Step 1 of the armor repaint project is to see how the new paint (see prior post) holds up on the boots.

I painted over the top of the existing VHT vinyl dye, without any prep.

It took a heavy coat to cover, the material was soaking in the paint.  This proved to be a bad technique since the paint stayed tacky for over 12 hours.  I was worried that it was never going to cure, but it finally did.

I love the color and the paint seems pretty durable.

Next step is to test paint one of the shoulder bells.  Once that is done I will disassemble everything and repaint it all.

Did a paint test on the armor, right on top of the VHT Vinyl Dye, which also had a gloss clear coat.  I did a light sanding for prep.

New paint top, old paint bottom:

I liked the results so I went forward with more pieces.

Thanks guys.  I am spoiled with the garage in my new house.  It's a 4-car tandem + workshop + bonus room.  But there is no overhead storage, so the back of the garage is all boxes.

Anyway, I removed all of the greeblies from the helmet.

Gave the helmet a first coat.

Also painted a first coat on the chest armor and back armor, and put a second coat on the shoulders bells, straps, and chestbox.

I am so jealous of the work space you have! I have recently made a deal to trade use of garage work space for beer. We do what we have to!

Now that Dengar is done it was time to get back to this repaint.

Painted the black helmet details.

Gloss black spray for the trident:

Trident came out great.

Gloss black brush-on for the mouth and chin:

The brush-on didn't turn out so great.  Lots of tape leakage that I'm gonna need to fix.

So is this a new bucket or just a repaint of the old one?

This the same bucket and armor, just repainting to a lighter shade of gray.

More progress today.

I needed to paint the helmet tubes to match my chest tube.  Out of the 6 shades of gray that I have I decided that the VHT gray seemed to match the best.

So I painted them.

But it turned out the vinyl dye did not adhere well to the previous paint and cracked really bad.  So I'm gonna try to remove all of the paint from the tubes and start over, or possibly find new tubes.

Then I corrected the paint leakage around the frown and chin, painted all of the red details, and started putting some greeblies back on the helmet.

Then I started adding greeblies back onto the chestbox (ignore the magnet next to the pulleys, it's helping to glue something on the inside).

I finished adding all of the greeblies to the chestbox.

Next I added the tube stripe and cog decals to the helmet.

I ordered new helmet tubes (Blockade Supply/Matt Nelson) and new clock arms/gears (shapeways) for the helmet.  I can finish off the helmet when those arrive.

I also ordered an new piece of plexiglass to remake the back armor circuit board.

Then the last item will be to get the new hoses cut and shaped.
