Nice work!

I've got a canister as well with the resin greeblies... You mind sharing where you got the UHF connectors?   That's on my list of to-do's as well.

As far as "accurate" goes on a full scale version of this, my opinion is go with what looks good and is feasible for you.  There's only a few of these out there and pretty much all of them took creative liberty on some things.  There's only a handful of people in the world that would even notice, and even then... F em.

Keep going and feel free to reach out anytime with this build.  I've built a few things and this is on my list.  I've compiled some reference material for when I begin mine.

Thanks Greedo! Yeah, I'm going to go as close to accurate as I can but there are areas where it's just going to be different. All I care about is that it looks cool and is recognizable. I'm especially taking liberties with the legs and feet and working off the Sideshows toy for those parts.

On the UHF connectors, I ordered 10 for $13 off of eBay. I have 4 left that you are welcome to have. They look much sharper than the resin ones, so I'm happy about those.

And thanks for the help offer! I'm sure I'll run into stuff and have questions, so don't be surprised if I reach out! Thank you!

Alright, well, I went ahead and glued in the red tinted acrylic.

20180620_110014 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Still trying to figure out the internal lighting and every option I've come across is too dark, except for the regular old light bulb on my desk lamp:

20180620_110047 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20180620_110058 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

I may try to figure out a way to install the lighting apparatus in the neck area so that the whole head receives the same amount of light. All other options I've tried have been a bit poor and the light amount is disappointing, but I really like this!

Now to get way out of order, because I've been doing some of this while parts of the head are drying, I started working on shins. First, I kept going to the hardware store for more PVC pipe in different sizes. Thought it would be funny to share what I've accumulated...

20180620_143222 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Also, there's different types of PVC pipe. Thick wall and thin wall. If you want 1 1/4" to fit inside 1 1/2", you need the 1 1/2" to be the thin wall. Lesson learned and I have some wasted pipe now:

20180618_192246 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

So, the first thing, to try to give the shins some extra support, I put some pipe in the top of his ankles:

20180618_195208 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Then, I added some trim pieces to what will be the shin and some holes so I can attach it all together:

20180619_142621 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20180619_140355 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And I ended up with this:

20180619_145249 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20180619_145252 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Today, I added some Bondo so that I can get a smooth transition between the side and the front:

20180620_100002 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

I'm going to let that dry and then I'll be sanding it down for days!

Then, I started thinking about knees and thighs, so I went back to the hardware store and found some pieces I need. I figure these will be the thighs:

20180620_151614 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Have I mentioned how much I love my Dremel? Seriously, it's the best tool in the world:

20180620_153623 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

So, my thighs, once epoxied together, will look roughly like this:

20180620_153715 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And, all along, I've been thinking about how I'm going to do the knees. Still working off the Sideshow toy here, so I'm cutting this ABS:

20180620_154346 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And will heat bend it at the lines and then attach it to these pieces of 1 1/2" pipe and then they will kind of float free.

20180620_154945 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Hopefully I can get the knees sorted out soon and then get the sanding done on the shins. I still have some trim pieces to the feet that I want to add and then I have a lot of hoses and greeblies that will be needed on the legs. Then I can start to try to figure out the hips.

That's it for now. Enjoy the sun!

Have you thought about LED strips inside the head?   I did that on my Dagobah Fusion Lantern and it works great.  They have self adhesive backings, so you just wrap the inside in the places you want light to be at.

Here’s what I used:

https://www.amazon.com/PryEU-Lights-Automotive-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B00YXBEQ52/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1529547495&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=red+led+strip+lights&psc=1

Since you’ve already done red lenses, you could just use clear LED strips.

Was just at target and seen a led light bar and this project jumped to mind and I wondered if that would be an option. Not the bar but the led strips.

Yes! I think those would be perfect! Thank you for the input.

Very small update today as work was pretty busy.

I got the knees put together:

20180621_095728 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And they kind of just float free on the legs:

20180621_155721 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Then, I epoxied the thighs together and started to figure out the side details. Figured I may as well continue to use piping, so I cut what I would need and the wood for it:

20180621_150848 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And I got this general thing:

20180621_152345 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Need to have 4 total, but they will be attached at the side of the thighs like this with additional piece of wood and some details on the top, where some hose will attach.

20180621_155710 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Pretty sure I can hammer out the other two tomorrow and then I need to clean them up so that they are flat on the bottom and top of each transition as they look a bit messy now, but I guess that's what you get when you cut pipe with scissors...

Tornado through my office! Well, not really. But, about knee deep in parts and pieces and half used and then discarded ideas, I had to take picture to fully capture the madness. And madness, with this project specifically, is an accurate term.

20180627_183321 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

So, I left off with knees completed and a thought for the thighs. In the mean time, I sanded and then added another layer of Bondo to the shins. I've sanded it down again and it's about as smooth as it's going to get until the filler primer stage.

Otherwise, I've been plugging away very slowly and needed 4 of these things:

20180626_135332 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

And they need a top as there are hoses that go through them. I made too many but they were able to be torn apart and salvaged:

20180627_103145 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Then, I've been wanting to add an additional trim piece to the feet, so I found these in the electrical section, or plumbing, I don't know...

20180627_093757 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Cut them up and have these:

20180627_100249 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Added to the front and back for additional details:

20180627_102059 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

May need to add some more details coming off the front as they still look a bit plain, but they match the Sideshow toy much better now.

Then I built some thigh greeblies where hoses come out of the front and then attach at the back:

20180627_112246 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20180627_152205 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

These were able to be bolted on before I attached the thighs to the shins:

20180627_155913 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Then, I added the thighs to the shins and have a pretty good start at both legs being close to being done.

20180627_185142 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

Added some more furniture sliders to cover bolts. Seriously, these things have so many uses!

20180627_190422 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

20180627_190430 by Michael Halstead, on Flickr

There are some additional greeblies and hoses that I'm going to add but I really need to clean up my office so I can do my real job tomorrow. Then, I get to start noodling the hips, which I'm a bit stumped about how they are going to happen. Stay tuned.
