Title: Finally got the chance and opportunity, read as girlfriend approval, to pull the trigger on an ANOVO
Post by: Rat on December 21, 2016, 07:59:48 PM
I've already got my Rubies blaster, TK Boots, materials for the neck seal, under suit, gloves and building brackets now. So excited and happy, it may have taken a year almost, but finally I'll hopefully have a kit by my birthday (September) next year.

I have a Rubies that I painted and weathered already. I do plan on eventually getting something more accurate down the road though.

So in deciding to go with an Anovos kit, because payment plan, I finally paid that off now just waiting to pay my shipping fee. One step closer and it looks like this will most likely be a birthday arrival for that BBB.

So it's totally official now, shipping paid and now the wait. Their schedule says a summer delivery but from what I've heard we will see.
But I'm just stoked to finally be an official owner of a TK kit.

Alright so after little sleep and running errands the trimming has begun. Main body parts, an buttons, hand plates rough trimmed so far. Doing biceps and shoulder bells now.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/8d5f11acb520972632ab97eb75a3bf75.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/368e91b42470727af94c44a0a27c997a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/b88386943b84f0a13ff693dcdc7e1177.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/05eb6776f67627f762c10eec1d17d172.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/901741dcfe3dfc3a7efc70085b7a4601.jpg)

Alright! Big brown box day! Nice to see that your armor is finally here!

Some of the Anovos guys can chime in with more up to date info, but if I remember right the trim lines were pretty generous (lots of extra) for some of the parts.

Triple check CRL requirements for return edges, etc. Some of the spots you'll need to take off more than what Anovos suggests.

Yup, they were generous enough that they fit my fat larger frame. An average person should have plenty of room to work with in theory. Always start large though!

I think the only return edge that goes against Anovos's instructions is the forearm around your wrist. That just goes away entirely. That being said, if you aren't already, I'd mostly ignore Anovos and follow this guide instead. https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/35086-ukswraths-anovos-tk-build/

Yeah so far I've only trimmed to the ANOVOS lines and can tell I'll be trimming more on some of it. I have by and large ignored their instructions. Tonys thread is pretty good. I have going over. Mike "TK1636" video series on YouTube really good and informative for the kit. The new ones have unassembled belts, though they still place the snaps, and added pads to the bucket instead of the liner. Wrist return edge is already off. 2/3rds of the way through the rough trim now.

Finished rough trimming everything out today, even remembered to get rid of the return edge on the forearms. Now to move on to the fitting and final trimming. Looking over the bucket I realized I definitely need to repaint the frown and possibly fix the right ear. Just glad it fits me comfortably. I also retrimmed the hand plates down to 5mm.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180112/b8ae1c52824341e64f4d37e5b914dbb8.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180112/ba892b67d4187dca502bd3f3ba3757b7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180112/2b25d91c39f812d3f065b9031b7e719b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180112/2e7cdea69804e25be9b88c7f040408e9.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180112/636b18659f41f6e3e132aec5fe3b59a7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180112/85287162fb69ad3e79882fe68678e311.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180112/4efddb93b9135239e8f566d93a08afe9.jpg)

i wouldn't worry about the ear to much.. if you look at a lot of the ref pics there is gaps and imperfect ears. the back side looks fine.. maybe a little closing of the gap by the Tube Stripes but likely not a huge issue.

you are cranking through it! that's a lot of trimming in a day!!!

Don’t worry about the ear. The gaps on one of mine are at least that much and I am an EIB level TK. Put your time and energy into the rest of that kit!

So started fitting and hoping I didn't mess it up and got it right. It isn't real pretty but it fits and I'll moist likely be trimming the return edge down more. It has a little bite to it, but it hasn't been sanded or anything yet.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180113/ade2061cac50a53c78d2f1c500680c10.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180113/caeadebc693da791ea4afa079e61751c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180113/2982c1c52848b9929e97e5f15685fdd3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180113/f0638ee55ed47ef21c3712e916d9e53b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180113/a095d2242716ac33697097df05a3cfb2.jpg)

I generally went with about 1/2 of the Anovos suggested return edge.

Thanks Daryl. So about 2 to 3 mm right? Just had replies over at FISD from Tony and Paul saying remove all the return edge from the wrist and inner elbow and leaving minimal on the outer elbow. So I figure the 2-3mm as that is about half of what is there.

A little more done. Forearms, biceps and shoulder bells sized, trimmed and sanded, ready for gluing. I think anyways. Most of the back, kidney, butt are trimmed and sanded. Still have the legs to go. Also started the belt, but realized I have no mounting hardware for the holster so went went to ANOVOS and talked about that waiting to see what happens there.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/11f3db3acd16761da57ba5b23e6f5fb3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/14b4573605dcee59d472e4718ad75853.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/7e80293c4b1574e687b6d488c2523ef1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/3057136899b7f27d72c9b9fd2d8af7ae.jpg)

id say just hit home depot for some chicago screws to mount your holster rather then waiting for Anovos.. i wanna say they are 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch.. once you get it mounted make sure you toss some super glue or thread lock inside the screw becuase they back off really easy.. i had my holster almost fall off one day when i was getting out of it.

Good to know and it is likely I will do the trip rather than wait on anovos. I also need to get some rivets for the ammo knee.

You will likely need to order the rivets from the fisd board.. I think cap rivets are hard to find at Alot of home improvement stores.. Maybe an ace would have them

So got a little more done drop boxes glued, belt attached and rivet covers placed. Glued the elastic to boxes and top corners of fabric belt, trying to avoid the "droop" issue with the anovos belt. I also came across a couple of rivet issues but have gotten some feedback over at FISD about dealing with them. I've also started gluing the biceps, but may trim just a little more before closing them up.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180121/a13763ef79724bd68fc5e338b81859a5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180121/b400e1048dab14528be0c03001aa18a7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180121/bba7a70adc0a332bfcba0475fb7e52d0.jpg)

I have thighs and shins and pretty sure I'll have no trimming to do, I may be wrong I'll leave it to the folks who know more.  My only thoughts for trimming is possibly the lower part of the thigh and the ankle but not sure.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180126/86bb7a919b609394fe93d7173142e2f9.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180126/165c7965da85c41c600c3bb966aa2be1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180126/260fe52d3eb85c4b6a419329b5ec0908.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180126/27d48098a9a2389c310311fb6daec550.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180126/172232a260748b0fb39e02754fc6cd60.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180126/4629d4763e9068f4524e7d40b370ee7c.jpg)

Yeah they fit well and comfortably so I doubt I will trim them anymore than what I have so far. This is just at the initial anovos line. I also found a use for the supplied white velcro.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180127/7eccc4c034d36e3f8a1fe91d126b5cca.jpg)

Overcoming slight rivet issue. Clipped them down and then used some of the material I have for my neck seal to cover them. Decided to go ahead and make the straps for the thigh garters.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180127/eb2eef89df22c94ac00c48a70b47d16e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180127/d0f5b17c13ddba8948c3e626eb4bd1d3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180127/b8bfa8613b4a0c54fbda0d402c3cd4cb.jpg)

Is that the back of the shin? Yes just match the arch.  make sure it's even at the top first with no rwist

Yes it's the back of the shin. The tops are aligned and I still need to do the cover strips. I've also managed some inner strips for the shins. This was just a something I've been wondering about.

you could also just extend the cover strip to cover that mismatch.. really depends on how you want it to look sitting on your shoe in the back.. i think either way would be fine

Yeah I think I'm gonna have to think on that, but knowing me I'll probably trim them. I still have that forearm to contend with.

So I've come into a dilemma with the shins. Luckily I put my inner strips on the same sides so that I can interchange between the two sides. So I noticed that when I lined up the front tops that the rear didn't want to line up. Also the ankles had a definite longer and shorter side originally. However when I changed them to get the tops lined up the length difference went away. I'm also finding it difficult to get the sniper knee to fit properly. I have held off on gluing it all so far minus the inner strip. So any help here would be great before I proceed. Here are some picture after swapping the pieces, the tape is just to hold them together.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180130/b78f753ddf33f38b2e84b65038a3b1f1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180130/5d4336297b430da9fdb4f3ac094fccb4.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180130/a3e6d93a6cb8e2c549b308d4f4609c70.jpg)

So after surviving the household plague I'm back at it. Got some bicep clips done and gluing, fixing a piece of strapping for the shoulder bell, glued on the ab buttons and started gluing my forearms. It's gonna be slow, but getting there. Also did some final fitting with the things.

So about halfway through gluing the forearms, taking it slow and giving lots of cure time. Had a warping issue in using a heat gun for reshaping the right one. I don't think it stands out much, but for anyone that knows it will be noticeable.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180221/7a30a4834c4b8edc907344326f784fe8.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180221/13fe563ec1de11d521a03b6844898674.jpg)

So not sure this needs a picture or not, but my thighs and shins fit well with no real need to trim more. However the back of them don't line up great, the top and bottom butt together, but there's a slight gap in the middle and I'm not sure what to do. My concern is if I trim them more they'll be too tight. Any advice or ideas would be great.

So find myself in another quandry. Left forearm looks good, but the lower seam isn't meeting up at the return edge. Should I pull it and redo it or is it okay? It's on the bottom and unlikely to be seen, but not sure.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/f77af847ee5ebe97620a7f16f6881acb.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/99400d32fa2df63b9776ad0eb59b01fd.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/bbf2da7c2e796fa141486be09bbe3b8a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/5b245178fb13048eb28b54b2188554d8.jpg)

Got the word over on FISD that its good with the only concern being that the strip isn't covering enough. But it fits well and it feels solid.

So in waiting for the E6000 to cure on my right forearm and thigh cover strips. I'm doing them one side at a time, lack of magnets and it also lets me not rush through. I decided it was time to tackle the ab/kidney section. So I drilled holes for the split rivets and snaps and then got those in, they're not pretty, but they're in and secure.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180223/204162f1ffd8f70df1035e9d826e9a82.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180223/4504d226f2c3efcfdef5cc9dcaa53c58.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180223/5936cb65d4f1cf4c5663b84895820659.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180223/020a3f159355877fe93588358e6a471f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180223/28ba97ba7ff311c6b76a2d49946635d5.jpg)

So got out and got some supplies and started installing the brackets. I'm not sure I'll be able to use them, but it's not out of the question, just not sure. I'll find out definitely when I move to the ab. If they don't then I'll finish of the screws and then convert the strapping to the snap plates method and leave them for the look.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/3dab8a163337361390602c66ea06136e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/8c9aef9e080af5d4c8016241039c52dc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/d4927f8416720508fcbfb16e6ae667e5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/77934b230adfafce966cb1be839394e6.jpg)

Hoping to be entirely done building and approved before Solo. Right forearm should be cured by the time I get home tonight. Which means arms will be completed. Just started on the thighs and shins. Finished off drilling for brackets still need to make loops and sizing the body, but I don't think I'll need to do much there. Then painting buttons and frown and done.

So I believe I can call my arms done. Just need to attach the bicep and forearm. This is my right arm, the one I had to reshape due to accidentally trimming a bit too much. It's a tight getting my hand through the wrist, but after I get through it fits well.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180225/bb9fc7a5824b4608044da9f80025e083.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180225/66f5901e107a90aa65f12e79f56b7ad2.jpg)

So I decided to get back to the hard stuff. Shortened the thigh front cover strip. Dry fitting the repair area. Thinking I'll ca glue it to a improvised inner strip and then re-trim it after, but not sure if that's the right way to go. It makes sense to me for support and reinforcing. Also clipped down some scrap for abs paste. Then decided to put together my bra hooks and straps for the shin closure. I'm also working out how to get the rear cover strip flush.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180316/c236406b075f8d2bf6602550453ac365.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180316/e6b4f7334be8933547bbcb895b5555fa.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180316/3086a584b01f5e7bd68e7fdbf525a523.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180316/a824c2bad2a77ba05c62305b15fbac58.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180316/bed834061aa910a9a40a68bea79f8011.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180316/d52350e49eddf77d394126ef12e32885.jpg)

First coat of paste is down. I'll probably do a couple more before I call it good and solid. What is a good grit sandpaper for the sanding I have a 400 or 600 wet/dry that's probably working more like a 1000 or more?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180323/c3520eaa4c8839ab37cbb9935784d001.jpg)

basd on solvent welding my styrene droid I'd say give it a solid 24 hours prior to sanding.. especially right now as its not as warm out to drive the solvents out.  i would actually recommend starting at like 200grit and working your way up to the 400 then 600 wet. you may actually find that to get it super smooth to move to a 1200 after the 600.. then a plastic polish and a rag to take swirls and scratches out(usually the plastic polish is about 2k-3k grit) for that smooth plastic glass finish.

So after two coats on the top, three on the bottom and setting over night I gave it a quick once over sanding with some 60 grit, then 100, 220, 600 and a well used piece of 600 I think it may be ready for a polish.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180323/88eb0b446e13f0c87252879e5292b7dc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180323/0ed4f9dbdb04ae23fe087ff25502d176.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180323/376a1c1cbe29ade082f7d3662dee33cb.jpg)

No ammo pack, this is the left thigh, but the knee plate will help covering it as well.

So a quick update on my progress. I'm using the supplied strapping, but modifying it by adding snaps and using E-6000. Started getting my sew in snaps on and getting my shoulder elastic put on, but I'm not sure if I need to trim anymore any suggestions or advice is very welcome. I'm pretty sure I need to reshape the back plate shoulder strap and it seems my neck is really high and a bit narrow.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/fd8558a22a2d355f5cd49eb4ede24fb0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/903cd9c833e97fbe8b7e2f2e441c66f3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/63b192974f575a501965a67306bc6969.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/c06807b17997e3524bec95dd1fff32e3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/fbf406089300d0e5749b7a9c45bd1377.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/e943a580171090d347297982fbbd3ec6.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/9698ef6c9dd150f433486bfe75e4c83e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/bd16f5612658a2a82dbcb5e9f0bdd7a9.jpg)

I’d recommend removing more of the return edge, gradually, on the shoulders on both the chest and back.   Then use heat (gun or water) to ease the bend on the back shoulders.

Looking good...it's really coming together!  I'm curious to see what the vets say.  I'm going to get to this part soon, while I wait for cover strips to cure.

So more dry fitting and taped the shoulder and chest. I'm not sure why the chest feels like it rides so high and will definitely need to trim some of the neck on the right side and absolutely need to trim the left shoulder tab. Seriously digs. Also not sure how to close up the ab-kidney gap. I tried it with the belt on, but it didn't seem to help and I had it so the velcro was barely connected.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/68587b586fe28b616dc04842251413c0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/b534bddd9d67a30479a7569536db7c11.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/ba3b59934a374d95b7d9e7c79b7617af.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/659eac2a55800bf68004b5984951f3ea.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/54aff13fca00c683e93a84a5e646b7ec.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/c45ca7522d01f08270e2b3508e9337db.jpg)

So I thought I would take a crack at repainting the frown and how do you get this stuff off? Tried 70% alcohol and mineral spirits and not even a dent, but I'm guessing it's very clean.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180401/b1bb201beb94548b0be28fc3be97232d.jpg)

I just used isopropyl alcohol and some q-tips. I don't remember the concentration I used though! It came off super easy for me so unless they changed whatever they used on the frown, I'd maybe try a slightly higher concentration? I might have done 80% or something. As always, try it on scrap first!

Yeah I have the v2 bucket so they may have changed something. I did test prior and yeah neither of those worked, but I know it's really clean so I'm just going to paint over it.

So I'm having a bit of a dilemma on my right leg. My thigh isn't setting flush to glue the rear cover strip. I tried to heat it and reshape it enough and that didn't help and I tried to clamp and magnet it together with a strip of steel with no luck either. After the clamping and magnets i still end up with about 2-3mm between the strip and the armor. Any other ideas?

The other is my shin, it fits well enough but it is overlapping top to bottom. I could trim some, but I know that the ankle can't lose anything. Not sure if I want to attempt reshaping or not.

I get some pictures when I get back inside.

Still working out the best way to permanently mount my lenses but for now the "tape" that was holding the frown Mrs is working.
So I got the heat gun out and did some reshaping of the back shoulder straps? Wings? You folks know what I'm talking about. The fit is better and they don't bite as much now. However the chest still feels like it is riding high and the seems to be a lot of left over space in the chest. Also got the right shin retrimmed and cover strip is gluing now. I also got the thigh ammo pack drilled and soft mounted it's a bit late for the hammering to finish it off tonight.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180413/c937fe264205626b4876d67269e37efc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180413/dba855ad27bd7c7a2bc82a25ef86d31a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180413/e166a9590d3380b1729ab479af11c34b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180413/679657095873a355e34b61c6f522af05.jpg)

Looking really good.

One suggestion...  your belt looks like it’s sagging in the front. To raise the front I’d recommend either lowering the belt in the back, or adding Velcro under the front to raise and keep the front higher.

If that doesn’t work you might have to reposition your ab snaps.

So after making it over to the armor party yesterday and speaking with Chris and Luke, thanks for the help on this, I am going to have to trim down my thighs. The tops touch my hips and the bottoms set just about the middle of my kneecaps. I've also decided that I am going to trim out the back return edge to gain a little more range of motion.

Been procrastinating on trimming my thighs down, but been working on that not so great looking blaster and spare bits Chris gave me, again very grateful for the generosity there. Getting a bit here and there done gonna be doing some scratch built replacements I can see. Just ordered a hengstler counter for it since it was the one part I needed but didn't have. I also just now put in an order for some silicone hand guards for when I finish my build and go for centurion. Slow and steady, slow and steady.
