoping it would be here today..  and I'll be getting together with B-Pfau for one of his E-11 holsters so I can man a detention block near you.

Rustoleum black glossy enamel is all it is. having a smooth surface IE prep is the key. My wrists hurt from all the sanding. First 100 grit to take off most of the paint, then 1000 grit wet then 1500 grit wet and a thorough rinsing. More time would equal an even better finish but my arms get tired.

And some completed photos...Meh, our house is so dark even with all lights on and curtains open.

Almost impossible to see the cheese grater detail in the helmet, but it's there. I need some close-ups of the helmet assembled and under better light. Hopefully these photos are sufficient for approval.
For the Empire!

Yay, basic approval achieved!
I'm now toying with the tunic wearing Navy Trooper... I'll see if it's the same as the Imperial Officer tunic and then there's even more goodness to be had. Need Elvistrooper X-tools for 2nd level certification as well as checking out 7 vs 9 holes in the back part of my helmet.

I own a Chevrolet Corvair and people say if you have more than 1, they start to reproduce. It's too late for my costumes already.

I'm also going to look into making myself some bucket bags with handles now that I have my sewing machine figured out. (1927 Singer 99k) Yes, I should probably get something newer..
