Title: That time of year again...Halloween!
Post by: grumpydevil on October 29, 2009, 10:42:03 AM
So, Jodi and I are going to a party in Eugene this Saturday and we'll be dressed as Batman and Catwoman (pictures to follow).

But in order to hopefully kick off some cool photo posts, I thought this was pretty brilliant costume idea (even though it isn't me) :) :

Ha, well definitely post some pics.  And if you need any tips on how to improve a Bat costume, I'm happy to help.

I've been spending almost every free moment since last weekend trying to get my Batman Begins armor mounted and everything situated properly.  I messed up on mounting the leg armor, and it will have to be redone, but I don't have time to do it so it will have to do for now.  Here's a few unfinished, in progress shots before the leg armor was added, and a shot after leg armor, and one of the back.  Nobody ever sees the back since the cape covers it, but I like to be as accurate as possible, and this is how the film suits were made.   :)

You'll also notice the biceps are a bit "floppy" but that's because I didn't glue them down yet as I need to add some foam padding and trim a bit...  my own biceps are so puny, without the foam they'd fold up and would look terrible.

If I can ever get trim enough, I'd probably down for the '66 Batman a la Adam West.

Allan's getting me talked into potentially doing an Adam West Bat suit...  So I'm keeping my eyes open and doing some research on that costume.   But I feel like I need to shed some extra lbs to pull that one off correctly.  Black molded rubber helps hide a lot of that.

Thanks to David ..LOL..This has been a fun turn.  I hope to have her batgirl done by first part of year. I am thinking about Riddler.. but I don't think I could pull it off.

Riddler would be awesome!  You could totally pull off a Frank Gorshin Riddler.  Would need to slick back your hair to get the right look, but could always go with the hat and jacket look rather than the more traditional tights.

allan, just wear some kind of loose boxers, PLEASE!. Or you could go the other way like the superhero, "Commander Courage",  Mark Hamill was trying to resurrect in the movie, "Comic Book: The Movie " and go with a HUGE codpiece. After all you are "Luke".   ......ol tony

Ha, "Comic Book: The Movie" is pretty funny.  I saw it recently when I was down in California, as my friend who makes a lot of my Bat armor is actually IN the movie!  He's in a few scenes that take place at the ComicCon, but he's primarily visible in the party scene at the apartment.  I think he said that was Billy West's apartment.

But yeah, that costume he wears is ridiculous.  Too funny.

It was the first time I've ever tried that shaving-it-down technique and it turned out ok...

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with that batman costume. It looks amazing.

I was thinking about wearing my TK Armor to the Guardian Games party tonight. However, I can't sit down in it very well. SO I'm probably going as Aeris the god of war.

Anyone else going to the Guardian Games party?

Mindie and I (I'm the TK) in front of our house on Ween. There were a handful of younglings that were too scared to come up our driveway to get candy..... SUCCESS!        ... just kidding, I was pretty scared when I was 4 and saw Stormtroopers whooping butt on the blockade runner.

After wearing two different Bat suits on Friday afternoon and evening, I decided to go with the TK on Saturday for Halloween.  We walked the neighborhood and everyone was coming out of their houses to get a look and take pics.  I didn't go up to any doors, but even parents inside handing out candy would see me and come out to the street or call me up to the house.

One situation was pretty great -- A lady saw me and said her husband is a huge Star Wars fan but just had surgery and can't leave his chair, so she asked if I would come in and talk to him and take some pics.  He was so amazed and said I made his day.  That was awesome.  I told them about the Legion and our charity work, and passed along the Garrison web address.

There was a kid dressed as Michael Jackson following us around all night and he kept saying I wasn't a real Stormtrooper.  No matter what I said, he wasnt buying it.  But after he saw all the reactions from adults and hearing me talk to them about our charity work, he finally looked at me and finally realized I was a real Stormtrooper.  He got so excited, he ran home and got a camera to take pics.

What a great weekend.  I love Halloween.  :)

It was only a gift certificate. No real cash, unfortunately. I wish I had the cash, though. I could use it.

Where is the gift certificate to?  Sometimes you can find people who would be interested in buying it from you.  I think there's even a gift card exchange web site for that, or even Craigslist.  Usually you don't get a full 1:1 trade value, but sometimes it's worth it to have a little less cash you can use anywhere, than a little more for a place you don't need or want to spend it at.

It was for the bar/restaurant that I was at. The logged my name, so I am the only one who can use it. Not a big deal. I wasn't even expecting to win a costume contest. As a result, I have $200 worth of food and drink afforded to me to use whenever I want. Not such a bad deal for parading around in my Mando gear.

Who says this hobby doesn't pay?

My boyfriend and I got all Star Wars'd up at a Spokane Chiefs game and won their costume contest, too. Our prize wasn't nearly as awesome, but we did get a bunch of team gear and stuff.

Finally got some of the best pics from my Halloween Bat photo shoot resized for posting.  It was a lot of fun and I'm glad a few of the shots turned out as nice as they did.  I think I'm going to do some larger prints at Costco and frame for my "Bat Cave" room.  :)
