Title: Biker Scout in Progress
Post by: Fox on August 25, 2023, 10:31:07 AM
RS Prop Masters is taking orders again.

When I first thought about getting some armor I couldn't decide between a Trooper and Scout. I was thinking of going with RS and wanted to take advantage of their black Friday sale. Had a couple questions by the time I got all the answers I wanted the sale was over. I ended up finding a used Anovos TK from a dude with my body weight. I'm not a collect them all collector. Eventually I will stop. If I could only make one more build before stopping it would have to be the Scout. I was very close to making an X-Wing next, but the Scout is the one I would regret never getting.

Paying for it with their payment plan method. That way I can trick my brain to thinking I'm not spending that much money even though I still am.

Step 1: Scout Armour from RS Prop Masters - Order Placed.

Step 2: Scout Soft Goods from Keep Trooping - Waiting for next wave order period. I could have ordered these with RS but they didn't have all the sizes listed.

Step 3: Find a Scout Blaster - I could have also ordered this from RS but they're offering a premium price blaster. I find the Scout Blaster to be so tiny and lacking details. I don't see the need to go all out. I will be asking for opinions on scout blasters I find and taking suggestions.

Found 2 blasters on etsy that I'm considering. Both resin casts. One assembled and one you got to finish. Look accurate to me, but I haven't spent months studying every detail of the scout blaster.

Those both look good to me, might be nice to know how heavy the resin blaster is? It might suck to have a small brick around your ankle!

Strength training for my super kick?

Exactly! You can always run without a blaster if it ends up being heavy, never a requirement.

Wrong glove but you get the idea.

Did a bit more research. Read some good comments about Blaster Works. Pictures look good and in scale. Read that was more durable and could take a beating intrigued me. Maybe more than I was planning on spending but still less than RS.

This prop feels like a good middle choice. Downside is the chemical rubber smell. Hope that goes away.

Purchased the soft parts biker set from Keep Trooping. They got a sale going on. The discount helps since shipping is so high. Wish I looked at the entire site before hitting buy. Several items I need for future builds are on sale. Buy them now and complete them a year later but already spending enough right now for this scout build.

Scout soft goods are on their way. They are using a shipper called SF express. Never heard of them. They are a real company based in China. I assume it going passed along to usps or fedex or ups to handle the finally leg of the journey.

My order was delayed for nearly a week. China had this week-long holiday. Stuff is moving again on a plane on it's way to Los Angeles.

Today I got and didn't get what I ordered.

The whole cummerbund came unassembled. Pockets need to be sewed now. Velcro pieces sewed on, and the cummerbund cut to size. I don't really sew.

The jump suit is a 1 size smaller than what I ordered. It still fits but I look on the slim side.

RS Prop Masters has shipped your Big Brown Box!

Once I get it should be around the same time Keep Trooping is expected to send me the correct soft goods. I'll be emailing them asking for a progress report once the armor arrives. I can do a test with the incorrect soft goods but they're unusable without modifications. Like cutting off circulation in my legs.

Keep Trooping sent me a tracking number. Which means (if I get the correct soft goods) I'll have everything I need to complete this costume. With some alterations could finish this by the end of the month.

Got my armor and correct soft goods.

First test fitting armor with soft goods. Keep in mind that the cod piece is held up by a loose knot. I have to sew on the Velcro. Cummberbund is held up by fiction. With the jumpsuit on the two ends of the main belt don't even touch. Camera is in auto-mode making things too bright.

A few observations.

1. While you can dress yourself (as I did). I think it would help to have someone make fine adjustments.

2. Neck seal pretty much just there to traps in all that body heat.

3. The lower edge knee armor really digs in. Have to add padding of some sort.

4. Helmet starts to open when you bend over. Might add some Velcro to keep it shut. Face plate in the fully open position locks in place but makes a popping sound when pulling it back down. I'm not going to lock it in place like this as I fear over time it will cause it to crack.

5. The bigger Jumpsuit feels better. Those elastic thigh straps were cutting off the circulation in my legs.

Things I need to work on:

1. Attach Velcro to cod piece.

2. Create a bridge for the belt. Thermal detonator should be long enough to cover it.

3. Cummerbund is too long. In one picture you can see that I wrapped one end under the other. Black strap I'm holding is to show where the Cummerbund closes in the back. I think it too far off from the center I'll have to trim some of the length off. Guess I'm buying one of those handheld sewing machines. Plus sew on the pouches.

Made an almost $100 Amazon order on supplies. Have to replace Velcro, webbing and stuff.   Next weekend is going to be a busy weekend.

Your progress looks great!
I would not recommend you using Velcro on your helmet, as it would put stress on the helmet since you would need to pull it apart each time you want to lift up the faceplate. I would recommend using small rare earth magnets instead.
For the knee armor, I bought the cheap foam knee pads at Home Depot and just cut them up to fit in the back of the armor.
Good choice on a rubber blaster. As Luke mentioned, the resin ones are much heavier and will weigh down your boots when you put it in your holster. I used to have a resin blaster and I dropped it during the Starlight parade and it broke, so I switched to the much durable rubber blaster instead.

I'll check out those foam pads.
My Amazon order included a mini-sewing machine that I'm returning. After doing an okay job on one task it confirmed that all the 1-star reviews were true. Did the rest by hand sewing. My belt and cod no longer need to hold together by safety pins.
