Revised and reposted 6/17/14Basic Netiquette for CCG/KB ForumHere are some basic suggestions for making our forum easier for everyone to use.
Creating Non-Event Topics- If you're new here, please introduce yourself in a new thread.
- Don’t start a duplicate topic for something that is already being discussed elsewhere. If a topic needs to be moved so that it’s seen by a different audience, please notify a moderator.
- Title your posts appropriately to describe the contents of the topic.
- Avoid using all capital letters for a post title. Use all caps sparingly within your posts. Sentences written in all caps are harder to read and might be interpreted as yelling.
- If you need to use a forum post to get a specific person’s attention, delete your topic as soon as you’ve established a connection.
Posting in Topics- Don’t use forum topics to carry on private conversations; use private messages or email instead.
- Try to keep your replies on topic to the original post. If you want to go off-topic, start a new thread or send a private message.
- Avoid quoting a previous post if there are no other posts in between that post and your new post.
- Be selective in your use special formatting (colored fonts, colored backgrounds, font size, etc). Special formatting generally decreases overall readability of your posts.
- Consider using a browser plug-in to check your spelling/grammar/punctuation before posting to increase the readability of your posts.
Images- Consider providing links to photos instead of posting the photos inline in your post. Images make topics take longer to load, are difficult to view on mobile devices, and increase the need for scrolling through topics.
- Resize pictures before adding them inline to your post.
- Don’t quote a previous post that has a boatload of images. If you want to reference a specific photo, quote just that photo.
- Choose profile and signature images carefully. Large and animated images can make topics more difficult to load and scroll through.
Moderators will update, consolidate, move, or remove posts when such changes make it easier for readers to follow topics on the board.
