Title: CCG 2008 - Holiday Get Together and Gift Exchange
Post by: Pepito on October 14, 2008, 01:39:44 PM
Hey everybody - we had a topic come up in another thread that seems like a great idea.

A Holiday Get2Gether/Gift Exchange

We're looking at doing this at my house, so we Kyle can screw up Master Exploder on Rock Band 2 again :P

Possible Dates Could be Dec - 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st

The gift exchange can either be done as a Secret Santa, Gift Grab, or the Dreaded Dirty Dice Gift Grab.

We should also decide what amount should be spent on gifts $5, $10, $20, $500, $1,000,000, etc

Please respond in this thread with what dates would be best for you, what game you prefer, and what $ amount we should do for gifts

I think $10 for a gift should be the max - I like the Secret Santa method AND I vote for RAWK Band. I've got nothing else going on that I know of in December, so how about the 2nd weekend?

By the way

Secret Santa: Before the party each person is assigned a specific person to bring a gift for

Gift Grab: Everyone brings a gift and puts it in the center. Everyone draws a number from a hat. Lowest number goes first and opens a gift. Next person choses a gift from the center, but before they open it, they can trade it for an already opened gift. Continue in this fashion until there are no more unopened gifts.

Dirty Dice: Everyone brings a gift and puts it in the center. Everyone gets a pair of dice. Everyone starts rolling dice until they get doubles. When a person gets doubles they take a gift from the center. Go until everyone has a gift. Now everyone takes turns opening the gifts. Now the fun part. A timer is set for 5 - 10 minutes and everyone starts rolling again. When a person gets doubles, they can trade gifts with anyone. (Gets pretty chaotic :P ) When the timer stops every keeps the gift they are holding.

I second the $10 limit, but does anyone mind waiting until the 20th? I'm still in school otherwise.

This sounds great!  I was bummed that I missed out on game night.

I think the $10 limit sounds good.

I kind of like the gift grab method.  I think it is fun to see people trade gifts!

$10 limit and the 20th or 21st would be the best.

Also, does anyone know if and when the Garrison/Base is doing the Salvation Army Bell Ringing?  Just to make sure that things don't get complicated.

Though, I am seriously looking at the 1,000,000 limit, Paul...  The only problem is that it would take too long to get the gold plated, A.I. driven R2-D2 built by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Do a pick a person to exchange with!  Don't do the white elephant gift in the middle of the room thing because it always ends in a person pissed because they spent more or got something cooler than they received.  I have been to a ton of white elephant gift parties and they ALWAYS end in disaster.  Trust me.

Way to be a grinch Rob.... j/k

Secret Santa gets my vote as well, although I'm for a $20 limit and leaning towards the 13th or 14th

The Bell ringing is usually in December. Second week, I think.

This might sound rather blasphemous....

But, what about a New Years Eve get together...

We could exchange gifts then also and celebrate the New Year as a unified Base/Garrison.

Not trying to steal thunder from anyone, but it might work better with everyone's schedule.

XD I appreciate it Bill, but I understand it's hard to cater to everyone's schedule.

I like Jason's idea since I'll actually be around then, all blasphemy aside.

You know me, always have got to be the thorn in the collective side. I don't do the holidays, I pretty much despise them. It is just simply better for me to sit out parties rather than bring my damper mood to them.

I am more likely to make an appearance for New Year's, provided I am not picking up an extra shift somewhere - I'd rather made money on the holidays than be non-productive elsewhere. Personally, I wouldn't mind having a New Year's get-together. But not if there is a gift exchange.

Gift exchanges tend to make me uncomfortable. One of the reasons why I avoid celebrating holidays.

But that is just me. Don't let me spoil the mood for the rest of you pagans!

I like the idea of a get together before Christmas. We get bummed that we miss game nights and other activities because of our distance from portland. Like Allan said the 1st or 2nd weekend would work for us. Gift exchange sounds great although 20$ might be too much for some families who might have more than one person participating. New years eve would be fun... why not do both :?: Although i dont know if we could make it. I think it would alot of fun..always a good time when we hang out with the gang.

Sooooo, getting this back on track... when do we want to do this? Unfortunately, there just can't be a date that works for everyone (probably). Let's set a date the the most amount of  people are able to attend. I'd really like to see us start a yearly tradition with this! :D
