Why: $1000 donation for DCH
Type: 501st - Cannon (We need movie accurate costumes)
Date: Monday, June 11th
Time: 9am arrival (10-11am skit)
Where: Convention Center (Portland, OR)
We'll be in the Oregon Ballroom. (See map below.)

Map: http://www.oregoncc.org/parking/images/ParkentranceOCC.gif
Tektronix is holding its annual worldwide sales meeting and they would like to do a little skit for the Video group. They sell a lot of equipment to LFL so they'd like to incorporate Star Wars into this year's skit, which is performed in front of about 400 sales people from around the globe.
They are looking for as many stormtroopers they can get to help "enforce" copyright protection. I don't have the detailed script yet, but basically it sounds like they'll do some talking, play some movie clips, then over the loudspeaker they'll say something about being in violation of copyright laws. At that point a couple of troopers will enter through the doors onto the stage and take up posts on either side. Once the speaker finishes his presentation (he's a VP at Tek), the doors will blast open and out will roll the "enforcement" party who will forcefully take the VP into custody and drag him off stage.
I'd like to get firm commitments from everyone by Friday, June 8th. It's a great opportunity to make a big contribution for our #1 charity. They can help a lot of kids with that $1000, so let's step up and make this happen folks. Let's show Tektronix and DCH the strength of CCG and the Empire!

-
I should be availiable :)
-
Excellent, thanks P-.
-
Todd, if it could be pushed back to 11 I could make it :P I have work. :(
-
I think folks are a little taken aback at my 'work day' comment... In knowing most of you and your abilties to retort, I hope it is known that it is totally with humor and frivolity do I make such statements.....I see them often here, so I know this group can take it....... Anyone offended, apologies offered.
BA
-
Sounds like a blast! I would love to make this one, I will check with my supervisors and see if it is possible to come in late.
-
Isn't retort some sort of cake-like dessert?
Although I can't make this one due to Monday's being the busiest "paperwork" day of the week for me, I find it OUTRAGEOUSLY FUNNY and IRONIC that a bunch of folks wearing SW armor which is techincally in violation of copyright laws (foriegn AND domestic) doing a skit for a presentation to LFL representatives about copyright enforcement!!!      oh... my sides are aching ATM!!!
-
I thought that was the best part too Tony!
(Barry - I thought being Vader meant never having to say you're sorry!)
-
I thought that was the best part too Tony!
So did I.....
(Barry - I thought being Vader meant never having to say you're sorry!)
Hmm..yeah, you're right. But then remember my famous statement about how lenient I can be: "The Emporer isn't as forgiving as I".
-
Todd how long will it last? I would like to do this but would we be done before noon?
-
I didn't think you got out of bed before noon!
-
 I don't know the time for certain yet, but I strongly suspect we'd be done before noon. Typically they do these sorts of things as a kick-off in the general morning session before they break out for classes. My best guess is around 8-9am, so you'd be done and out of there by 10am or so. I'll be getting more info this week so we can lock down the time and number of participants.
I'm really hoping for at least 6 of us to commit by the end of this week so we can push for a high $ donation. If we can't pull enough folks together (or the company doesn't want to donate at that level), then I'll cancel so they have enough time to get another act.
-
I'll put myself down as a maybe. If the kick in a good donation to DCH I will make sure I make it.
-
I am definitely in. 8)
-
Put me down as a yes, I'll be tired.. but I'll be there :)
-
Monday June 11th is day number one of my jury duty
If my group doesn't get selected for duty that day, you could end up with an additional TK.
...just in case though, don't count me on your roster.
-
Quick update. . . I pushed her for a decision on the donation and she said the meeting with the agency is on Thursday, so she'll know by then. I've been fairly stong about the "no dough, no show" message, so hopefully we get some positive news.
-
Yet another update... Corp Comm didn't balk at the idea, but they also didn't give us a solid thumbs up. They asked for an estimate on the DCH donation amount, so I told them we'd scale the attendance level based on the donation size. Starting at $1000, we'd guarantee 6 troopers. If they chip in more, we'll send more troops.
So... if they come through with the donation, then I'm really counting on some firm commitments from folks in the garrison. This could be the most sizable donation of the year!
I should hear back from them by tomorrow. If they don't respond until Wed, then it's going to be "best effort" regardless of the donation size. They recognize that we donate our time and we need advance notice to get the time off from our day jobs. (Yes, despite what Bob Eubanks said during the Rose Parade... many of us do indeed have day jobs.)

Alright folks, it's a go. They have the dough, so now we've gotta show! They are ponying up $1000 for Doernbechers, so let's step up and do it right. I know it's tough for people to get the morning off, but I'm committed to delivering at least 6 stormtroopers to enforce the laws of the Empire.
I've updated the first post, but here's the key point...
I'm still getting the details of exactly when we need to be there, so stay tuned. I'll start an official roster once I know the exact times. I'm looking for a 100% firm commitment, so please keep that in mind when you sign onto the roster. (Obviously we don't want to embarass us or Tektronix by only showing up with 2 troopers and expecting a $1000.) Since this is also an official gig, I've flagged it as 501st cannon.
-
as long as we don't get arrested for copywrite enfringement...im there.
-
OK, Dave & Paul are on board. Thanks!!!
-
As stated before, I start jury duty that day so cannot commit showing up until after I know if my group will be called in. I won't know until after 5pm Sunday night.
:!:sorry - correction: I won't know until after 5:15pm FRIDAY night! (helps to fully read instructions, huh?)
-
Scot - I need 6 for sure, but anyone over that is a bonus for us. So please keep reading this thread and come if you can make it. It'd be great to have you there.
I've updated the first post with more details. We need to be there to suit up at 9am on Monday. The skit starts at 10am and will run about 45-60 minutes, so we should be done around 11am. I also offered that some of us would be willing to stick around for photos through lunch time. So if you're interested, I think we can do that. If you need to bail at 11, feel free.
(BTW - There is a dry run on Sunday night, but I'll attend that and just give you guys the rundown when you show up on Monday morning. It shouldn't be anything too complex.)
-
I will check with my bosses (work and home) and I should be able to say for sure on Thursday.
-
My fiance is availiable that day as well, however she doesn't have a costume or anything. If we come up short on bodies, maybe we can throw some armor on her?
-
DaveH - TK (Dave, please be sure to where your white armor for this one.)
Todd don't you want him to "WEAR" it? Where should he WEAR it?
ps-TX(Stealth) is NOW cannon. :D

-
:D :) :( :o
-
Bump. C'mon folks.
-
Todd, I hate to do this, but any other day I would be in :(. My daughter had some serious health issues a few years back and I'll be up at DCH that morning for her annual heart check. Not something easy to reschedule. I am willing to donate my armor if you have a body.
-
Thanks for the heads up Jim. Don't worry, I think we'll be able to get by with what we've got so far, but thank you for the offer!
-
Whats the head count so far?
-
I could come, but it would have to be 11.
-
Nick - We'll need to be suiting up around 9am for a 10am appearance. We might slide back to 10:15, but I doubt it will be later than that.
Rob - Any chance you'll be making it? We'll be done by 11 or so, then you're free to go. Or hang around through lunch for photos.
Dave - I just updated the roster thread. Looks like 6 for sure, but it would be great if others could make it. $1000 is a lot of dough, so I want to make sure our presence is worth it.
-

I have to work 9am-8pm that day. Sorry. I really wanted to make it.
-
Just saw the roster.... GOOD DEAL!! I was feeling bad that I couldn't step up for this one. We should get these CCG "stand-ins" some armor so they can troop in their OWN BOOTS!! :P
-
Good trooping, we should have two more in armor very soon!
And Dave, thanks again for taping my calves

Ka-Ching :!: That's $1000 towards a good cause.
Thanks everyone for making this possible. It was a short gig, but high impact. Lots of folks commented throughout the day. I'll post the pics once I get them from the photographer covering the event.
-
Yes, what a great contribution they made. Thanks, Todd for sending it in.

Whens that gallery going up?
-
Gallery is up and ready for your treasure troves of photos!
-
Ok, I posted the 2 I shot of Paul, Danielle, and Paul. I've contacted Tek to get access to the professional photographer photos they were supposed to take. I'll post them when I get a reply.
-
Cool!! I'm sure it looked pretty impressive on those BIG SCREENS!!
-
New photos uploaded. We got 4 from the photographer.
BTW - The check is working its way through the internal system and should see daylight in about a week. I'll print up a card and one of the photos to mail up there with the check.
-
That looked like it would've been fun....those look like pretty hi-up Exec. types on stage!!!!
-
I just received the actual check from accounts payable! DCH got their $1000 :!: :!: :!:
I'll print up a nice thank you card, include some of the event photos, and mail it out to DCH in Thursday's mail.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
-
Wow, excellent, Todd! Do you have the info. I gave you for sending it in?
Barry
-
Yup, I'm all set. Thanks Barry!
-
Thanks so much to everyone involved!!!
-
DCH sent a nice response thanking us. I scanned it in for folks to see. I'll bring the original to the next event for our PR team to archive.

Good Job Mr. Todd!! :D
-
Todd, everyone is all the better thanks to your efforts. DCH gets a check, Tektronix gets a gig with Troopers, and Todd gets to screw around at work
:D Seriously, thanks for pulling this together. Great Job!!
