Title: ATTENTION OMSI VOLUNTEERS/ATTENDEES
Post by: Rosey on July 10, 2007, 04:13:01 PM
Anyone who has an OMSI volunteer badge either needs to turn it in or retire it immediately.  Read below:

Hi Ara!  We had a situation arise last weekend in which some Cloud City Garrison volunteers came to OMSI and showed their VIP name badges and OMSI volunteer name badges and asked to be admitted to the Body Worlds exhibit.  It was a family of two adult men and a boy and a girl.  They were admitted, and one of our Educator staff, Sue Wu, talked with them, but she wasn't certain at the time that they were not active volunteers.

When the Cloud City Garrison volunteers finished volunteering for Star Wars, they should have turned in their OMSI name badges.  So it surprised our staff when these volunteers arrived, since they didn't expect that they would still have their badges.

Could you let others in the group know that they need to turn in their name badges or at the very least, not expect to be able to use them for free admission to OMSI?  I would sure appreciate your help with this.  If they were to mail them back to us, they should address the envelope to OMSI Volunteer Services, 1945 SE Water Ave, Portland, OR 97214.

Thanks!

It is important for us to maintain a good relationship with OMSI for further events, so please don't try to use your badge--especially seven months after our latest event.

Thank you!

Wow, that's embarassing. I don't have one but let's hope we stay in good standing with them and clear this up.

thanks Ara.

One was made for me, but I never did get back to OMSI and pick it up. Can we check off the OMSI badge issued roster with those who went?? Narrow down the search a bit.
Does OMSI have security cameras?  We can do this fast and painless, or slow and agonizing   How upsetting though, it's our reputation on the line. I'd personally like to be invited back to OMSI.

I'm not even sure where mine is at or if I still have it.  On another note has anyone seen the new exihibit?  I really want to go, but my wife refuses.  Is it kid appropriate...like ages 5 & 6?

It's fine if you don't turn it in--just don't use it.

I'm e-mailing them for a description of the people.

NO!!!!!!!!!  It's cool but unless you want to stay up with your kids for about a year don't take them.  It's kinda creepy.

Ara, if you are at liberty to say.....was it CCG members, or  members from another garrison ?? Just thinking that...do we need to have this kind of procedure be monitored?

Ara and I know who it is, and for now that is enough.  If they wish to come forward, that is there call, but from me their will remain anonymous.  They have stated that they will make reparations to OMSI, and that is sufficient for me.

One question, were they using OMSI volunteer badges (with pictures), AND the IDs the Garrison handed out? I have an OMSI volunteer badge with picture, for working 50 hours during the Exhibit. I hope you're not telling people to turn those in (even though you found the persons that did it), becuase they are EARNED by the person by doing 50 hours of volunteer work.

When people were trained, they got an ID badge with their picture on it.  That was to be surrendered by all people.  Folks that did 50 hours get a special membership badge that states that 50 hours of volunteer time was done to earn that badge.  The badge that you received for training has a picture on it.  I got one, I turned it in.  The ID badge that you got for training was to be surrendered as per the request of OMSI.

Actually, I never received anything that said I completed 50 hours--I just got a free membership that was valid until 5/31/2007.

As Martin said, those volunteer badges that were issued via the orientation with your pictures on them have to be surrendered if OMSI asks for them.  While I understand these badges have sentimental value, they do not belong to us.  They belong to OMSI.  If they ask for them, we need to give them back.  It's like a gym card--when you join, you agree to give it back when you leave.  It's in the verbiage of the documents you sign when you agree to be a volunteer.

The Star Wars special access badges (black, no picture) are fine to keep.  :-)
